Cure moshpits are things of legend. I predict at least 2 boardies get one of their limbs ripped off and they are beaten to death with them. Such brutality. . .

Is that some kind of mashup of Richard and Linda Thompson and MBV?

Why should this show be any different from the rest?

"THE CURE TOUR 2016" will present Robert Smith (voice/guitar), Simon Gallup (bass), Jason Cooper (drums), Roger O'Donnell (keys) and Reeves Gabrels (guitar) as they explore 37 years of Cure songs, mixing hits, rarities, favourites and as yet unreleased tracks in a brand new stage production that promises to be the 'must see' show of the year!

glad we'll see Gallup and O'Donnell assuming there is no falling out..

I saw Gabrels play with Bowie on two occasions...

well that is encouraging..but they can play 4 hours shows easily. often do... its hard to figure how that happens here..i really think we need a petition... if Seth signed it...

as far as pussies... Robert Smith strikes me as a sort of pussy.. i'm not sure though...

Reeves Gabrels on guitar is very interesting. I think I'm one of the few people on Earth that liked Tin Machine. If nothing else, I'm glad he's still getting work.

Wait, the lead singer of The Cure doesn't seem like a rough and tumble meathead? I'm stunned by this analysis.

i was playing a lot of guitar in my late teens when Tin Machine was active, and i though Gabrels was awesome.  very unconventional.  that being said, i wonder how that will translate to playing with the Cure...

I guess the US Tour has begun.. the first setlst is rather bizzaro... half of the show is from Seventeen seconds/The Top/Wish! 14 songs out of 29 from those albums... I really can't say they are my favorite Cure albums but I do like them....

It will be interesting to see how much they change it up..two new songs: It can never be the same (very promising Cure-ish title) and Setp into the Light (very unpromising unless it goes "No matter how hard you try to step into the light it will be completely dark..")

I agree, that is a nice setlist.  Burn!  That was the first song of theirs that I remember ever hearing, on the Crow soundtrack.  I am hoping to possibly snag a secondary market ticket for this.

I can't make a middle-of-the-week show at Merriweather so I going up for the first MSG show in NYC. I am hoping for more tunes from Pornography, which is probably my favorite LP of theirs. That and Seventeen Seconds are probably the 2 I listen to the most. The one tune I'd want to hear is "Cold"...I'm just glad Simon Gallup is still playing bass for them. One of my favorite bass players ever.

ha ha... 10 songs from disintegration last night.. basically they played two nights in New Orleans and gave two different shows!

The Cure is a live powerhouse/juggernaut that can pretty much play anything on any night...

Only 1 song from Wish, no songs from The Top and no songs from Seventeen Seconds...

Really happy to see they played "Burn" both nights. That song is a showstopper. Cannot wait for this tour, I just wish that I could see more than one date because the shows will each be vastly different. I love it when bands mix up the setlists radically. With a band like the Cure, it'll be great no matter what.

Thirty years ago, I would not have expected the Cure to become a live powerhouse that puts on Springsteen-length concerts with changed-up setlists each night. It really is impressive. Good for them.

I was at this Cure show nearly 29 years ago and I seem to remember it being around three hours in length.

That's crazy.
One niggling thing though -- who the fuck needs four encores anyway? I mean, ok if it's New Years Eve and you're playing Madison Square Garden, indulge yourself and the audience. But every single night you're playing three or four encores? Just pack it all into one awesome second set/encore instead of making everybody clap and scream and yowl over and over.

Yes, but...and good on you for seeing that show!

They've gotten a lot more flexible in that for about 10 years at least now they can play whatever.... which is pretty impressive when you have a catalog of so many songs to draw on...

I mean take the covering LPs concept.. a few years back- and they did not come to DC of course- they played a few shows where they covered THREE of their own albums in one concert!

The best thing going though is Robert Smith's voice... he's 57 but still retains that distinct voice...I don't know how to describe his voice but its one that I could easily have seen changing if he had been smoking/boozing it up for the past few decades....he hasn't...

