This is pretty cool.  Can I get retroactive credit for thousands of dollars in bar tabs over the last 13 years?

Can I get credit for proposing what ended being called the 9:30 Fan Club, many years ago?

Very cool. I was wondering what this was last month. http://forum.930.com/index.php?topic=23114.0

I'm 437.

It looks like it's 10 points for buying tickets to a show, 25 points for attending, and the same points for gift card money spent ($100 = 100). 500 points = Tickets to a show.

What's the points breakdown exactly?  I haven't seen any solid information anywhere yet about how points are accrued.  Is it as you say?  A flat 10pt per ticket?  And how does one go about claiming the 25pts for attending?  And what are you saying with the gift cards?

It looks like you can't see the page with the point breakdowns unless you already have an account, so I can't link you to it.

To sum up, you earn points by attending a show (25, I'm assuming you show your member card at the door), buying a ticket (10), buying 9:30 merch (15-35, depending on price of merch item), buying gift cards (dollar value of gift card = number of points earned), or linking a ticket purchase on facebook or twitter (2).

you bought stuff from the 930 since you registered as a Friend with benefits?
Example: it lists "Attending Alex Clare 25 points" <- I went to that show, can I claim those points? That's why I thought there would be some sort of filter, it lists shows going back to November. If not it's fine, I was just curious.

i sold the tickets on stubhub pretty low. they sold within a minute of posting as they were priced so low. and bought even more expensive tickets to of monsters and men on stubhub. I didn't make money off the deal.  I realized i couldn't go on valentines day.  so i used the money to see another show.  I guess I should have just thrown the tickets away?

Yeah, it would be nice if they gave points for IMP shows at other venues like U Street (those presented by 9:30 Club) and RHL. We'll see how this all goes...

Maybe they're just going to send out random sizes and say "Hey, if you got the wrong size just exchange it at the Club next time you're at a show."

After all, a friend wouldn't mind coming down to the club.

Of course, the next big question: do the purchases show up automatically in my account or do I have to do something special?

I've never really understood why the club is doing this.

All indications are that money is pouring in:  the club is booked most nights, shows are selling out, ticket prices are rising and people are drinking.  I get that there's an element of free "grassroots" advertising with all the branded merch, but this seems like a huge pain in the ass to administer with some small and dubious payback.

Does this program bring new concert-goers to the club?  Is there a glut of cupcakes and beanies that have to go?  Is this a way to collect more data on who exactly comes to the club?  I'm all about the club - its one of my favorite places to see a band - but I wonder how many people would rather pay $1 less for their ticket than get a free cupcake once a year.  That said, I'll be first in line on my birthday....

So, when's that members only presale again?  ;D

nice one :)

my point being, you said that "it seems to you" that the club is doing well... but how much info do you have?  seth has stated in the past that the club doesn't make that much money, it's the IMP shows that pay for his fancy car(s).

i can think of several reasons why they would want to start a loyalty program.  staying ahead of the competition (FSS).  not taking their current good fortunes for granted.  desire to move into new fields and wanting to use information gathered through the program (be on the lookout for 930 Records spam!).  maybe they've done studies and discovered that folks are drifting away from the club, but there are enough new arrivals that make up for the losses... now imagine if they could reduce the losses?  the club does well but many MPP shows are under-sold; loyalty program = cross-selling.  etc.

I have it on good authority that he did it solely to stop the bitching on he 9:30 board.

I told him, if you give everyone on the board a gold bar, at least 1/4 of them will complain that they didn't get platinum or silver and that it took too long to arrive.

He ignored my advice and went ahead with the friends program anyway.

Thankfully, I was proven right.  I love you all for that.

