Title: David Bowie - Low ; 40 years old today!
Post by: hutch on January 15, 2017, 10:24:42 am
amazing album..still sounds fresh 40 years later.. I do still prefer the A-side but its interesting that so many musicians were more influenced by the instrumental more ambient B-side....One you hardly ever see in the shops.. I think in the US it sold less than 100,000 copies..I think the cover art is from a still from the movie The Man Who Fell to Earth.. I have a cheap paperback book of the movie which has the same cover..

my favorite song from Low is Sound and Vision....those synths....New Order used them to great effect a few years later on Power Corruption and Lies....

popping bass by George Murray on it.. never realized Mary Visconti is the female voice on it..much better known as Mary Hopkin (recorded a few albums for Apple Records)...

really the Murray/Davis rhythm section is just fabulous on this one....

important to note that the same core group recorded Iggy's The Idiot in July-August 1976 went on to do Low in September-October....

I have the 1980 reissue in pretty darn good condition. It's pretty freakin' amazing. My favorite tune is "Be My Wife".