I do worry about MPP curfew though.....

obviously part of the reason they can play that many songs and draw from so much is that Robert Smith must be one real exacting perfectionist band leader.... rehearsals must be a bitch.... I don't know... there's something to be said for the way he's doing things.. he realizes he doesn't have the new songs people want to hear so instead he compensates by giving a relatively decent priced/long ass show drawing from all eras etc..

Disintegration is my favorite album. I would take that show gladly....i mean songs like plainsong/prayers for rain... gosh.. my head would explode..

who knows what is going on.. some of the cities on this tour are supposedly places they have never played before... maybe they never played new Orleans and he wanted to give them a disintegration show.... who knows..also there was a rare 2 night stand there... i'm guessing one of the 3 MSG shows will also get a disintegration show...and we will not...

the tour is billed as a few new songs (so far they've done 2 both shows) and songs drawing from all eras...hits and b-sides.. so far they're doing just that...

gonna be interesting seeing the setlists..i could see them being all quite different...

i mean there is potential for anything which is exciting.. i can now imagine them playing the exploding boy!

If I get anything from Seventeen Seconds, Pornography, Disintegration, and some singles like "the Walk", "Charlotte Sometimes" or "Let's Go to Bed", I'll be thrilled. It's kind of interesting that "Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me" material sort of gets glossed over. That was a huge record for them. Lots of hits. "The Head on the Door" is also pretty freakin' great. The Cure has so much incredible material. Gothic death rock, happy silly singles, and meandering introspective pretty numbers. "Pictures of You" alone is incredible. I'd also love to hear from older b-sides like "Stop Dead". It's so much fun to see what they're digging out.

The Head on the Door is great

Argentina's release of THOTD used the picture from the In Between Days 45....huge hardcore following of the Cure down there.. I remember moving there in early 1987 and the Cure fans would gather at this one pedestrian shopping street in all their Robert Smith splendor -white pancake makeup, poofed up hair, black clothes, with giant scrapbooks full of pictures and stuff to trade I guess and hang.. made quite an impression.... then the Cure came and some yutzes threw bottles at them and Robert Smith said the Cure would never play there again.... but a couple of years back after like 35 years they came back and played one of their monster shows..

Just this weekend I picked up the US release... the promo with the sticker and the gold stamp on back and promotional copy not for sale on labels.. I was/am pysched..

That is a strange statement. You really do not think the Cure EVER played New Orleans before?  Who knows?  That is easy information to lookup.  And yes, they have played there several times.  NOLA is a huge market for that part of the country.

Yep.   I grew up in that state and most of my old friends still live there, and a good chunk of them were at voodoo that year. And every year. One of these years  I am going to go to it as well One of these years. Combining a trip to see my parents with a cool music festival sounds fun.

Some cities they are playing on this tour they have never played before...at least that is what The Cure is saying...so I'm not sure why its so strange to say that maybe they had never played New Orleans before.. fuck if I know.

I've never thought of New Orleans as one of the largest live music markets which is why I could have seen the Cure not having played the place......love the place... but it just isn't a first tier market in anything

http://www.hypebot.com/hypebot/2015/03/the-united-sates-of-events-americas-top-concert-going-cities-by-genre.html

Why would you see the Cure in Nawlins when a band playing on the side of the road is probably better??

**throws on flame retardant suit**

Dean Ween Band or Gene Ween?

OK, I am dropping out of this conversation.

That link is for the 25 LARGEST cities in the USA.  All of those charts are for the SAME 25 cities.  New Orleans IS NOT ONE OF THE 25 LARGEST CITIES IN AMERICA.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_population

It is number 50.  SO it would not be on your list/link.

That does NOT mean NOLA as a market is not HUGE.  It is the place people in Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, and other Southern states go.

Last night's setlist from Colorado is insane. 4 songs from Seventeen Seconds, and "Cold" and a "Strange Day". I realize the odds are low that I'll get to see all of those in the same show, but I would flip for that.

