We are heading to Costa Rica for a week at the end of the month...Anyone been?  Any suggestions if you have?

Personal opinion, Panama is better. Maybe it doesn't have the nice volcanoes you can see around San Jose, but still it has pretty much everything Costa Rica has, but much less tourist-developed.

Costa Rica is a beautiful country.  People are friendly and coffee, bought at the right places is delicious.  Is indeed more developed than other Central American countries.  Depends on where you are going.  Pacific Coast is gorgeous- Samara down to Montezuma- beautiful, not very crowded beaches.  Manuel Antonio area is very nice if a little too touristy.  The National Park there is worth going to if you enjoy a nice hike- but perhaps a little overrated.  Traveling on some roads can be rough as many of the routes are not really roads but dirt and stone highways- I would recommend a renting a small 4 wheel drive vehicle if your planning on doing that- they rent out models that are still very fuel efficient.  The upside is you get to see more remote, less traveled areas.  Overall, very safe country as well.  Disfruta!

Worst roads on the planet.  If you decide to drive, get as much insurance as you can as they drive horribly there on roads that are more pot-holes than highway.

Otherwise beautiful country, great beaches, great food, and cheap.  Where are you going?  Here is a Burger King in Tamarido

...Lotsa gringos too.  You can't swing a cat without hitting a yanqui turista!

You mean that guy leaving Burger King isn't a local?

We are flying into Liberia and staying in Playa Conchal

Whatever you do, don't eat at the San Isidro Taco Bell.  We picked up a nasty case of Guinea worm there!

Cool we were down by Playa Flamingo when we were there in January.  Close to Conchal, bit north.  Staying at that big fancy resort, I assume?  It was kind of weird as it is very insulated from the country, unless you go to the beach where you have to run the gauntlet of locals selling crap.

Just up the way is a great little town where you can get the local flavor.  You can walk up the beach to it, Brasalito is the name.  Here is the local supermarket there:

 Some good restaurants there too.

Yeah, we are staying at the resort, mainly for the good deal we found on it.

I have read about Brasalito and have a list of some restaurants to try there.  Thanks!

Liberia's airport is quite an introduction to the country.  The ceiling fans before customs are amazing.  Are you renting a car or taking the bus?
