and she is probably the cutest thing ever. She is a cream colored Standard Poodle (please, hold all criticisms and nasty comments about poodles, we've had many in my family and they aren't those prissy show dogs some people make them out to be) and seems to enjoy getting into shit. We haven't had a puppy in over 13 years, so we're trying to remember all of the things we did with our last dog. Any puppy advice?

my grandad once had a little Mutt dog that hated poodles. His next door neighbour got a poodle and the first time they met walking their dogs, my grandads dog cocked its leg and pissed on the poodle.
When my grandad told me that story he had the biggest grin on his face I have ever seen . I love my grandad.

I grew up with a black standard poodle named Webster. Best dog ever.

Standard Poodles are dogs, the little sub-micro ones are vermin. Just don't get the foofy 'do for the dog.
Puppy needs? First lots to chew on that is not valuable. Not anything that resembles things you want to keep nice (e.g. no old shoes, rags, etc.) as a puppy can not tell the difference. A good supply of that urine smell remover so that they don't get conditioned to pee in the same spot as their last accident.
My parents (I don't own a dog just dog sit) got over the puppy thing by getting retired show dogs. Their current dog Sully is great, doesn't bark, past the puppy wildness and already housebroken and trained. That and he is a weird dog.

Thank You! Someone who realizes that huge giant Standards are awesome dogs. We were trying to decide on a name for months (our last Poodle, Zoe had to be put to sleep and we've been trying to get another one ever since :( ) and I just thought the name Perrie was cute. So therefore, after going over what seemed like hundreds of "perfect" names for her, Perrie stuck.
The chewing is definitely an issue, haha. It's been so long since we've had puppies that we forgot how much they love to chew. But god, is she adorable!!!!
Maybe I'll have to post some pictures up here of her when I load them on my computer :D

No matter what size poodle it is, they are still the gayest dogs ever....even other dogs take the piss out of them! I'm sure you love it to bits though, and that's all that matters.

awwww puppies are cute. but I hate big dogs they're scary :(
we used to have a beagle and a lab, but now we just have two yorkshire terriers, who are like eternal baby puppies...but when we did have big dogs, to teach them not to jump up on furniture or not to jump up whereever (if this is an issue for you) you can set up mouse traps where you don't want them to go. it won't hurt them, but it makes a sound and scares them, they'll learn.
also a raw egg once a day makes their coat purdy :D and every dog we've had loves those nasty pig ears...anything that looks disgusting dogs will most likely like hehe

One of my dogs is half poodle and half jack russell terrier. She is the shit. An 18 pound badass. Really the coolest dog ever...
I'd reccomend crate training the dog. Makes it much easier to house-break the dog, and plus they really dig having a little den of their own.

I heard he has a little bit of leghound in him also. one beer and he is trying to hump anything that moves.

No they're not..that's Border Collies. Poodles are the best interior designers for their kennels though, and they are the trendiest when it comes to those little winter coats you can buy.

I have heard that there are some pretty vicious poodles out there, overbreeding has made some a bit "mad". Still if properly groomed, they look pretty cool.
And at least they are not toy dogs.
I guess I can't talk though as our dog is a Whippet, and as bad as the one from Frasier.

We are doing that :) with our last dog, she hated the crate, which was harder on us. However, with this one we are making it nice and cozy.
Something that I thought was great was that during that huge terrible storm last night -- she didn't even flinch!! Not once did she freak out. She's quite a mellow dog.
Rather than let her have those gross pigs ears (they smell and can make the dogs sick) we found those little nylon bones quite helpful. Damn this dog loves to chew!
And Jag you're right -- Poodles are one of the smartest breeds. Although I do question if people confuse "easily trained" with "very very intelligent." Either way, poodles are great :D
