Title: am i a dork?
Post by: walkonby on November 28, 2007, 01:26:00 pm
i know just on that question alone, most would love to just say yes, but let me finish the question first.

 i don't download, i listen to cds.
 i don't multi-play online, i prefer to 1 player.
i don't have a myspace account or blog.
i have not had television for 3 years.
i sometimes enjoy reading magazines over novels.
i think that live shows are becoming to be a pain in the ass.

 now may the insults begin.

i'd say you just seem like your average 20/30 something self righteous dude/chick...

This is the only one I can't fathom.  All of the others I have gone thorugh phases of at least once in my life.

You can watch anything you want by downloading it right after it's aired. But given the fact that you don't download...

But I can easily see a computer taking the place of a TV and doing just as well a job.

self righteous - the belief that one's actions are better than others.

how did you come to such a easy conclusion based on the fact of what i said?  it is what i enjoy.

enjoy - to take pleasure in.

i do apologize for that.  for real.

 for real - the truth.

 douchebag seems more fitting..zing!

things that make you an average "hipster"..or "cooler than thou"...or self righteous...

 being vegan
 not owning tv*
not downloading music (what about the artists maaaaann!!)*

those are the first 3 to come to my mind...so ya..im using the correct words...

bingo.  i don't own a tv either, i watch DVDs on the big computer monitor, and i have yet to stumble across a TV show i can't live without.  i have plenty of exposure to tv (i'm in a hotel again this week, prime time tv bores me completely).  watching sports is the only reason i would want a tv.  then again, catching a game is my impetus for getting out of the house (friends, bar, etc).

also, one can get HDTV over the air.  i need to look into where antennas by my place are located, but i might be getting a HDTV card for my desktop soon.

The only thing that makes you a dork is  asking  whether you're a dork.  Sort of like how asking "Is this gay?" is  totally gay.

i'm sorry, i wasn't being clear.

i don't download music, because i find it difficult compared to buying cds. plus i like stores.

i don't watch television because i was a tv zombie and it sucked my life away.  i still watch dvds.

i'm not even sure what a hipster really is, and i tried being a vegan, but as brian would suggest, i love meat.

but most importantly, i don't think i care anymore.  thanks brian for the gay comment; i knew you would "come" through.

No self-righteous hipster would admit to liking Widespread Panic. Just throwing that out there.

I think I'm more of a dork for flipping between Rachel Ray, the View and Martha Stewart today. Working from home is really rough.

walkonby likes it when people make fun of him.  It's some weird, sadomasochistic humiliation/pain thing.  Similar to liking Widespread Panic.

Since you're a woman, isn't it required by law that you watch Rachel Ray, The View and Martha Stewart?

i think i was mainly looking for arguements to why downloads, online play, television are good, and that i was an idiot for being "behind the times."  sometimes (but mainly most) i never make sense.  cool points are for dorks.

so then by your admission, this is for cool points, thus making you a dork?

i mean, since you asked if you were a dork and if cool points are for dorks...

maybe i should start a thread entitled 'am i a woman?'

i bleed for days each month, but i don't die.
i don't play online, i prefer to cook and bake.
 i don't have a penis.
i have not bought a new pair of shoes in nearly a week.
i sometimes enjoy painting my fingernails over reading.
i think that most of you are becoming a pain in the ass.

 now may the insults begin.

i prefer myself vs. brian.  it's a secret hate, but it's there. the widespread cracks just fuel the flames.

and miss p., i know i'm dork . . . i just wanted to know if you thought i was.  besides, this is the most replies to a retarded thread i've started in awhile, so i'm happy.  and i have more posts than that other person.

I am taking an online Sexual Harrassment training today and the only question I've missed so far was one about a woman talking about her period:

"Whatâ??s wrong?" Arthur asks when he finds Eloise frantically searching the cabinets in their department's common area. "Iâ??m dying here!" Eloise responds. "Killer menstrual cramps and my period is so, so heavy. Do we have any aspirin in here?"

Is Eloiseâ??s statement to Arthur appropriate?

        Yes
        No
 ------------------------

I said yes - it didn't bother me one bit.  But the correct answer was no because:

In determining a reasonable personâ??s perspective on workplace harassment, the law takes into account cultural differences between men and women. A reasonable man is likely to take offense at comments about a female colleague's menstrual period.

What the hell reasonable man are they talking about?

Except for the tv thing we could've been seperated at birth....and I admire you for the tv thing. I wish I could do without tv, but how would I get to see my beloved Man Utd, and I'd really miss the history/discovery/animal/court channels but I'd probably get over them....but not United, I'd have to move back to manc, which means getting divorced, so I'll stick with the telly because I hit the jackpot with my wife..

I've given this a lot of thought. I can see both sides of the argument. On one hand, if my girlfriend or sister told me they were on their period, I wouldn't have a problem with it in the least. I mean, we're all adults, right?

At the same time, putting myself in a workplace situation, I can see why its more awkward. Not that I'm uncomfortable with the particular information disclosed so much as I'd find it unusual that a co-worker would divulge such a thing since, in my experience, my casual female acquaintances don't typically offer up insight into their menstrual cycle.

However, also in my experience, most guys I know are significantly less comfortable with the topic then I am. The window of who they feel comfortable knowing such things about narrows leaving many feeling awkward when random people divulge such info.

I guess what I'm saying is, I have no real problem with it personally, but if I was a female, I wouldn't make such statements at work knowing that someone at some point would be offended/weirded out.

I sometimes wish men got periods too, so we could have a guaranteed sick day (or two) each month, or an excuse to kill your spouse and get away with it if they piss you off.

When you're right, you're right.  Sort of like how I wish I was a smoker so I could take a 15 minute break every hour.

I have a theory on that too - they should allow smoking in the workplace so the non-smokers can go outside for a break every 15 minutes when a smoker sparks up.

That's pretty funny. Noel emphatically loves cigarettes, clothes, and his new bed, but only mentions his daughter at the very end as an afterthought and doesn't mention his girlfriend/wife at all. Class.

At least Liam had the sense to put his mother at #2 and his kids and wife at #3. Of course, his #1 was "me".

And neither of them mentioned each other.