Not that it really matters much, but I will be at the concert!!! So stoked, because it's my first time seeing them in 12 years. I'll be in the lawn seats, which honestly is not a bad thing. The one time I saw the cure, I had press passes and got to be about only 2 feet from Robert Smith (yes I can post the crappy photos I took for my college's newspaper if you really want a good laugh). I think the experience was so much for my 18-year-old self that now at 30-going-on-31, I'm just like "woohoo, can't believe I got a pair of lawn tickets to the sold Cure concert!" All I ask is for is decent weather and to maybe hear "Charlotte Sometimes" (they didn't do it when I saw them last). The fact they've been playing "Burn" just makes me happy.

so with ticketmaster and live nation, they usually not always, have rerelease of tickets within a week of most shows . . . but I am assuming ticketfly does not do that.  I have scored great seats to sold out shows, a few days before, or day of shows.  I would like to go to the cure, and I even like Merriweather, although getting to Nissan is easier, for me and I have to accept that I could go to stub hub the day before and see.  then I would actually have to go, and maybe get a hotel room because its so far, and then when to get there and drinking and such.

People always refer to this "curfew ," yet I've seen multiple shows go past 11 at MPP.

I'm calling urban legend.

I asked if there is a curfew or not.. I did not see an answer...

I have heard there is but am not sure.. but keep in mind the Cure could play as much as 35 songs if they had no time constraint and wanted to do so... I just can't see them being given that much time!

I seem to recall a band that had to stop playing but just can't recall who it was...

I know the twilight sad has been getting rave reviews but  I don't even understand why the Cure has an opener.. when a band is playing 35 songs they are their own opener...

Merriweather has a curfew of 11pm at all times.

Since this is sold out, here's how to avoid the traffic...

Take 29 to 32 towards Clarksville.
Exit at the Sanner Road/Cedar Lane exit.
Take a right onto Cedar Lane
Follow Cedar Lane to Little Patuxent Parkway and take a Right. This will take you straight to Merriweather/the mall.

Option B:
From Cedar Lane, take a right onto Hickory Ridge Road.
Take a left onto Brokenland Parkway at the light
Take a right onto little patuxent parkway (you will be right there)

If you're coming from the North, you can do this as well. Just drive past the merriweather exit and the brokenland parkway exit.

The traffic was a mess last week for that other sold out concert of that band I've never heard of.

Where is this urban legend confirmed? As stated, I've seen multiple shows go past 11pm there, usually one specific band that does this.

Loved the Madison Square Garden show. The Patriot Center show from like 7 or 8 years ago was a better setlist...but I had a great seat and the band were having a fun time. 2 hours and 45 minutes. Seeing "Pornography" live was amazing. "Prayers for Rain" is always one of my favorites live, and "Close to Me" was so damn fun. They have one hell of a rhythm section, and Robert Smith's voice still sounds pristine. I will just say this: I implore all of you to get there in time to see the Twilight Sad. What a phenomenal band. They were one of the better opening bands I've ever seen, and their performance was nothing short of completely totally brilliant.

Also, I'm assuming you're not giving him road head on the way home?

I did not know how much he paid.  I have not been following this thread that closely.  I am reading the last few days worth of posts now... Yeah, that is too much per ticket.  I am hoping to score one for face value or less off of Stubhub on Wednesday, or I will not be seeing the Cure this go around.

I paid $120/ticket. You'll probably be able to get a better deal on Wednesday when people start dumping them. The nice thing about my tix are they're aisle seats (well, mine is) and you've got a great view of the stage. Plus, I'll be smoking a mountain before the show, of course.

Thanks!  I just snagged one.  They had weirdly specific rows available.  I messed around with the system for a bit and finally settled on a pavilion ticket.

I thought pavilion tickets were $80... Mine was only $60 (plus fees)....

Thank you for this. I am absolutely terrified about this drive because I'm basically starting at Capitol Hill and will have to drive all the way north through the city (I'm assuming via Georgia Ave/Hwy 29). I'm hoping if I leave by 5:00 I'll be there by 7:00. Is this just completely stupid to assume?

Pitting as well.

has anyone done the FWB VIP thing at Merriweather this year? It appears to have changed..

