Since they ain't pushing an album, I think we might get an even better set then last time.  Which could really be something.

Now, are these the T Rex wannabes, or is that the "supersomethingelse" band?

No these are more like T.Rex than the super furry animals.

I think you're confusing me with Rhett, who also thinks every shite band (aka bands he likes) are alt-country.

Actually, it's was someone else who told me they sounded like T Rex so I should give them a listen. I'm dying to go to a show so now scraping the barrel for ANYTHING that might work.

Try the Dandy Warhols. You would need an open mind to like them, but they are pretty good.

Supergrass normally put on a good show too. You must know most of their singles?

 there is always the pistols.......

I'm not sure I'm getting the Dandy Warhols love on the boards.  I listened to snippets of earlier songs from their website; they seem pretty quirky.  Obviously I'm missing something?

listen to bohemian like you and godless from 13 tales from urban bohemia. Then try the new album, welcome to the monkey house. The new album takes a while to get its hooks into you.

Come on, one last fandango. You will enjoy it at the time, but afterward you will get all bitter and realise why you had stayed away for so long before.

Dandy Warhols are the Duran Duran of the 2000's. Dumb, vapid lyrics, very catchy singles, and lots of fluffy album filler. I don't think the singer is nearly as cute as Simon, but the keyboard player gives Nick a run for the money in terms of femininity quotient.

I used to have one too,
Maybe you'll come and have a look.
 I really love your hairdo,yeah,
I'm glad you like my do,
See we're looking pretty cool, getcha.

 So what do you do?
Oh yeah i wait tables too.
No i haven't heard your band,
Cause you guys are pretty new.
But if you dig on vegan food,
Well come over to my work,
I'll have them cook you something that you'll really love,

 Cause i like you,
 Yeah, i like you,
And i'm feelin so bohemian like you,
 Yeah, i like you,
 Yeah, i like you,

 Wohoo hoo hoo x4

 Wait,
 Who's that guy,
 Just hanging at your pad.
 He's looking kinda blah,
Yeah, you broke up that's too bad.
I guess its fair if he always pays the rent,
And he doesn't get bent about sleeping on the couch when i'm there,

 Cause i like you,
 Yeah i like you,
And i'm feeling so bohemian like you.
 Yeah i like you,

 I'm getting wise,
And i'm feeling so bohemian like you,
It's you that i want so please,
Just a causal, casual easy thing.
It isn't? it is for me.
 And i like you,
 Yeah i like you,

The Reflex

 (words and Music Duran Duran)

You gone too far this time

But I'm dancing on the valentine

 I tell you somebody's fooling around -

With my chances on the dangerline

I'll cross that bridge when I find it

Another day to make my stand, oh..

High time is no time for deciding

If I should find a helping hand, oh..

So why don't you use it

 Try not to bruse it

 Buy time don't lose it

 (chorus)

The reflex is an only child, he's waiting in the park

The reflex is in charge of finding treasure in the dark

And watching over lucky clover isn't that bizarre

Every little thing the reflex does leaves you answered with a

 question mark

I'm on a ride and I want to get off

But they won't slow down the roundabout

I sold the renoir and the TV set

Don't want to be around when this gets out

 (chorus) (chorus)

The reflex is an only child, he's waiting by the park

The reflex is in charge of finding treasure in the dark

And watching over lucky clover isn't that bizarre

Every little thing the reflex does is an answer with a

 question mark

 (chorus) (chorus)

The reflex is an only child, he's waiting by the park

The reflex is in charge of finding treasure in the dark

And watching over lucky clover isn't that bizarre

Every little thing the reflex does leaves me answered with a

 question mark

Oh, the reflex what a game he's hiding all the cards

The reflex is in charge of finding treasure in the dark

And watching over lucky clover isn't that bizarre

Every little thing the reflex does leaves you answered with a

 question mark

Are you trying to shoot down your own point?

the Dandys song is a scathing attack on hipsters and the music scene. The Dura Duran song is a collection of phrases with no apparent meaning that only occassionally rhyme. It is nonsense.

a song that is about hipsters and the music scene seems like a pretty vapid topic to me, even if it is skewering it. My point was BOTH are vapid.

No Rhett, you're right.

 This is so much better:

This is what I do this is what I do
Jennifer 1 was a racehorse-rider Heidi was a house on fire
Bernadette kept a distance we got tangled up in telephone wire
I'm gonna sing this song forever about a girl that I once knew
And how she is always leaving this is what I do
This is what I do for a living this is what I do
In another life I was a holy roller in another lifetime I flew
I have always kept a distance this is what I do
This is what I do for a living this is what I do
This is what I do this is what I do
Every one of us has a secret rhythm beating like a drum
All of us have a albatross and this is my one
This is what I do for a living this is what I do
I could hide it in the attic I could bury it in static
I could only put it out in Japan
I could tape my mouth closed I could take another dose
I am dancing as fast as I can
This is what I do for a living this is what I do
This is what I do this is what I do

Now this...is a wordsmith at work...NOT!

