So excited for Holy Fuck's new album  "Deleter"!!!!!!!!   After I saw them open for that band that likes strobe lights, I fell hard in love.  I want to marry them . . . or at least have sex with the drummer.

although I'm a little more interested now...kinda a dark topic to take on

The Detroit rapper's new music video for “Darkness,” one of the album's 20 tracks, depicts a shooting at a concert. The lyrics and storyline of the video specifically allude to the 2017 mass shooting at a music festival in Las Vegas that left 58 people dead, making it the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. It closes with audio and video footage of news broadcasts from other recent mass shooting around the U.S. and an appeal to register to vote.

-The Chats - Australian "shed-rock"  band - Played DC last summer-playing Fillmore SS in May- Smoko is their break-out single from last year or so
-The Wants - side band of members of Bodega.  Bodega is a Brooklyn band that sound somewhat like Parquet Courts.  The Wants have a new wave-dance band vibe.  They are both playing at DC9 in March-late show.
-Shame- "post-punk" band from London; played Black Cat earlier in the year.  Awesome in concert; great 1st album- Songs of Praise

The Wants 1st album in March 2020
New Shame album should be coming in 2020

New Cornershop due March 6th called England is a Garden

Second single from the album  'St Marie Under Canon' is an addictive ear worm - over that glam stomping rhythm sits some Stax style Hammond melodies...

The new Cornershop album is brilliant!  I’m digging it’s glam rock stompers, 60s psychedelic keyboards and flute jams.

Think my favorite track is Everywhere That Wog Army Roam due to its Jimmy Cliff\Harder they come vibe.

And don’t expect a US tour as they aren’t even touring the UK anymore...

I heard from more than one source that Tejinder was a complete jerk when they toured around 2000

Nevertheless I was excited about finally seeing them

But they cancelled...I don’t know if it was trouble getting a Visa or low sales...

I snagged this poster from the club

I still listen to When I Was Born for the 7th Time on a regular basis
the song that always gets me is 'its good to be back on the road back home again'
I remember catching them back in the 90s at the club and loving the show, but at the time wasn't a huge fan
in the last decade, I keep going back
I really wish they'd tour

The Clinton album should have been released as a Cornershop record and the Handcream record could have come out a bit earlier...there was just a huge loss of momentum after the I was born for the album....like a virtual textbook case on how to kill a career...

I love Handcream the most of their records but feel like hardly anyone gave it a chance because of the huge amount of time from Brimful of Asha era

A couple of years ago I found a cd of the Clinton record for $1...signed by Tjinder!!

I also love Handcream.  They were great at the club on the Handcream tour, starting and closing the show with Heavy Soup.  I also saw them at the University of London Union in March 1998 with Les Rythmes Digitales opening up.  I was surprised at the time it did not sell out right away.  Although, they played two nights in a row there.  Oh to be that young again.

Thievery Corporation’s Eric Hilton Shares First-Ever Solo Song ‘Infinite Everywhere’
Debut solo album of the same name is out June 19

After 25 years, Eric Hilton will be releasing his first solo album.

Titled "Infinite Everywhere", the Thievery Corporation co-founder has been known as half of the duo behind lounge-friendly beats, but this record will showcase his vast skills as a multi-instrumentalist.

I know a lot of people really into them

Some drove to philly to see them

Did they open for Lorde at Anthem?

that's so narc... "why hello, fellow youngsters!  i'm told that this is the joint to find fellow hip hop rap aficionados!  and while we're at it, who has any devil's lettuce?"

not being into hip hop is fine, it's personal taste... what i was giving you a ribbing about was your use of "hip hop rap" ;D

Probably should go in the re-issue thread, but not fussed to find it at the moment...

Love me some Prince but the latest re-issue for Sign Of The Times is 8 CDs + 1 DVD going for $160  :o.... I'm sure the book that's coming with is probably spectacular, which they would release it standalone... Not sure I need to own three CDs full of unreleased tracks

Yeah as much as I like prince and that period I think $50 would be Max I would pay

Box sets kind of just sit there...very few do more

The vinyl version for that SOTT release is $300 and they are doing a 7" single collection for a mere $100

and yeah my interest in boxsets is waning would probably only listen to those tracks only a couple times  and will be able to do that via a streaming service when it comes out.

