Anyone making the trip up to Balmer on Wednesday? Bags, you still in?
-
me. i probably have an extra ticket if anyone needs....
-
I'll be there..
-
A cute lady gave me a freebie so I'm all over it, especially considering the "trip" is only 1/2 mile from my house.
-
i'll be in norfolk tuesday, but i just can't make the trip up to baltimore the next night for a show.. or at least that's what i decided. we're headed up to philly wednesday so we can catch the tut exhibit before it's done (this upcoming week is the final week). i'd like to do more, but the extra 30-45 minutes (or more depending on traffic) to get to baltimore for a show, is only worth it for a few bands for me. if there'd been another 930 show this tour, i likely would have gone to the show.

you live at the Aquarium?
i'll be there, of course.

Yup, I'm going. We're wondering best way to get there. I've got four, and am thinking of the best way to designate a driver. One person has suggested taking the train out and cabbing back. ??
-
I'll be there with the huge grin on my face. I've been waiting to see them since they opened for NIN back in 05.
Oh god.
-
I can't wait. i have been looking forward to seeing them all summer!!!!

There's a rumor floating about the Queens forum asking "Has anyone heard about the acoustic performance sometime before the Baltimore show?"
930 board members away!

To be fair no setlist is EXACTLY the same since they've been touring this year. They write the setlist every night, they've been playing Do It Again a lot and lately they've been throwing in the bonus track Era Vulgaris in and doing an original Nick song "Millionaire", If they played You Can't QUit Me, Baby I would flip my shit.

They soundchecked "You've Got a Killer Scene, Man" in Oklahoma at my shows. And Josh played the first half of "The Sky is Falling" in Tulsa as a fan request in the encore.
-
Are you competing with bnyced? I think you are #1 at this point since you are doing/you've done 4 tours (Tori, QOTSA, Bjork, and Daft Punk). Did I miss anything? #2 is bnyced, and #3 is TheDirector.

Oh, bnyced wins! He's like the king of it. Plus I'm flaking on Bjork tonight, so he gets the heads up.

Yeh, you definitely go to the bottom of the list for tonight

my dream list would make them play for right around 2 1/2 hours.

On the plus side, there were no debuts and I've seen every song she played last night at least twice! I consider it 89 bucks saved and a train ride I don't have to take!
-
Okay folks, doors are at 7:00 and there are two openers. Any good guesses as to set times? [I was thinking QOTSA on about 10:00, but if the first band goes on early, like 7:30, it could be more like 9:30...] I've no idea how well Rams Head Live runs a schedule...
-
My guess is that they're going on somewhere around 9:15 to 9:45, somewhere in there. If I can get out of work at a decent hour, I am going to thank the concert gods for this one. This is the show I've been waiting for all summer.

Oh, but you're wrong...when did you see her perform Oceania, besides on TV from Athens?

They'll play an hour and a half solid, but if doors are at 7:30 i doubt they won't get on stage til past 10, but they're going about 17-20 songs a night.

Radio City - 5/2
United Palace - 5/5
Apollo Theater - 5/8
Auditorium Theater - 5/12
Red Rocks - 5/15
Shoreline Amphitheater - 5/19
That'd be six times, sir.

ok, i guess this is my question to answer
doors at 7pm, means opener goes on at 8pm.
so figure
8pm first band
9pm second band
10-10:30pm QOTSA
there is almost always always 60 minutes from doors to first band.
no way Queens goes on before 10.
(i am trying to get Rams Head to post set times on their site, people are constantly bitching about missing the band they came to see....though, those ppl probably dont check the website either!)

I'd agree with you, but Bombay Chutney said he went to a show recently with doors at 7:00 and one opener, and the headliner was on by 8:15. I'm getting to RHL by 8:30...better safe than sorry when traveling all that way...

True story. It seems a little off to be the norm, but I wouldn't risk getting there too late. My guess is that the opener bailed that night. By 8:15 the headliner was on the second song. That's enough to make me get there earlier next time.
-
I want to say that when I saw Social D in July that the openers were on by 7:30 or so, second band on by about 8:15 or 8:30, and headliners on by 9:30 or 9:45. I was pretty tipsy, but I do remember that by about 11pm the show was done.
-
actually i'm going to bail on the show.
fuck driving a minimum of 2 hours to see anything.
i need out of this shithole.

nope. i did however spend a good portion of monday night at ram's head telling people that i don't work there. i guess that's what i get for standing by a roped off stairway.
and i don't think mine technically counts as a goatee, since i have a full beard most of the time.

Aaaah, I will definitely say hi! It's been ages...
-
I'll be there motherfuckers!
-
I'll be there in my Iggy and the Stooges "Fun House" shirt. Feel free to say hi!
Here's hoping that they play "Better Living Through Chemistry", "Go With the Flow" and "You Can't Quit Me Baby". SO stoked for this show, good for Queens for selling it out.
-
i've had ZERO luck convincing anyone to go with me. that said, i've got an extra. PM if interested.
-
I'll be having lunch at Liquid Earth around 3:30ish / checking out Sound Garden afterward..