 I need a camera
 To my eye
 To my eye reminding
 Which lies I been hiding
 ?
 Iâ??ve counted out
 Just to see how far
 Iâ??ve driven in the dark
 It echoes in my heart
 For my family
Tell â??em Iâ??m lost on the sidewalk
 And, no, itâ??s not okay
 I smashed a camera
 I want to know why
 To my eye
Deciding which lies that I been hiding
 Which _ _ belong
 Iâ??m counting on
 My _ _
To walk me through this war
 Whenever wounds get stored
 For my family
Tell â??em Iâ??m lost on the sidewalk
 And, no, itâ??s not okay
 Iâ??m counted out
But no one knows how far
 Iâ??ve driven in the dark
 It echoes in my heart
 For my family
 Tell â??em Iâ??m lost, yeah, Iâ??m lost
 And, no, itâ??s not okay
 And, no, itâ??s not okay
 And, no, itâ??s not okay

One of the greatest...seriously.

 Old Red eyes is back
Red from the night before the night before
Walked into the wrong bar walked into a door

 Old Red's in town
And sitting late at night he doesn't make a sound
Just adding to the wrinkles on his deathly frown

They're only red from all the tears that I should've shed
They're only red from all the women that I could've wed
So when you look into these eyes I hope you realise
 They could never be blue
 They could never be blue
 They could never be blue
 They could never be blue

 Listen up Old Red
You never listened to a word the doctor said
He told you if you drank another you'd be dead

 Old Red Eyes is back
His shoulders ache all over and his brain is sore
He pours a drink and listens to his body thaw

They're only red from all the thoughts unused inside my head
They're only red from all the things I could have done instead
So when you look into these eyes I hope you realise
 They could never be blue
 They could never be blue
 They could never be blue
 They could never be blue

Blue is a street without an end
Red is the colour of my hell
Blue is a greeting from a friend
Red is the colour of farewell

 Old Red he died
And every single landlord in the district cried
An empty bottle of whisky laying by his side
A lazy little tear running from each eye
 They could never be blue
 They could never be blue
 They could never be blue
 They could never be blue

The Instigator was a subpar album for Rhett. That's what you do. You put your crap songs on your solo album and save your good stuff for the band.

...this is up there too!

 Line One is the time
That you, you first stayed over at mine
And we drank our first bottle of wine
 And we cried

 Line Two we're away
And we both, we both had nowhere to stay
 Well the bus-shelter's always OK
 When you're young

Now you're older and I look at your face
Every wrinkle is so easy to place
And I only write them down just in case
 That you die

Let's take a look at these crows feet, just look
 Sitting on the prettiest eyes
 Sixty 25th of Decembers
 Fifty-nine 4th of Julys
Not through the age or the failure, children
Not through the hate or despise
Take a good look at these crows feet
 Sitting on the prettiest eyes

 Line Three I forget
But I think, I think it was our first ever bet
And the horse we backed was short of a leg
 Never mind

 Line Four in a park
And the things, the things that people do in the dark
I could hear the faintest beat of your heart
 Then we did

Now you're older and I look at your face
Every wrinkle is so easy to place
And I only write them down just in case
 You should die

Lets take a look at these crows feet, just look
 Sitting on the prettiest eyes
 Sixty 25th of Decembers
 Fifty-nine 4th of Julys
You can't have too many good times, children
You can't have too many lines
Take a good look at these crows feet
 Sitting on the prettiest eyes

Well my eyes look like a map of the town
And my teeth are either yellow or they're brown
But you'll never hear the crack of a frown
 When you are here
 You'll never hear the crack
 Of a frown

And these have to be amongst the cleverest lyrics ever, as only the Moz can do. (Is "cleverest" even a word?)

Here is London, giddy of London
Is it home of the free -
 Or what ?

 Can you squeeze me
Into an empty page of your diary
 And psychologically save me
 I've got faith in you
 I sense the power
 Within the fingers
 Within an hour the power
 Could totally destroy me
(Or, it could save my life)

 Oh, here is London
"Home of the brash, outrageous and free"
 You are repressed
 But you're remarkably dressed
 Is it Real ?
 And you're always busy

 Really busy
 Busy, busy
 Oh, hairdresser on fire
 All around Sloane Square
 And you're just so busy
 Busy, busy
 Busy scissors
 Oh, hairdresser on fire
 (Only the other day)

 Was a client, over-cautious
 He made you nervous
 And when he said
 "I'm gonna sue you"
Oh, I really felt for you ...mmm...

 So can you squeeze me
 Into an empty page of your diary;
 And supernaturally change me ?
 Change me, change
 Oh, here in London
"Home of the brash, outrageous and free"
 You are repressed
 But you're remarkably dressed
 Is it Real ?
 And you're always busy

 Really busy
 Busy clippers
 Oh, hairdresser on fire
 All around Sloane Square

 And you're just too busy
 To see me
 Busy clippers
 Oh, hairdresser on fire
 (Only the other day)

Markie, this is how's it's done:

Mankie, come to see the Dandy Warhols show. They are pretty good. You need to hear the music with the lyrics, so don't go by the words alone. Besides, Zia, the keyboard player (a woman) often plays topless.    :D

Mankie, go to The Dandy Warhols (http://www.dandywarhols.com/sounds.htm) site and listen to some of their songs. Make sure you at least listen to You Were The Last High, Bohemian Like You and Godlesss. They are my favorites.

Actually, this just popped up on my Real Player alert. (The fuckers must be monitoring my computer!) You can listen to the entire new album here (http://smilparse.real.com/showcase/cliplists/listenparty/0308/dandywarhols.ram?rpurl=http://dandywarhols.com/index2.htm).
