i was watching football and drinking fine beer all day sunday.  great games.  award shows are for highlights the next day.

and speaking of football . . . why do you guys watch it anyway?  most games, especially that packers/giants game, are controlled by paid off refs.  it is so obvious now, not even fun reallly to watch anymore.

i know that i have said this before, but you really need to learn to keep your mouth/keyboard shut sometimes.

do you know anything about joel or nicole that you didn't read online?  i do, and i don't appreciate you making derogatory posts about friends of mine that you know absolutely nothing about.

if you wouldn't say something to someone's face or in front of a friend of that person, keep it to yourself.  you never know who is listening.  internet personas are such bullshit.  grow up.

James Ford is not my real name.

If some random idiot on an internet message board makes fun of one of my friends, i'm ok with it. Regardless of whether it's the truth or not (as long as it's not an accusation of child rape or something horrible like that). Regardless of whether it's one of my celebrity friends or just some regular guy or gal.

Waiting to see what happens here.

Dating back to January of 2008, it looks like Mr. Wallace had a problem with Nicole Ritchie and d-bag from Good Charlotte then.

"Gwen Stefani/rent-boy Gavin Rossdale.  Without Mr. Nirvana cover band, there's no "Hollaback Girl."

Chris Martin/Gwyneth Paltrow.  Coldplay weren't that bad with their first two albums.  But "X/Y?"  They lost it with that one.  And it's all Paltrow's fault.

Damon Albarn/Justin Frischmann.  Faced with Damon's incredible talent, Ms. Frischmann was forced to become a junkie and release f'all for five years.

Axl Rose/Stephanie Seymour.  1992.  "November Rain" video.  2008.  Still waiting for any new music since 1991.

 Future ones?

Pete Wentz/The other Simpson who can't sing AND had a nose job

 Nicole Ritchie/douchebag from Good Charlotte.

 Brian"

i don't think "making fun of" covers your unfounded accusation that he demanded that his wife have an elective surgery.  if you had made a similar accusation about any of my friends, i would have responded similarly.  the person in question is irrelevant.

I'm pretty sure I read that in Us Weekly or People or another one of those silly rags I read while on the exercise bike at the gym. Have you discussed her surgery with your friends in enough detail to confirm that what I said is not true?

And I wasn't making an accusation about your friends. I was making an accusation about celebrities. Which seems to happen often on this message board.

i have not discussed her surgery with either of them at all.  nor have i made any public posts on the internet regarding her motivations or his feelings about anything.  you see, that's not my place.  it's none of my business.  it's also none of yours, whether or not you read about it in some silly rag at the gym.

you did make an accusation about my friends, and you have done it before.  it's not cool.  it's not funny.  i would appreciate it if you didn't do it again in the future.  celebrity is irrelevant.  my status as a moderator is irrelevant.  man to man: you said something that i didn't appreciate, and i told you how i felt about it.  that's all.

and that's my point.  the internet and this forum are not really anonymous.  i know who you are, "james."  if i were the kind of person that responded physically to this kind of thing (i assure you that i am not), i could do it easily (i assure you that i will not).  i just think people should use some more discretion when posting.  i know it goes against what many people think the internet is for, but i stand by it.

stick to the beer posts.  it seems to make you happy.

Dear Josh,

Would you mind creating a comprehensive list of all your friends so we can be sure not to insult any of them?

Also, can you ask your female friends--like Nicole Ritchie--to please not spread misinformation about breastfeeding "killing whatever boobs she had" and thereby possibly infecting the feeble brains of her little fans to think that they shouldn't breastfeed? Priorities, please!

Many thanks,

i've seen shear madness like five times.  one time i was in the front row, and during the break some of the cast were talking to my partner and i, and they all were glowing that people had come all the way from the shenandoah valley to see them.  they smiled at us the rest of the show.  true story.

I too was wondering what an "ex-aunt in law" is.

While I wouldn't call it illegal, I would call it confusing. Certainly there must be a better term? Wouldn't you just say "my ex wife's aunt"?

i've seen shear madness like five times.  one time i was in the front row, and during the break some of the cast were talking to my partner and i, and they all were glowing that people had come all the way from the shenandoah valley to see them.  they smiled at us the rest of the show.  true story.

illegal use of the word partner!

Confession: I took my partner to see Jersey Boys two weeks ago. Decent.

Sure that works too.

I was gifted tix to Sheer Madness once.  Horrible.

I too was wondering what an "ex-aunt in law" is.

Yeah and why?  I refer to my significant other as my "partner" instead of "girlfriend" or "person i am shacking up with". It implies a sense of equality in a relationship.

yes, but i fail to see how calling your s.o. your wife/girlfriend/boyfriend/husband conveys a sense of inequality, as the previous poster seems to imply.