"VIP is located to the side and back of the pavilion-it?s a great place to hang, grab a drink with little to no line or take advantage of the special VIP restrooms.  Our team at the 9:30 tent can help direct to you the new entrance (from last year)"

So, no longer near the Pit... ???

I've yet to use my FWB stuff with Merriweather. So I have a question - I have a co-worker who is going to the show with me. We got lawn seats. Plan on leaving Frostburg by 1:30 pm, which means we'll probably be at Merriweather like 4 or 4:30 pm. I'm so bringing my FWB card with me because I've always wanted to do the gate crashes vip pre party thing. I figure maybe I can get good dibs on a spot in lawn. Here's the thing, can I bring my co-worker with me into the pre-party? Or does he need his own FWB card? which for my coworker is kinda stupid because he's never been to the club before and this is his first time going to merriweather. He doesn't get out of town much, hence why I was like "Hey! Want to go with me to see the cure?" lol

Any info and tips would be appreciated. I don't want to be some jerk and ditch my friend for some VIP party.

One more thing - I noticed in the faq's for Merriweather it says personal food items in clear, disposable, non-glass containers are permitted. So does this mean I pack some snacks and stuff in ziplock bags or even bring in food in clear plastic containers from my favorite co-op?

All right cool. I wondered if it was like Wolf Trap where you can't bring your drinks back to your seat. This is good news.

And if you didn't know, DAR does allow seat drinks sometimes. I know they allowed it during Belle & Sebastian a couple years ago.

There are 2 perqs at issue

1. Gatecrashers, early admission
2. Random Acts of Kindness VIP admission

I believe that all FWBers got 1 and that about 1/2 of the FWB members going to the show got 2.

2. has always been called Random Acts of Kindness and gave access to the VIP area next to the Pit (stage right) that had its own bar and bathrooms and a foodtruck or 2.  No head, or touching in one's bathing suit area was ever involved.

Now, it seems, they have moved that VIP area. Hopefully not too far or inaccessible from the Pit.

I think that with the VIP thing - you need to go to the 930 tent, show your card and maybe ID and you get wristbanded. So whoever is sharing the VIP thing needs to walk the sharee through the process.....

well when I went two years ago there was a tiki bar stage right with a bathroom .. so you could kind of avoid the masses or having to go schlep far during the show to use the restroom.. i'd just like melania to avoid the commoners...i suppose walking up 400 steps in those 10 inch heels i am making her wear also might be diffcult...

Is all this VIP talk just so you have an easier time taking a leak? Or are there other benefits? I'll be tripping through the cosmos and loving up everybody around me, so I'll probably just keep my aura to myself. But I'm still curious about what all you people are yammering about.

90% leakage
10% separation from the rabble

It's definitely about the exclusivity and not having commoners near you. My two biggest complaints the time Sweetcell and I went in there was they did not seem to keep the fatties out and it was in an area where laypeople could see you. Security did not seem to be very attentive about making sure prole-attendees did not make eye contact with you.

Can't decide whether to be ironic and wear my white Morrissey t-shirt or my black Pittsburgh Penguins tshirt. So yeah if you see a 5'8" blonde with glasses, longish hair, say hello and it might be me. It would rule to finally meet some of you boardies!

i had no problems with traffic coming in (other than traffic in baltimore city) - got there about 7:10..parked in the mall parking lot....started walking towards the exit right before boys don't cry ended because i knew that was their last song.....made it out without any traffic...was home by 11:45, whereas my friends that stayed until the very end were still in columbia at midnight...suckers

show was great, i think i preferred the NYC setlist a bit more - mainly for the 1-2-3 Disintegration flow but at least we got edge of the deep green sea and a forest

when i was walking to my car, i saw the cure tour bus get a police escort away from merriweather...thought that was interesting....like they  must have stopped playing, walked directly to the bus and left
(assuming it was the cure..i suppose it could have been twilight sad or maybe something else entirely)

Great show.
Arrived early, gate crashed and VIPeed.
Lounged in what must be a make-shift temporary VIP lounge down by the drainage pond.
Twilight Sad singer channeled Michael Stipe's antics.
The Cure were impressive. What a catalogue of great songs. Still surprised at myself for never seeing them before.
Thanks to Bagley for acquiring the Pit tickets when I failed to do so.
Only issue, was the 5'11" 300lb gentlemen who stood in front of me around 20 minutes in. Problem resolved in a few minutes, but he was like a total eclipse of the Cure.

