Title: Crowdsourcing: Portable Speaker for Tailgating -- Suggestions Needed
Post by: rich_WDC on September 28, 2016, 05:25:33 pm
Seeking solid speaker for outdoor use, with
*Bluetooth
*Connectivity for 3.5 plug too
*Decent charge for battery life
*Solid sound, as best as can be for an outdoor portable speaker

$200-250 range is OK.

Any tips?

I'm no audiophile...but I've been very happy with this

House of Marley Get Together Portable Bluetooth Speaker

I think it looks pretty sharp too

Define portable.

In your pocket?  On a bike?  In the back of a truck?

Being a tailgater myself, I prefer volume over audiophile quality. It's hard to hear a quiet unit with all the peripheral noise. It's gotta crank and absorb beers and bumping.

I had a Bose speaker but it's shot. I think I may look into a cheap, portable guitar amp.

I cannot recommend this (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00SNBCBGE/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1475112659&sr=8-7&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=portable+speaker&dpPl=1&dpID=510aFdIDXiL&ref=plSrch) enough.

A friend of a friend had this and I was blown away. Super loud, crisp sound, and battery life like you couldn't believe. Could run a block party off this easily and the people at the end of the block would be jamming.

I bought one of these after seeing one once and have been delighted. Don't let the ridiculously low price fool you; this is an amazing value.

Zebra still tours? Better put them on the bucket list.

Was actually looking at this. By all accounts it lacks bass but sounds nice. Can't beat the price, either.

The Bose Soundlink 3 is slightly above your range, but sounds very good at higher volumes and has a long battery life.

There's a version with wheels for like $30 more if that's worth it to you.

Thanks for the advice.   Good to know about the ION one which looked totally cheesy to me but now I'll take another look.
Am also looking at Oontz (by Cambridge Soundworks) and JBLs.

For portable:  not pocket or needing to transport by hand/bike/backpack necessarily.   Maybe small boombox size.

For ZEBRA:  Yep, they still play around.   Barely 10 shows a years so no real "tour"...

I have the OONTZ Angle in my shower and love it. I'm sure the XL would be just as good.

I love my little JBL but I only use it indoors, mostly for talk radio.  Music goes to the Sonos.

I use Sonos in my house as well, but the ion for the deck or picnics or that sort of stuff since Sonos doesn't have a battery-powered model for outside.

I'd recommend a play 1 or 3 that you can plug into outside power that connects to your wifi, brah.

I don't have outside power, brah. And even if I did it wouldn't fill the gap for when I need the ability to play music off my premises. Looked at a portable battery pack and a VPN and honestly it would've been more costly and time consuming than buying what I did and plugging in my phone the 3-4 times a year I'll use it.

I guess you don't have the quality standards I assumed you had.

Went by Walmart and picked up the Ion. Same price as Amazon and I can put it to use Saturday.

It is kinda blah looking but who cares. Didn't get to demo one, unfortunately.