Do any straight people refer to their s.o. as their partner?

I think so, but using "partner" has a gay connotation to most people.

Do any straight people refer to their s.o. as their partner?

Wow.. the thread sure took a dramatic turn.

From fake tits and thinly veiled threats from internet tough guys to shear madness and the proper use of the term "partner."

I'm impressed.

What confuses me is when someone refers to their partner and it's not clear if they are talking about sex, business, friends or all of the above.

In fact, I just saw that very conundrum in some movie where a man had spoken of his partner and the others assumed that he was gay. As it turned out, he was talking about his business partner.

All this confusion...this is why I just use the term "close friend and roomate".

Jim Olmeyer: Hello! We're your neighbors from two doors down and we just wanted to welcome you to the neighborhood!

[hands the Colonel a gift basket]

Jim "JB" Berkely: Everything's from our garden, except for the pasta.

Jim Olmeyer: Yes, it's from Fizzoli's, it's amazingly fresh, you just pop it in water and it's done! I'm Jim Olmeyer.

[shakes the Colonel's hand]

Jim Olmeyer: And this is my partner Jim.

Jim "JB" Berkely: Jim Berkely, but people call me J.B.

[extends his hand to shake]

Colonel Frank Fitts: Ah, let's just cut to it, what are you selling?

Jim Olmeyer: Nothing, we just wanted to welcome you to the neighborhood.

Colonel Frank Fitts: You said you're partners, so, uh what's your business?

Jim Olmeyer: Well, he's a tax attorney.

Jim "JB" Berkely: And he's an anesthesiologist.

Honestly can't remember but I think it may have been mentioned in a restaurant, or maybe an upscale bar. Or, maybe that's where it was clarified.

All I really remember is that it was some sort of crappy movie but can't remember anything else about it.

What really made me think about it a little more than usual is that the confusion of this word has become a minor pet peeve of mine of late. It was just brought to the forefront a bit more by seeing it in this movie and I wondered about which kind of partner right from the very beginning of it being mentioned.

Ah.

It does go to show that it's enough of an issue for it to be used by others.

I was wondering what that was from. It's been years since I've seen the film and remember very little about it and definitely did not make the connection here.

Do any straight people refer to their s.o. as their partner?

I've told this story before, but I once had a job interview with a gay man, and the interview was going swimmingly for a good half hour until I mentioned that I moved out here to San Francisco with my girlfriend and the interview came to a screeching halt.

From that point on I referred to my girlfriend as my partner in every interview I had.

I had an interview yesterday and I referred to her as my "then partner."

For all you partners out there...

Neil Patrick Harris has revealed that he can't wait to marry partner David Burtka as he wants to call him his "husband'.
The 'How I Met Your Mother' star has been engaged to the chef for over five years.
"I'm not the biggest fan of the word 'partner'. It either means that we run a business together or we're cowboys," Contactmusic quoted him as telling Out magazine.

"'Boyfriend' seems fleeting, like maybe we met two weeks ago. I've been saying 'better half' for as long as I've been able to. I think it's a little self-deprecating and clearly defines that we're in a relationship, but it would be nice to say 'my husband,'" he said.

I decided to dredge this thread up because it was so much fun being put in my place by Thatguy for picking on his friends Nicole and Joel. Plenty of other Hall of Fame material here too.

But anyway, this is probably an unpopular take, but the Golden Globes are the best awards show.

Why?

1. They honor both film and tv, all in one show.
2. They have no musical performances (which are usually bad at the Grammys and always bad at the Oscars.)
3. The dispense with boring awards like hair and makeup.
4. It's the only awards show with an open bar.
5. Poor Things beat Barbie for best musical/comedy.

I used to not like that they split the movie awards into musical/comedy and drama categories, but I don't mind it now.
They created an award for best standup special. Nice idea, but Ricky Gervais' special sucked and should not have won.
They created an award for most popular movie. How does anything other then the biggest box office movie win, so how is it any kind of surprise? Isn't the zilliondollars the movie made reqard enough?
Jo Koy sjould be selling tires over at Firestone, not hosting an awards show.

I can’t believe anyone watches that abomination! It’s the most absolutely meaningless awards show ever.

Some people just like crap….that’s the only thing I can conclude

What’s next, the People’s Choice Awards?

I mean what is the point of winning an award nobody wants?

They created an award for the most popular movie so they didn't have to give it every single other award too. Its almost gonna be like if you have the biggest box office, that's what you get. The other more interesting movies can now win awards based on merit or whatever.