The foolproof way into Merriweather is via westbound Little Patuxent Parkway/175.  Stay right at veer onto Governor Warfield Parkway.  Take either of the left turns in to the mall parking lot.

Bummed that the "secret handshake" lot was full.

First time seeing them, so much fun. I was blown away by how damn good they sounded. I wasn't ready. I think their 3rd or 4th song was "Pictures Of You" and I kind of lost it lol. Super fun! Left right before they played "Close To Me", was bummed. Took me almost 2 1/2 hours to get there from Manassas. Totally worth it. And I got to hang out with Killsaly for a bit!

This is what the urban dictionary says:

Gangster
There are two types of "gangster":

1) A wannabe thug, often illiterate and an inhabitant of a downtrodden ghetto that hangs around in "gangs"; largely associated with the African-American subculture. These try-hard wanna be "gangstas" attempt to make themselves appear like real criminals by graffiting buildings, smoking/selling drugs and trying to looking all "bad-ass and macho an'-shit, yo". An utter degradation of what true gangsters represent (see below), and street wannabe "gangsta"-types don't hold a candle to what real gangsters are.

2) The *real* gangsters are those behind organised crime; most notably the Mafia. Responsible for blackmarket trade, epsionage, organised beatings/assassinations, etc. "The Godfather" portrays the archtype of true gangsters, showing the brutality of mob beatings, shootings, running rackets and abusing woman, alcohol and everything in between. The real gansters are *not* to be confused with the aforementioned definition, commonly used as it might be.

I'd of course look forward to your review... I thought the show was great, always enjoy a career spanning set with both the hits and rarities.  Smith appeared to be having fun. The rhythm section was rock solid and man those bass lines killer as on the records and Simon still prowling the stage.  It was neat seeing Reeves on guitar, he makes it seem so effortless and he did get to rip one really good solo towards the end of one of the encores

I thought the show was outstanding.  Smith was in fine voice (although he did avoid a few of the higher octaves) seemed to be enjoying himself and the band was tight.  I have a habit of checking the time during shows to see how how far into the set the band is.  First time I checked 90 minutes had elapsed.  I was amazed - felt like 30.  And much more was still to come.

Got to meet up with Kosmo and saintangelsin in front of the 932.

Thanks to sidewinder for the tickets.  Even though they were Row L, not G as advertised.  ;D

Would have liked to hear Charlotte and Love Cats, but I can't complain. And getting from Olney to MPP is a breeze.  Love shows there. Curious what the area behind the stage will look like eventually.

well.. for some context i got into the Cure around  Kiss Me Kiss Me although I can remember driving around in 1986 with high school kids with standing on a beach blaring.... then in college I really got into them freshman year with Disintegration.. I mean really got into them.. bought everything..

then i guess in 1996 they came out with wild mood swings and i hated it... i bought tickets and forgot about the show and didn't go...at that time i was really into the Matador bands and indie bands and discovering things like Nick Cave and Nick Drake.. so I was just not into the Cure any more... then I liked Bloodflowers more but still not enough ..but i got tickets for 2000 but i had some function i could not skip so i didn't go..so its been a star crossed history but of course over the ensuing years i guess i just got into them again and was always sad I had never seen them.. then i thought that if i did see them robert smith would be old and it would suck... but then they announced this tour and i got excited.