I got the shirt on 1/27, so they are not out of them
although they aren't that great.
Not sure why the name 930 club didn't get a bigger spot on the shirt
'Down with Friends' friends with benifits 930
it's on a nice quality blue shirt

I would wear it often if it had a big 930 on it

Also it's not clear how things are done
1. you need to show the card (or the image from your email on your phone) when you first enter the club to the ticket taker.
2. everytime you purchase something, you need to hand your card to the bar tender (I tend to always pay cash and dont' run a tab, but I suspect when you pay your tab you can give them the card.
3. the shrits are at the merch table and they had plenty.  Not sure if they only offered them to the early sign ups.

The points usually don't show up until a day or so later (at least that how it worked with ticketfly purchase)

Also I've emailed the staff running FWB and they have been helpful.  I said I didn't give the ticktet taker my card and she said, just take a photo of the ticket and she'll credit my account

I also paid cash for my drinks and the bartender swiped my card each time....but sadly they didn't show up on my account a few days later.
I'm hoping they will resolve that

Cupcake is only on your birthday month.
My 'friend' at FWB told me that it can take 48-72 hours for the points to show up
My drink points showed up and once they got the scan of my ticket they applied the 25 points too
49 points....only 451 more to get a free ticket

It's a pretty tasty cupcake since they also provide them to the artists in their dressing rooms.  The club occasionally post artist's tweet about them.  To me they are a like a grown version of a Hostess Ding-Dong. Dark chocolate frosting with a cream center.  And yes I've paid for mine :)

I really wish I liked sweets.  If I get my cupcake, I will gladly give it away.  Its weird that my parents own a bakery, but I do not eat cupcakes and all of that.  I went to their grand opening and didnt try any of the 12 flavors they had for the public (and since then they sell out of cupcakes EVERY day).
I'm picky about cupcakes.
I bet you would love these.

It is in Vidalia Louisiana (where I lived from age 12 to 18), where my parents live.
She does cakes: http://deseretdesigns.com/
and then the day to day business is mostly the cupcakes (she sells out every single day).

See, now these are some damn cupcakes. Modest cakey stump, frosting spread generously, lavishly over the entire cap (except those rose ones, of which I am suspect), and delightful flair dispersed across the frosting. They look delicious; they are delicious. USA!

This new trend of fist-sized cakey stump with a bouffant beehive of fancy-pantsy icing dolloped on top like a mexican-dinner crap in an outhouse is just so tired.

still waiting for my shirt and card, etc. in the mail. signed up on Jan 7. I'll talk to someone about it at the Rufus show tonight. My bday was on Jan 29, so hopefully I can get that cupcake tonight, too.

Question though: has anyone utilized the VIP offering for people in FWB yet? I was notified about it for tonight's show, and was hoping to get some details, like what time does my sweet VIP upgrade end tonight? I might not make it until the beginning of Martha's set.

probably not..depends on your number. if you were relatively low number maybe you should be worried.. i'm guessing they are sending them out in batches

and they don't send shirts out no more..only the real low numbers got that luxury..i was i think 0431 and didn't get the shirt but got the card a few weeks ago

Hoping for the sake of the staph that there will eventually be some kindaa kiosk or iPad station where you have to scan your card and/or bar receipt.  Or possibly one of those QR things you can take a picture of with your phone.

the door staph taking your ticket will have a scanner for your card.  just show it to them with your ticket, and you'll be all set for your "attending a show" points.

show your card at the box office, merch, kitchen, coffee bar, and the bar when you make a purchase to get those points.

regarding all the discussion here about using your FWB card buying food/beer: my bartender initially tried linking my FWB account manually (by typing my name in the computer, etc etc); then I suggested swiping itthrough the credit card reader, and that apparently worked.  She commented that she had no idea that the cards were swipe-able, which makes me wonder how much training the bartending staff got on these things.

When I bought tickets at the window, though, they had me write down the email address associated with my FWB card and said that it would get linked that way.  Which seems extremely inefficient if the card could just be swiped.

Yeah, I mean, if you explore the card itself for more than 2 minutes you'll discover the swipe strip on the back.... I thought that was there so that the card could be swiped....

So, if I open up a tab at a show I can use my card to get those points? That's boss.

