That parade of of nations thing last night had to be the most boring thing I've ever watched on television. It actually had me wishing my father in law would turn the channel back to his Fox News. At least I was able to seize the remote and flip it to the O's/Sox game during the commercial breaks. Man, the Zach Britton has some nasty stuff.

The women's rugby was OK but for me the summer Olympics really don't start until we get some team handball and badminton, the world's fastest racquet-based sport.

Women's gymnastics has given us both Shawn "It makes my Taco Pop" Johnson and Makayla "Stinkface" Maroney. It is beyond reproach.

To be fair, many wealthy people carry multiple wallets to facilitate all their money and who in their right mind doesn't keep a spare watch in their breast pocket for sartorial emergencies?

I thought we had a policy of not responding to each other but  I will feel free to do so to your posts from now on..

I have no hate for small women.. I do have hate for a "sport" that stunts women's growth... the reason the gymnasts are so tiny I think is because the sport stunts their growth... but maybe I'm wrong .. if so I don't hate gymnastics.

I certainly do not hate small women.

Although I wonder if his swimmin bros got all mad at how he made himself look like a stud, so they're like "ahh fuck this made-up story, sorry brazil, we totally lied, we were just having a piss party at a gas station"

Interesting theory, but if so, they made the huge miscalculation of doing that while still in Brazil after Lochte left. If there's one thing I learned from The Wire, its that if you come at the king, you best not miss.

I dunno, I plan to get fairly lubricated since I'm taxiing back. But a proper pee party requires many a pee so we'll all need the water to reload.

I watched the one bolt race last night, at a bar.  I got to see the whole back area thing, the run out like a superstar, and the pre warm ups on the track, with each runner.  I, never have watched a race as a complete process, such as that.  it was cool.  bolt, is indeed a superstar.  his banter with the camera on the track before the start, and his charisma is that of someone who knows they are glory, which is in part, why they are so incredible.  I was, hoping he would have beat the record, and I am curious if he is happy he won, but curses himself, because the only point now is the record.

He holds the record already I'm almost certain.

He notoriously "pulls up" and stops running 100% when he realizes he's far enough ahead to win. He did last night. He'd rather mug for the camera than try to lower his record, apparently.

I don't know..they were security guards and Lochte did not want to wait for the cops...they were trying to split....we just don't know exactly how events unfolded....If somebody vandalizes your place and tries to leave and the guards hold the person by pointing a gun... that in itself is not robbery..seems pretty standard..... Lochte was by all accounts rather belligerent.. how events unfolded in as far as a need for payment is concerned I don't know.....

I just would much rather think of Americans abroad like those guys that helped stop the terrorist on the train in Europe last summer (?) than this Lochte clown.... but we've got both! (probably like every other country)

I just don't think he killed anyone or even really hurt anyone.. more like gave a black eye to our country.. helps perpetuates the "ugly american" idea... People in other countries don't need any more reasons to hate us....(mostly unjustified in my view)

You're under the impression that if you call the cops on someone and they attempt to flee the scene (in a non-violent manner) you can detain them at gun point?

That's bribery, not robbery.

In exchange for no further penalties, they were "asked" to pay their way out.

Robbery would have been simply taking their money without exchanging anything.

Pardon my ignorance, but doesn't what you lay out at least constitute "extortion"? And wouldn't the interjection of a gun (de facto force in my mind) raise the level to burglary?

I certainly don't have the right if someone owes me money to show up at their house and demand remuneration under threat of a deadly weapon.

ROBBERY: Give me your money. (Or taking your money without you knowing)

ARMED ROBBERY: Give me your money and won't shoot you.

BRIBERY: Give me the money in your wallet and I won't turn you into the authorities.

AGGRAVATED BRIBERY: While I'm threatening you, give me your money and I won't turn you into the authorities.

EXTORTION: Go do something you wouldn't normally do and in exchange I won't do this awful thing that you won't like.

I really don't know exactly what happened or Brazilian norms for security guards.

Are you under the impression that if someone robs a bank in the US the security guards can't point a gun at the robbers?

Is the bank robber threatening people with deadly force? If so, then the actions of someone else raising a firearm falls under self defense, IMHO.

I don't think if i walk into a grocery store and knock over a cardboard cutout of Cindy Crawford and grab a stick of gum and attempt to walk out without any physical threat to another person that someone who is not an active member of law enforcement can commit assault and/or battery on me legally.

But again, I am not a real lawyer, I am a dude who watches Judge Judy. I cede to statements from real lawyers. And I'm doubly definitely-not an expert on Brazilian law.

But I understand how an American layperson can misconstrue a situation to think what happened to him as "robbery" without any intention to deceive people. I do, sort of, believe Ryan Lotche legit thought he was robbed by a cop when some dude in a uniform (he did not know 100%) stuck a gun at him and demanded money and said something (in a language he did not 100% understand).

Is the bank robber threatening people with deadly force? If so, then the actions of someone else raising a firearm falls under self defense, IMHO.

I don't think if i walk into a grocery store and knock over a cardboard cutout of Cindy Crawford and grab a stick of gum and attempt to walk out without any physical threat to another person that someone who is not an active member of law enforcement can commit assault and/or battery on me legally.

well I guess we disagree then... he was belligerent, he urinated on the floor.. tore down a sign and tried to leave when confronted by security guards.. a security guard then pointed a gun at him.....

The security guards also stated that because the Americans were belligerent and so big they felt threatened...

I am willing to say Lochte does not deserve to be crucified but I think the Brazilians in question behaved in a completely acceptable manner...

We don't know exactly why money was handed over.. what if the Americans seeked to pay in order not to have the police show up? We just don't know... The only facts everyone agrees on are Lochte:

- urinated on floor
- tore down sign
- acted belligerent
- made up a lie and then doubled down on it

Hard to take the side of Lochte on this one.....even forgetting that he made up a bogus story... .

BUT that doesn't mean he should be crucified..  like I said he didn't kill anyone....