We're ALL going with you, in fact I can guarantee ...you won't be there alone and you should PM Smackie so he can take that ticket and come up... 10pm is plenty of time for him to get out of those dorky duds and maybe he could hitch a ride with the Director as I'm having an inside tailgate prior to the show...
-
I'm just wearing a plain black Tee with jeans, but will wear my 9:30 Club button -- say hi, I do answer to Bags (though Nancy tends to work the best!)....

Listening to "Tangled Up in Plaid" right now. What can I say, I'm a geek and I admit it. I need SOMETHING to look forward to. This week sux.
Anyone know anything about the openers?

not a geek, but same day show listening is bad luck, hope your kharma is otherwise strong but don't tempt fate further by wearing QOTSA gear tonight...
-
Oh yeah, that's right...I don't want to piss off Josh. I still love his rant during "Go With the Flow" last time at the 9:30.
"I WILL FUCK YOU IN THE ASS, YOU BITCH!"
Classic.

The setlist from the Norva last night:
Medication
sick sick sick
if only
do it again
3's and 7's
I think I lost my Headache
into the fade
misfit love
into the hollow
burn the witch
run pig run
little sister
battery acid
make it with you
turning on the screw
song for the deaf
song for the dead
encore
no one knows
I hate when they end it on No One Knows, but undoubtebly they did a ridiculous 10 minute version. I wonder if they'll play In The Fade tonight... As for the openers they both have Myspaces.
-
I also have an extra so let me know if you need one.
-
I need "Suture Up Your Future" like it is NOBODY'S BUSINESS tonight.

Song for the Dead
Bags, sorry I missed you! I was right in front of the the soundboard, and I had this railing thing to the side that I could sit on and stand on. I didn't want to be too obnoxious, but it did give me a great view, plus the sound was superb. Met Hutch after the show and complimented him on how great it was. He said that he would love to have the band come back to the 9:30 again soon. Seth...pretty please with sugar on top? Maybe in the new year since they seem pretty booked up?
Hope everyone had as great a time as I had. It definitely beat the last 9:30 show to a bloody pulp. I am ridiculously giddy right now.
-
that was a fanTAStic show.
Queens was definitely running low on my radar til now. Their live show blows the CDs out of the water.
got to meet bnyced0 and the director too, which, of course, made my night! :)
i am off to bed....

Sonick was an ace host though his set time predictions were a little off. The show sounded fantastic, which is the point, but I had to get my visuals off a plasma TV because the Rams Head sold out curse raised its' ugly head and we couldn't find a sight line worth a shit, and I kinda refuse to go back circa 1983 when you lined up for shows 8 hours before the doors open to get a good standing place, mostly because in 1983 I didn't drink (alcohol) so there wasn't the nasty need to have to go to the loo on a regular basis. Anyway, shame on anyone who didn't come out for the show, Jenny Lewis is looker, but few can phuck with Queens when their on their game...and, they were on their game..."true story...."
-
Oh my fucking god.
Oh my fucking god.
That was undboubtebly one of the best live shows Ive ever fucking seen. They came out adn played MILLIONFUCKINGAIRE! From the get go i was fucking ecstatic, THEN they played In The Fade, THEN the fun machine took a shit and died!
AND THEN THIS:
"Sorry, we had to snort a huge line of cocaine. No other bands party! They're all a bucnh of pussies!"
I wish they would have played 1 more song for the encore but the setlist was motherfucking solid gold. Its hard to say nothing would have made it better but it was damn near unstoppable.
Here's the petition yall:
Seth pleeeaseeee bring Queens and their chandaliers to 930! PLEASE SETH! SEEING THEM TWICE WITHIN A YEAR WOULD MAKE EVERYTHING WORTH TYPING IN CAPITAL LETTERS.
Im so fucking excited I can't sleep.
I wanna make it with everyone right fucking now.

Ummm YES. YES YES YES YES YES.
I had like 10 moments of "Oh my god is this really happening" last night, and "I Think I Lost My Headache" was definitely a highlight for me.
I'm all at Philly though. I need "I'm Designer", "Suture Up Your Future", and "Go With the Flow".
Oh, and did anyone else think the beginning of Into the Hollow sounded like Long Slow Goodbye last night? It had a TOTALLY different intro than when I'd heard it in August.