No, but I honestly don't care.  I'm in the back of the balcony, but it doesn't matter to me at all!  I've been up front for the last 4 times I've seen him, and just saw him a few weeks ago at Strathmore.  Just went for the cheap seats.  I was afraid I wouldn't get tickets unless I snagged them.

Hey there!

We saw you're headed to The XX & Grizzly Bear Sunday night (6/16) at Merriweather so we wanted to do a little something special for ya...

We've put you plus 2 on the VIP list for Sunday night's show!  When you get to Merriweather, bring your photo ID along with your FWB card (electronic is fine) to the 9:30 Club tent, located just inside the South/Main entrance gates.   They can give you your VIP passes. We've attached a map so you can see where the VIP area is on site.

Come in and enjoy some free chips and dips from California Tortilla served in VIP from gates opening until first act takes the stage.

We hope you have a blast!

Your friends

Urm. I went to see Gary Clark Jr and Skrillex last week and those points aren't showing on my profile! I gave my card at the door when I came in. Is there a waiting period? When I bought the tickets those showed up immediately. Still...trying to figure this out...

Does FWB still give out those special passes for the VIP bar at Merriweather? I haven't seen a show yet this year but I'm going Thursday and I'm hoping they still do. I had it for New Order and Belle and Sebastian last summer and very quickly got spoiled. It's become one of my favorite parts of going to Merriweather.

Likewise...admittedly, I haven't paid much attention to the FWB stuff over the past year or so.

Was I supposed to be giving someone my card to be scanned at every show to get points? I thought I automatically received points when the tickets were used?

I always bring my card to shows at Merriweather, 9:30, etc. You get points for buying tickets, but also for attending as well. So if your buddy buys your ticket for you, you still get points for going to the show. At least that's my understanding.

Does this whole FWB thing not feel to anyone a little like collecting grocery store stamps to redeem for a free ham or cheaply-made humidor? I've thought of signing up and the hassle of doing all this seems comparable to waiting in breadlines.

Post by: ye-ole-hatch ıll|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|̲̅̅=̲̅̅|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|llıl on July 16, 2014, 02:35:11 pm
pretty simple, you just sign up with the same email you buy your ticketfly tix through
then you 25 points every time...buy tix to twenty shows and get a free ticket

you can also bring your card to the show...and get 10 points (even if your friend bought you the tickets)
and you also get points for every $1 you spend

So if you go with a group of friends and have a $200 bar tab...you get 200 points!

lastly if you go to a show and forget to bring your card, all you need to do is scan your ticket and email to FWB and they will add the 10 points to your account

The benies at MPP are pretty nice, but I never go there

They also hooked me up with a ticket to pickup at will call prior to a show going on sale (it didn't sell out, but was still pretty nice) as some shows are not eligible for a free ticket

I've earned a free one, but still haven't decided on what show I want to go to...

My only gripe is it is often not working at the front door/ticket sales ...should be slightly easier or just a swipe thing you run your card through
Title: Re: Friends with Benefits
Post by: challenged on July 16, 2014, 02:53:29 pm
It is so easy; when you buy tix online it automatically credits your account. No breadline involved.

Once in a blue moon the scanner device at the door is not working, and you have to come back to get it scanned.

I ordered my first item from FWB last week, and it arrived today: standard black  9:30 T-Shirt.

Only tweak I would suggest is allowing one to redeem points for 9:30 Merch while at the Club.  :)

Pretty much every time I try to get scanned at the door I'm told that someone else has the scanner and I have to come back later, or I can email the club and they'll take care of it.  It's actually kind of annoying.

Also, if memory serves me correctly, it's just to the left of the stage, and it's a nice little spot.  I had VIP tickets for FreeFest the year LCD played and it was fun back there.  (of course then there were free drinks)

Want a free ticket to a 9:30 show...donate 7 hours of your time to a local charity!
Thanks Seth and Co for such an awesome promotion and helping out these awesome DC charities!!!
Lend a helping hand.
Get some points in that hand.
It?s the right thing to do!

