Title: Moz gets his markie cred back!!!!!
Post by: Frank Gallagher on April 01, 2006, 03:29:00 am
He now lives in Rome!!!!

In an interview with the Sun newspaper he said, "Mank moved out of the US so what was the point in staying?"

BTW, His new album is probably his best work yet.

The Douglas Copland interview with him in the Gaurdian a week a two back gave the impression that Rome is where Mozzers boyfriend lived.

In the days when you were hopelessly poor I just liked you more.

Oh and you probably missed a thread for you a week or so ago with the best of Elliot in the morning where you were on talking about foreskins.

i find it almost impossible to believe that whyte/boorer, his guitarists, could produce anything close to their Vauxhall '94 peak, let alone a Viva Hate, mozzer's undisputably great first solo outing. they're just too...erm-, pedestrian/rockabilly for where moz needs to go, and i wish he had replaced them 10 yrs. ago.

however, i was impressed by their work on the live dvd "who put the m in manchaster" recently, so i'm going to give them another chance.

 thanks for the recommendation.

I think (hope) they are referring to his solo work...

27 March 2006, Statement from Morrissey:

"We will not include any Canadian dates on our world tour to promote our new album. This is in protest against the barbaric slaughter of over 325,000 baby seals which is now underway.

I fully realise that the absence of any Morrissey concerts in Canada is unlikely to bring the Canadian economy to its knees, but it is our small protest against this horrific slaughter - which is the largest slaughter of marine animal species found anywhere on the planet. The Canadian Prime Minister says the so-called "cull" is economically and environmentally justified, but this is untrue. The seal population has looked after itself for thousand of years without human intervention, and, as the world knows, this slaughter is about one thing only: making money. The Canadian government will stream all of the pelts into the fashion industry and this is the reason why the baby seals are killed with spiked clubs that crush their skulls - any damage to their pelts is avoided. The Canadian Prime Minister also states that the slaughter is necessary because it provides jobs for local communities, but this is an ignorant reason for allowing such barbaric and cruel slaughter of beings that are denied life simply because somebody somewhere might want to wear their skin.

Construction of German gas chambers also provided work for someone - this is not a moral or sound reason for allowing suffering. If you can, please boycott Canadian goods. It WILL make a difference. As things stand, Canada has placed itself alongside China as the cruelest and most self-serving nation."

I just heard the new record and I'm going to have to disagree...I think it's a solid album but it doesn't grab me like You Are the Quarry did.

Yeah I saw this, pretty whacky but what else would you expect from Moz?

What is almost hypocritical is that there are probably hundreds of causes/reasons to boycott playing dates in the US, but he NEEDS the states!

Does anyone really make clothes from seal skin?  I'm not being facetious, I don't know that I've ever seen or heard of a seal skin coat, say.

Wow, tough criticism (again, not being facetious or flip).

Seal skin has been used for years and even became quite popular sometime in the early 70s. But then the activists raised Hell and that trend went away mighty fast. It's a very short, flat fur that is very silky feeling to the touch. Not at all as you would imagine after seeing seals on film or at some zoo.

I can fully understand his concern about the issue but my thinking is that when bands take stands like this, including 3D (Massive Attack), those who have the power to make a difference, couldn't give one shit whatsoever whether or not these bands play in any particular area. So, I regard it as good intentions completely misplaced that ends up isolating or punishing a whole lot of real fans who very often agree with the artists' platforms. If they want to take a stand, there are much better ways. Not playing any given area, unless the shows are sponsored or promoted by said concern, is not of any value to the cause.

What's "whacky" about standing up for your beliefs?

I would boycott Canadian bacon in support, but I already don't eat any type of animal cadaver, and what else has Canada given us, apart from Hockey, and the Eastern European states now dominate that sport!

Okay, let me rephrase that.

What else has Canada given us that matters, apart from Hockey?

I liked the 'Quarry', but it seemed a tad forced to me, (just one dude's opinion), the new one seems more natural. But hey, it just good he is still making records.

I just feel like the new record seems a tad monotonous.  Not as much variety as on Quarry, which I thought was just a fantastic record.

ROTT is on par with YATQ and continues the Moz renaissance. ROTT captures the epic moodiness of Viva Hate and glam pomp of Your Arsenal. "You Have Killed Me" is the single of 2006 so far.

Morrissey warns Oxford lab workers (http://uk.news.launch.yahoo.com/dyna/article.html?a=/30052006/344/morrissey-warns-oxford-lab-workers.html&e=l_news_dm)

Cult singer Morrissey has waded into the controversy over the new Oxford animal research laboratory by warning those working on the site "we'll get you".

The singer used a concert at the city's New Theatre on Thursday night to hit out at the £20 million biomedical research laboratory site currently under construction in South Parks Road.

He branded Oxford "the shame of England" for allowing the laboratory and told fans: "If you agree with vivisection, go and be vivisected upon yourself."

The vegetarian former Smiths frontman and animal-rights activist, who is currently promoting a new album Ringleader Of The Tormentors, has long courted controversy.

In an interview with fanzine True to You earlier this year, he said he supported "the efforts of the Animal Rights Militia in England" and understood "why fur-farmers and so-called laboratory scientists are repaid with violence - it is because they deal in violence themselves and it's the only language they understand".

Animal-rights activists are, he said "usually very intelligent people who are forced to act because the law is shameful or amoral".

Last year, he told NME magazine he had been quizzed by the FBI and Special Branch over his outspoken criticism of the US and British governments.

He has previously branded George Bush and Tony Blair "cruel and morally bankrupt" and said that like Saddam Hussein they were "egotistical dictators".

But he still has some fans, including Tory leader David Cameron, who this week picked This Charming Man by The Smiths as one of his eight Desert Island Discs and said that Morrissey's appearance on Top of the Pops was "an iconic moment for people of my age and generation".

A spokesman for the singer confirmed he had made the comments in his concert last week but declined to say more.

 ------

I didn't know that Moz once sang for The Cult..?

If he's not your cup'o'tea then that's fine...but he's hardly a friggin has been, with his new album flying up the charts in Europe and his concerts selling out in minutes.