then the set lists started rolling in and i was like "whoa nelly"

last night getting there was like a root canal for me... picked up SideSquat in Fairfax and then it took us like two and a half hours to get parked....so when i walked in to MPP with the hordes walking in i was definitely a little discombobulated... went down to the pit and i was surprised there was a lot of space.. i guess many people were getting drinks cause the twilight sad had wrapped up.. or maybe people were having trouble finding parking.. i dunno.. point is that without any trouble about 745 i was able to amble over to the middle of the pit and find a great spot in what would be the equivalent of 15th row center.. not too shabby.. i kept thinking  a huge horde of agressive rude people would show up but it never happened... everybody was polite and nice.. there were way more women than i can remember seeing at a show in a very very long time.. .and the men/boys were not the bro crowd... not the frat fuck kind... for example very few people were wearing baseball caps.. very very few.. i foudn that unusual...anyways the tech guys worked on the sound.. the setlists got taped.. and about 5 minutes later the band comes out and it hit me "holy shit this is happening.. i'm just a few feet from frickin' robert smith"... yea i am a fanboy.. a woman next to me had the same reaction..  like "holy shit... this is like too much.. too perfect.."... and for $80? i really could not beleive it.. anyways the band started up and they pretty much maintained the same course the entire time..

robert smith was very still.. not the traditional frontman.... no "hey DC.. HOW YA DOIN!!!!!!!!!".. NOTHING like that.. not a single concession to traditional rock strictures.... but his face was quite expressive.. his eyes very much so.. i was so glad i was close by cause otherwise i would have really missed it....he appears nervous/uncomfortable up there.. no "rock star" vibe... he started in and immediately kind of scanned the crowd . .i mean really looked to get an idea what was what....i have no idea what he thought....a few songs in he said something like "you expect to get used to playing for this many people but you never do..."... which brings me to the next point.. a few very few times he tried to communicate to the crowd.. something..ANYTHING..and every time - at least where i was- it was hard to make out what the fuck he was saying.. i'm not sure if it was that weird accent he has.. or the sound balance or what...i felt like i wasn't the only one that couldn't tell.. melania who is a huge robert smith fan and was a bit on the borderline psychotically obsessed teenager about robert smith was a bit closer to the left and she could tell what he was saying so she told me later...  but from where i was it seemed like he would say something...look at the crowd to see some recognition and the people in the crowd we would look at each other like "what the fuck did he just say? he's so weird!" but in a good way.... anyways the sound was quite good but it did seem to fluctuate like the noise levels went up and down... they definitely toyed with the levels.. at one point robert smith asked his vocals go up a little bit.... the drums on a few songs- to me- sounded plodding but on others sounded great... the ace in the hole was the bass dude Simon Gallup who sounded great and more importantly gave the band some much needed pep.. cause obviously the drummer can't move... the 88 year old guitarist next to smith kept a low profile only stepping out on 2-3 wailing guitar solos that to me did not fit.. i love reeves gabrels (saw him twice with bowie)... but if he were a garnish he'd be parsley...they could ALMOST get away with being a four piece but that would be a little too much heavy lifting for robert at this point... ANYWAYs... simon gallup didn't just sound magnificent..a nd his bass didn't just lead and carry the songs.. a lot of the songs are really built around the bass and last night just emphasized that.. and he was bopping around the stage.. standing on top of something so everyone could see him wailing (a very physical approach to the bass)... and he looks like 15 years younger than Robert even though they are surely the same age.. he looked kind of like a slicker out of a james dean rebel without a cause flick... anyways thank god for him because they sorely needed him....

so some songs i loved the drummer.. some songs i thought it was just like thud thud thud thud thud monotone beat boring.... not that many but a few

thing is as has become apparent the Cure has like 100 songs that are really beloved to choose from and the fact you know you are getting a long show makes it really exciting because you know you're going to get so many songs you love.. this is pretty unusual.. when you go see legacy acts that play 17 songs and they're pushing 5 songs from the recent album everybody loathes, 1 "surprise" cover.. there isn't that much space to hear many of the songs you love

not so with the cure

we did not get the disintegration heavy show with 9 songs from that album.. intead we got a more diverse set list in some ways..