Spend some of your time volunteering for one of our partner charities and you?ll be even further on your way to concert tickets, merchandise and gift card rewards.

Earn 75 points for each hour you spend helping out at one of the following organizations:
http://www.wearefamilydc.org/ (http://www.wearefamilydc.org/) http://www.dccentralkitchen.org/ (http://www.dccentralkitchen.org/) http://marthastable.org/ (http://marthastable.org/)
It?s easy. Just sign up to volunteer. Print out the this form and bring it with you to have signed by the organization.

Once you?re home, scan it to us at friends@930.com. Your points will show up within 7 business days.

FAQ

Can I get points for volunteering with other organizations, aside from your partner charities?
Currently, we?re partnering with these three initial organizations. We would look to expand our program as it grows, including more organizations and more opportunities to volunteer.
Can I get points for hours I volunteered prior to the launch of this?
Points are only available for volunteering that takes place beginning December 1, 2015.
Do I have to volunteer a minimum number of hours in order to get points?
Not at all! If you only have a few hours to spare, that?s ok too. You?ll receive points based on number of hours.
Will the program only run during the holidays?
Good question! While the needs or organizations increase during the holidays, volunteers are something they need all of the time so we plan to have this program continue year round.
    I have more questions.
Email us at friends@930.com. We?ll do our best to help you out.

On my 4th….but dang that's a pretty good deal as I don't see live nation giving me anything for being a long term customer other than grief

I'm a big fan of this program
10 points for buying a ticket on ticketfly (have to have the same email as FWB)
25 when you show up for the show
merch, food and alcohol sales get you 1 point per $1…which can really get your points up quick
500 points gets you a tix at 930..more at other venues

every once in a while they do 'random acts of kindness' and free tix are available
but not much has happened there
if you go to MWP...the nice secret bar/bathrooms is a good benifit (only been to MWP once in the last decade)

My only gripe is the folks who man that email are not very responsive, I do think Vas does have a good suggestion

tix to sold out willie show, which wasn't free, but was unavailable to non-friends

I think my biggest gripe with FwB is that...

1. I have no clue what my ID number is nor do I ever have a card with me and that seemed to have caused some confusion/issues in the past. I think now you can just give them your email address, but who knows?

2. Read #1 again, but my bar bills would've prob. had me a few free shows by now. Oh well.

Well you can print your card and use that barcode for scanning points

Also if you ever don’t have card on you one can email them after show and they add the points

It is true they can be slow to respond but in my experience as long as you cash in points via FWB and get automated email response you will be taken care of...

Also it has to be said if you donate cds/lps they need for hall of records you get 100 points per cd and 150 per lp (sometimes more if you ask and it is something rare)...

Occasionally they have opportunities to get additional points..one time they gave 500 points for filling out a survey

Also one can cash in points for gift card and the card can be used at bars at 930 Club...can also use points for select IMP merch...I got the 930 Christmas ornament this way

Also not sure if sidehatch said this but IMP made an effort to include “Friends” in Anthem soft opening events

It's almost like you're an employee or something! :)

I think it's great, I'm just not organized with these kind of things. I've taken advantage of a few freebies though, but I find it unlikely if I dig up a receipt from my bar tab at 930 club (most likely just a credit card statement), They're going to give me points based on that??

I like how in 2018 the loyalty rewards program requires a physical card (or picture thereof) and the coat check requires giving a phone number and texting.

Does not require texting...there has been some confusion...just punch in a phone number and that number is your ticket to use when you pick up...you punch number in when you pick it up

I definitely have had them add merch/drink related points after the fact if the scanner was down, or if I forgot. No receipts were required.

you have to go to the table at the show to get your attendance points (930/UST they do it right at the door)
They have typically credited me for showed if I send them a scan of the ticket via email
but their communication is not very responsive, but I hate to bad mouth them as I'm now on my 5th free ticket

yes, that's exactly what i do for the attendance points.  and i present my card and email address associated with it when purchasing tickets at the box office.

in my communication with them i have included the order # and ticket #.

prior experience has been positive-replies and action within 72 hours. i'm going on 2 weeks now.

