Title: Burning DVD question
Post by: Bags on December 21, 2004, 10:12:00 pm
Okay, I'm giving someone an iPod and DVDs full of music.  She's on a PC.  Do  I burn the DVDs as MP3s or data?  I've seen some songs lose the information (ie, artist, title, album title) when shared via a DVD.  Is one file version less likely to end up 'blank'?

 Suggestions from the professionals?

Er, is there a difference between "mp3s" and "data" when burning a CD/DVD? I thought the choices were Audio CD (limited to 74/80 min, playable on a regular CD player) and Data (any data, including Mp3 files, Word documents, etc). Sorry if I'm missing something here.

You can burn MP3's as regular audio, and it will occupy the limit of 74/80min on a cd, and play in all cd players.

However, if you burn them as MP3's in the data format, they will go in since they have WAY better compression and you can fit hundreds on there because you have 700mb to work with instead of 80mins. This method though, will only work on compatible cd players [i.e. a in-dash car cd player that supports MP3's as such]

DVD's hold 4.7gb before you even talk about dual layers, so if you just want to transfer songs from your computer to hers, burn them as MP3's [data] you can fit probably a couple thousand on there but just make sure she has a DVD-ROM to read the DVD!

 Hope that helps.

Thanks, everyone!

Markie, your DVD worked, though there were a few albums that only had "Track 1, Track 2" as song titles -- that just seems to happen sometimes.

MP3s it is!  Hell, I'm buring her 5 DVDs, which is about 5 times the capacity of her mini iPod player anyhow...