32 songs the bulk from head on the door (6) , kiss me kiss me (I think 5), disintegration (I think 5), wish (4)..  so 20 out of 32 from the 1985-1992 period... oh and also the to me execrable never enough which was the beginning of the end for smith's penchant for writing great stuff.... anyways out of the rest the vast vast majority was stuff from the top (3), japanese whispers (2) etc...

worked for me.. although love cats, charlotte sometimes and one other tune where missed...

but enough about the set list.. it was a killer set list... the high moment for me was the push-in between days- just like heaven trifecta... perhaps my two favorite cure songs back to back.. you kidding me?

so a few songs in i settled in and no longer felt discombobulated... being in rush traffic for over two hours only to get in line with thousands of strangers will do that to me..

so what am i forgetting.. obviously roger o'donnell on keyboards.. the fact i forgot him tells you that i didn't think that much about him during the show.. sure he was there going ploink ploink ploing.. another real effusive outwards personality not....good lord.. he seems like a real nice guy.. and i love his contributions to their albums.. the flowing synths on disintegration must be him at least in part....but up there he didn't do all that much interesting. he had a small keyboard and seemed to be channeling a kraftwerkian sprockets vibe up there....standing kind of still ...

i guess i was kind of fixated on robert smith who was 15 rows or so straight in front of me.. i watched his guitar playing with great interest... he sure came up with a lot of great riffs.. and reeves did not get to play all of them.. laid back on quite a few.. may have completely sat out 1 or 2 songs..

at some point robert smith talked about how the floor reminded him of his parent's floor and he'd bring out a toy train set during the 3rd encore.. it seemed like nobody hear or understood it...

to me the sound seemed to improve for the last half of the show (the encores)......it no longer oscillated in my recording device which leads me to believe something improved and i don't think its just that i moved back 2-3 feet... the crowd like i said was very friendly.. no testosterone.. no people going back every other song to get better/use bathroom.. none of that bullshit... it worked.. robert had no testosterone going and neither did the crowd.. lots of women everywhere.. women who probably dragged their men to the show.... one of the oddest phenomenon how a butt ugly guy like robert smith can have thousands of women fawning over him but there's something to be said for poetry..... at least where i was everyone stayed fixed .. nobody tried to cut in.. nobody bumped into you... nobody held a camera for 45 minutes striaght blocking your view..

the crowd.. i dont' know.. tough to say.. .probably good but could have been more outgoing...i thought one of the songs towards the end the crowd kind of let down the performance and it was a bit of a trainwreck but not sure which

overall, i was spellbound..  i thought the sound was really good, the crowd didn't get in the way of my enjoyment as can happen.... security was not an issue running around hassling people...  my favorite instruments were the bass and smith's guitar... i loved it and it made my contretemps over the years seeing them totally worthwhile.. i think it would be hard for me to have a more enjoyable experience.. maybe if they could get those two giant fans to move a little faster.... at one point i moved about 15 feet diagonal to see how melania was doing and then moved back cause it just wasn't the kind of scene where if you're even somewhat tall you can just move in and block people.. and i was fine with that... i saw quite a few guys singing along to the songs which -given the lyrics- was interesting.. but i am guilty of doing the same....i did see two young teens macking which was also interesting.. one guy repeatedly held up a really cool looking robert smith MUPPET!.. the first time robert saw it he kind of chuckled a bit... .somebody kept holding up a small square sign.. what it said i haven't the foggiest notion....

after the show couldn't even buy a water.. i guess they want people to drive home drunk... i barely drank at the show...thanks SideSquiint fo the beer!

the show was so good for me that i would be reluctant to see them again unless i could replicate the circumstances... it would be hard to top for me..

oh yeah... the rarities we got were:

bananafishbones which i think is the one SideSpice thought was One Hundred Years.. I didn't even recognize it! and Sinking which was AWESOME... and If only tonight we could sleep.. which i loved...

i think they should always play either catch or strange girl and we got neither

Robert really put his heart into singing sinking and a few others (pictures of you).. and then some of them were just fun songs to sing and he didn't have to work too hard...

I mean really thinking about it the only way to top that would be to see them at the 930 club and that ain't  happening!