So the new Cee-Lo Green album CeeLo Green Is Thomas Callaway is shaping up to be a keeper.. Clearly Dan Auerbach has mastered a very specific sound which is both retro and modern at the same time.  This record has similarities to the Yola record from last year, hints of country and soul effortlessly blended together.  And as I suspected several Muscle Shoals sessions musicians are on this record.

technically not out yet (about 4 singles have been released)
Down in the Weeds Where the World Once Was - Bright eyes (August 21st)

Rina Sawayama -  Sawayama

other than that, not heard much new stuff I like.  would love to hear some suggestions (giving strokes and Jessie another try)

Cornershop is up there but the Fiona Apple and Pheobe Bridgers albums are so good I don’t know how there’s time to discuss anything else.

The majority of the good music getting made today is by women . . . for about the 7th year in a row.

I think Tricky’s albums continue to be incredible

His last one for example is really good...just listened to it two nights ago and loved it..so is False Idols...not sure what people want or expect?

Which are the flops in your opinion

I haven’t heard Skilled Mechanics but don’t really consider it a Tricky album

It was the one before that where he had visa problems.  Only time I actually got to see Tricky live he walked out after 5 songs because it wasn't dark enough.

Flop was maybe too strong a word, but I don't think I've loved any of his albums since Angels with Dirty Faces.  Knowle West Boy, ununiform, Mixed Race, were all ok for me but I don't listen to them on repeat like I do the first three and Nearly God. And admittedly, I think Maxinquaye is my favorite of the trip hop albums so it's pretty hard to keep that standard up.

Wow you should listen some more!

False Idols is fantastic...better than anything after the first three

I feel like he can’t win...people only seem to have room for so much Tricky

I love the Doll Parts cover on the last one but turn out the lights, play it late at night when you are by yourself and tell me the whole thing isn’t great

Anyways just my own opinion

I got my Cornershop about a week ago

I got to say a 48 minute record on two LPs is most unfortunate... they should have trimmed the last song a few minutes and stuck it on one platter or added at least three songs and kept it a double...or just stuck the whole thing on one LP..not ideal sonically but wouldn’t suffer that much! It’s been done many times..When I listen to an album I don’t want to get up every ten minutes to turn it over!

Otherwise great...not only did Tjinder sign a card but he even signed the cardboard flat to protect the record (I almost threw it out or reused it)

People say order from artists and in this case I had to do that but I paid $10 more and it took three weeks to get it (Amazon would have been three days)

Tjinder has an amazing streak going..not that many artists can put out five records in a row I dearly love even if it’s been 23 years

When I was born for the 7th time
The Clinton record
Handcream
Judy
This new one

It is funny to me how post BOCC, Pheobe inherited the trademark "Bright Eyes horn parts". It was such a stereotypical thing he did and now its on like three songs on her newest and mixed so close to the front on the closing track.

My favorite thing about Punisher

PreOrdered the vinyl of King Khan and the Infinite
releases October 30, 2020
(https://f4.bcbits.com/img/a1387239646_16.jpg)

Soulful garage rocker King Khan is getting into jazz and will release new album The Inifite Ones on October 30 via Ernest Jenning Record Co. The album features Sun Ra Arkestra's Marshall Allen and Knoel Scott, and Calexico's John Convertino and Martin Wenk. You can still tell it's a King Khan record, though, on the skronky and groovy "Wait Till the Stars Burn." (http://khannibalism.bandcamp.com/album/the-infinite-ones-2)

As has been the case for decades of new Springsteen this does nothing for me...

Probably the only thing I really like on it is the sound of Roy Bittan’s piano and maybe maybe Max’s drumming a bit...just cause they remind me of better days

The song has no real hook

It’s been almost 20 years since Midnight Oil unveiled a new longform release. That wait will finally be over on October 30 when their seven song mini-album, THE MAKARRATA PROJECT

Their show at the Fillmore a few years ago was outstanding.  I still can't believe I couldn't give a free ticket away to that

I saw your post and decided to guess who you were referring to before going back a page.

So many to choose from. Guy from the Mountain Goats? Guy from Built to Spill? Guns N Roses? Rush?

All good guesses, I must admit. Then I scrolled back. And indeed, I do agree. He does have a repulsive voice.

Switching gears to something other than all day SOTT, I'm checking out Bette Smith - The Good, The Bad and The Bette which based on the cover art said hey this might something you'd be interested in... and yup some raucous soulful blues that's sounding pretty good... did a quick google and found it's produced by DBT Mike Patton and has appearance by Patterson Hood