Slightly different question
you should get 10 points when purchasing at box office...but you have to do that whole email thing, which I think is odd, they should have a better system for that
then you gt 25~ points when you enter and go to the FWB table and get your card scaned
Wish they could just use an App that you could check in at a scanner at a bar or something...that would be much easier

Tits.  I might have to make that happen....

Still one of my favorite concert moments of all time was the Silent Alarm tour, with the Bravery opening, I think, and Bloc Party takes the stage at Bottom of the Hill in SF.

The girl behind me goes "Oh, I didn't know he was African American" and I said, without missing a beat, "he's not, he's British" and the look on her face was so confused I wish I had taken a picture of it.

Great show.

Unfortunately right now there is no direct integration with Rooam, we’re working to have it more closely integrated with the app developers, but currently the only way to track FwB points while using Rooam is to have the bartender swipe your card. We’re sorry for the inconvenience, we’re working toward a solution soon!

FWB is now integrated with ROOM
Guess I'll have to download this app now :(

Earning your Friends with Benefits loyalty points just got a whole lot easier. For every dollar that’s spent through the Rooam app, you will receive 1 loyalty point.
$30 spent = 30 points.

Now you never have to hand your loyalty card over to the bartender, just open a tab and off you go. Make sure you have the same email linked to your FwB and Rooam account.

I noticed a pretty decent hack the last time I used this service. It's probably not possible for the long term unless you were Space... but I digress.

I had a card tied to my account that was compromised and I hadn't updated the app since the last time I used it.

Anyway, I ran up a decent $100 or so tab and there was no way for ROOAM to charge me. I received notices for a while and simply ignored them, however, when I went to my next show at The Anthem I had to update the account with a proper card.

I was then charged for the previous bill.

The end.

Hutch said he was going to do something about it and then something got done and whether or not he actually caused it, he can totally take credit. This is right out of my playbook. Good move, Hutch.

please.  smackie has been taking credit for the inevitable for years now.

Going to Anthem for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic. Is the coat/bag check still open and free to FwB members?

Guess I should. Imagine it'll be even more helpful for New Porn at the club on Thursday.

I think it will be very helpful

The key is set up your mybindle app and once you get to Anthem don’t go to back of vaccine verification line. Just tell a staff member you have bindle and you should be able to go to front.

If it’s confusing just take a minute to ask someone

Actually latest info I have on anthem line says if you have bindle app you can skip vaccination verification line entirely and go to the line to get into venue by marquee

There's supposed to be a Friends with Benefits presale for The Black Keys show at Merriweather right now, but it's NOT working? Anyone know what's going on? The email said today at noon....

Alternatively, anyone have the Black Keys fan presale password? :D

Well, it finally unlocked about 15 minutes after when it was supposed to. Grabbed a ticket.

Glad to be remembered, Space Freely. It's been a long while. Went to all of one show in the past two years (Wilco/Sleater-Kinney @ Merriweather). Here's hoping for a better 2022.

I mean, I never shop at Krougers, so effectively zero.

so last I checked the FWB points are pegged to the Colón
So that exchange rate is 1 - 630.90

I do think there is a 1 to 1 exchange rate with the Talon, but good luck finding someone who accepts that

https://www.monex.com/gold-south-african-krugerrand-price-charts/

1780 say $1800 per krugerrand so if 35000 fwb is $2000 in gift cards then 1 krugerrand is about 35,350 FWB points

Is this at all right?

I get that
I was trying to be funny referencing Costa Rican Currency, which was referred to as Colones
But I just copied the singular of that and totally missed the joke, especially with the pegged comment

I can't believe Jules didn't catch the other Currency joke in there