I've been keeping a concert journal for this very reason. Over 700 shows. My entries keep getting longer because I try to put as many details in it as possible. More than anything it is  to help me piece together where I was, what I was doing...and it's amazing how many times I've gone out of town with the specific purpose of seeing a concert.

hutch, you're being an unfunny tool.  it's rapidly getting embarrassing for you.
I will co-sign with Sweets on this. If anyone was consistently tweaking Hutch as frequently as he pokes at Killsaly, the moderators would've gotten involved. I guess Killsaly should suck up to Seth, maybe someone might give a crap about him then.
Thanks.  I have no idea what I did to him to make him want to constantly mess with me.

I will still be around but I am going to lurk for a bit.  I enjoy this place, and have made several friends from here, but I don't need to deal with harassment on a daily basis.   I can't post anything without a certain poster replying with something meant to upset me.   I don't really care about this person or what he says, but enough is enough.   I can't post an announcement or what I am listening to or where I am going without him trying to harass me.  Every single day.  Grow up, you act like a bully.  When I ask someone to stop doing something to me and they keep doing it, it's harassment.  Maybe he thinks he is funny... I can't be in the wrong here with so many people calling him out on it...

I am just tired of this and will waste my online time elsewhere.  If one of my friends on Facebook acted like he does, I would have blocked and unfriended them.

If one of my friends on Facebook acted like he does, I would have blocked and unfriended them.

you're the one constantly insulting me FUCKFACE.. its a public forum.. if you don't want to engage in conversations just ignore my comments instead of freaking out and acting like a first class TOOL.

good riddance.

this thread is emblematic of you... instead of actually posting something about the cure you post a bunch of off topic crap nobody cares about like fucking somebody is a G or some shit.

there is nothing bullying about anything i posted... its sad to see real bullying become trivialized...

commenting about how Seal sucks is not bullying sorry to say...

I made one comment, an inside joke, about DFA being a Certified G.

YOU, turned it into two pages of nagging at me.  Calling him gay.  Trying to get under my skin.

How is that not bullying?  I did NOT engage you in a conversation.  You replied to what I said.  I explained it.  You would not let it go.

It got to the point where Julian, Kosmo and Sweetcell agreed that you should stop.

Saying Seal sucks is having an opinion.  Bringing up Seal every single day because you think it will bother me, is harassment.

Defending myself means I am a tool?  Telling you to stop means I am a tool?

Why don't YOU ignore my posts?  You keep pushing at me.

I have decided you are an unstable person with serious issues that i am going to ignore you all together from now on. You simply can't take a little ribbing.. you are amazingly thin skinned... a little joking around on an internet board  for you is the equivalent of bullying.. your response is to insult left and right, froth at the mouth, send insulting mails to me and THEN claim to be the aggrieved party.. ridiculous.

Hutch, I am far from "unstable."

I actually hang out with quite a few people from here in real life, and they will all vouch for me.

Feel free to ignore me at any time.

I note we are still waiting for ANY input on this thread from you relating to the Cure

and why did you not ignore the thread alltogether if I offend you so much? if i bully and harass you so much? after all I created the thread so it would stand to reason i would be posting on it.. why post on the thread then if as you say i am bullying and harassing you?. you say i harass you and you come to a thread I start and post about how i am harassing you and not one word about the Cure? why not pick a thread i don't post on .. thousands of those...

sorry dude..

You can ignore me at any point.  I did not even have a chance to write a review of the show before you relentlessly harassed me about using the term certified G.

You can ignore me at any point.  I only mentioned I was about to lurk so people didnt ask what happened to me after I quit posting on here.

Whatever your justification is, your intent was that you wanted to mess with me.  Pure and simple. This is not the only time.  You do it to everything I post.  EVERYTHING.

And i do not care what your reply is, it will be the same old broken record response.

The Cure did rule.

fantastic article and eloquent in why the Cure are unlike any other group
I though they delivered one of the best shows I've seen in a big arena in a while
to think this was their 40th anniversary...kinda crazy as they didn't put on a "hits" show, they put on a performance

really dance to the beat of a different drummer