I actually thought that "Into the Hollow" was "Tangled Up in Plaid" at first. I'm having a tremendously hard time focusing this morning because this show was really THAT good. Did anyone else think it was tremendously cool how everyone kept punching the air during the "HEY!"s of "Do It Again"? I loved Josh's classic line during "Feel Good" of "everybody knows you dance like you fuck". "In the Fade" truly made my night. I could have left after that and been perfectly happy, but "I Think I Lost My Headache" sealed the deal. The funny thing was I had such a stressful day at work and really wasn't even that focused on the show until about 15 minutes before they went on. Guess the 2 double vodka sodas I had helped a little too!
-
to be honest, i wasn't sure what i was getting myself into last night cause i'm only vaguely familiar w/ the music (although i've been listening to the new album quite a bit). and i was even contemplating staying home. damn glad i didn't! they definitely bring something that isn't captured in the studio.

i got there around 9, and the floor was basically packed. i found an okay spot (i.e. i could see) at the bottom of the stairs, but i wasn't looking forward to posting up at a major intersection. from what i could tell, there weren't many people upstairs. little did i realize, that single line of people along the railing made it impossible for my 5'5" ass to see the stage at all. luckily, though, i finally settled upstairs near the railing above the sound board. within the first few songs, there were enough gaps between the people in front of me that i got to see the show! i left a very happy girl :D

AN AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGGG show. Nothing this year could top Iggy and the Stooges at the 930, but this show would probably have to be number 2 as far as best live performance I have seen in 2007.
-
Thunderous show last night...!

Oh, I feel for you. I was one of the folks trying to get by you to go upstairs for a drink and a pee. It was TOUGH getting back.
I ended up having a FANTASTIC spot sight-wise (though the sound was a tad muddled). Bearman, I was near you -- we were over in front of the other Exit door behind the soundboard, on the handicapped ramp which was not jam packed, and was on a rise so we could see over everyone in front of us. Room to dance, a rail for leaning, great sight lines. And you don't even want to know when we got there -- just minutes before the band went on. I'd never been to RHL before so we scoped the whole place out first. Rule of thumb -- go to the side away from the entrance! [At 9:30, that's over by Food Food.]
The upstairs was not full at all, but TERRIBLE for seeing. I'm 5' 9", and couldn't see a thing with only one line of folks at the rail. Another thing 9:30 really got right -- the 'steps' on the second level.
Loved the show, they are SO good. Wish I had the gumption for Philly, but too much is going on generally and I need some rest.
Josh Homme should be on my Rock n' Roll husband list, but I think I'm not tough enough. ;)
Sonick, missed you probably because we came in directly from the parking lot. In the hubbub, I forgot to go look for you. Glad to know you enjoyed the show so much!
Bearman, as long as you were in bliss, it's all good. See you at the next one!

Queens was definitely running low on my radar til now. Their live show blows the CDs out of the water.
got to meet bnyced0 and the director too, which, of course, made my night! :)
i am off to bed....
Le Sonick was cool as a fan. Great host. It was good to chop it up with you, fam. Good folk right there.
KILLER show. I feel for whoever wasn't there. I had a marvelous time, even with the wack ass sightlines. (I am truly spoiled by 9:30's excellence.) Note to self: I will never be going to Rams Head again for a sold out show. (Until they book someone on the level of Queens, of course.)
Spent time kicking it with my mans & 'em, bnyce. Appreciate you rolling out the red carpet & what not. Good times as always. I'm quite sure we'll be doing it up again sooner than later. How's everything going at work today, "Tommy"???? ;)

paging sweetcell, where is my Philly ticket?
(2nd request)

yeah, i was going to mention that last night. Baltimore is usually good for one thing, smaller crowds. So usually at the good shows, the crowd is smaller, leaving plenty of room for ppl.
Bags had it right, downstairs head behind the soundboard if you cant get right up front, there a bar right there, the exit is near and cause of the slope, you can see just fine.
at least they somewhat make up for their crappy sightlines with their plethera of 42" plasmas.

i had no idea that Dax Riggs was the guy from Deadboy and the elephantmen til they were soundchecking and i was like....WHA???
pleasant surprise, but yeah, ppl did NOT seem to like him at all.
-
Anyone else have a misprint on their tickets? It said "Wednesday, September 26, 2008". I thought that was pretty funny.
-
yeah, that was . . . quite enjoyable. every song great. super fluid yet hard as f*ck. loose but locked in. i stumbled my way over to about exactly where bags was and it was great - clear sightline of josh and joey castillo wailing away. go with the flow would have fit in nicely at the end . . . but no complaints. they delivered for all.
-
Youtube is gay and didn't upload my other videos but I got the opening part of In The Fade:

I'm down for Philly but I spent most of my money on Merch. I love posters dammit.

Some of my favorites were:
"Well...everybody knows...(pause)...living is suicide!"
"This is blood music!"
"Sometimes...I didn't know yet...what I'd know when I was bleeding..."

That first opening band was a PIECE-OF-SHIT!

Beyonce and Director, sorry to miss the pre-party, but thanks for thinking of me.
Heather, thanks for the ticket offer. Maybe enext time.
I was clearly the big time loser on this one!

Pretty nice boobage. There's also boobage in the Sick Sick Sick alternate video, which I think is better than the original. The chick dancing is So0o sexy and she plays the witch in Burn The Witch video.

Maybe the QOTSA can open for High On Fire next time around?
The QOTSA are lightweight rock. True story... :D
-
OMFGQOTSAKSMA!!!
(oh my fuckin gawd queens of the stone age kicked so much ass - very useful acronym, learn it)
concert in philly tonight was off the hook. ixkp-bk, who was at both tonight's show and b'more, couldn't decide which one was better... maybe a few hours on the train will allow him to digest and answer. all i know is that it was wild (mosh pit was big and stupid - ugh), josh is a ridiculous guitarist, and the place was jumping for an hour and a half. "misfit love", "turning on the screw", "song for the dead" and "little sister" (my jaw dropped watching him play that crazy sliding lead without breaking a sweat) were personal highlights, but the whole setlist was stellar. an amazing show from start to end. played a lot of songs that they didn't in b'more - details in the morning. zzz for now.
-
Baltimore's audience was better, Philly had the better setlist, though.
There was a run of songs from like Monsters in the Parasol to You Cant Quit Me Baby that had me shaking more ass than a fat bitch at a Juvenile concert.
Highlight of the night (for me): the medley of Give the Mule What He Wants with Fun Machine Took a Shit and Died.
---
Aside from the show, Philly was NOT ready for the adventures of Sweetcell and Ixkpd-Bk. Word.
(Oh, and I'm so tired I want to die. AND I think I'm game for the NYC/Providence shows. I didn't get Suture tonight, and I'm not quitting 'til I see it again.)
-
Setlist:
Millionaire
Feel Good
3's & 7's
Do It Again
Monsters
Misfit Love
Hollow
Little Sister
You Can't Quit Me
Lost Art
Walkin' on the Sidewalks
In the Fade
Turnin on the Screw
Make It Witchu
Fun Machine (w/ "be the mule that you gotta be" bridge)
Sick Sick Sick
Burn the Witch
Song for the Dead
-
random thoughts/memories:
- josh throwing in "takin' what i'm given 'cause i'm working for a living" at the end of millionaire. afterwards he professed that he loves huey lewis, and made a rather flattering remark about his anatomy. weird.
- can't believe how many ladies were on the floor in flip-flops. talk about asking for it.
- i miss the days when moshing was the domain of mohawk'ed punks, not bare-chested frat boys.

true story. next time people see me in real life be sure to ask me about it, t'was legendary. walking the streets of philly getting high on chinatown yellow drank, bilking ben franklin's ghost outta $20, eating OCD sushi rolls, and a quick visit to the hospital emergency room. any night that ends with ixkpd-bk in a sperm-covered sweatshirt can't be all bad, right?
still buzzing from the show (or is it the yellow drank?)
-
Too much info. Keep it to yourself! :p

Dammit. Dude, make a sign that's say "SUTURE UP YOUR FUTURE" I'm sure Josh will see it, say something about it, and play it.

I know what sweater you're talking about, my stepsister bought it and Im hoping its too big for her adn she gives it to me. I spent my money on a shirt, the poster, and the sticker/button pack. That was a damn fine hoodie though.

....AND Monsters in the Parasol, and Walkin' on the Sidewalks...Philly's set ruled. All it needed was Headache to seal the deal.
And thanks for posting that video, man!

Excellent videos...would have been great to get the whole songs, but it's so cool hear the beginning of "In the Fade". Been listening a lot to the few boots that I have. Great stuff.
-
Going to see QOTSA in Chicago tonight...will give a full report. Here's hoping they play "Go With the Flow".
-
Just announced their UK tour for early 2008.
-
From Pitchfork Guest List w/ QOTSA:
Favorite Music Venue
That's really hard to say. Every once in awhile, after you've been on tour for awhile, the House of Blues will really make you happy because they treat you good, there's good sours, a good sound system, a good stage. We played this place called Ram's Head in Baltimore-- they treated us really good and it was really cool. There's a lot of good venues out there now.

QOTSA loves playing Chicago, but I have to say that the Baltimore show blew away the one the other night. Not that there weren't some damn fine moments. They played a ton of stuff we didn't hear in Baltimore: "You Can't Quit Me Baby", "Run Pig Run", "I Am Designer", "Monsters In the Parasol"...but the audience in Baltimore was 100 times better, the pacing of the setlist was WAY more intense, and the band seemed a little more genuine in their presentation. That being said, "You Can't Quit Me Baby" was one of the best concert moments all year, and it's all really minor in the grand scheme of things. Even when they're not brilliant, they're still great.
