I think the decade is ending....what are your absolute favorites that were released 2010-2019? Albums that you consider classics and recommend for those that might have missed them
I will try to come up with a few...
-
Wait. Did ZZ Top release an album in the teens?
-
Ok I start...I spent most of the decade listening to older music but there were some I really loved
Mudcrutch 2
Underworld - Barbara
Phoenix - Ti Amo
Arctic Monkeys- the last one
Beck - morning phase
David Lowery - the palace guards
Lucinda Williams- Ghosts of highway 20
Leonard Cohen - You want it darker
Yo la tengo - There’s a riot
Nick Cave - Push the sky away
Andres Calamaro - Bohemio
New Order - Complete
Dr John - Locked down
Daft Punk - RAM
Pet Shop Boys - Electric
Babasonicos- A proposito
King Gizzard - Nonagon
LCD Soundsystem - This is
I think Leonard Cohen’s is probably the best new thing I heard this decade...
-
A few that are really good but don’t quite get in
War on drugs - lost
Vampire weekend- modern
Dylan - Tempest
Iris Dement - sings delta
North Mississippi all stars - world boogie
Lucinda - Down where
Rhcp- getaway
-
This thread shall reinforce my argument for "best of" lists.
The true litmus test for best of is if you're still listening to an album years later and not just that year. This may take a while but there are prob. very few albums from 2010 until now that I listen to on a regular basis. BRB.
-
Well my criteria was exactly that: have I gone back years later and still really enjoyed it?
That is also why there are less albums from the second half of the decade since there hasn’t been enough time
What I don’t want is a kill sally style list of 500 albums I enjoyed once
-
Worth considering:
Gangnam Style
Pen Pineapple Apple Pen
Old Town Road
Baby Shark
Cotton Eye Joe (Dance Remix)

I have to say not including D’angelo on my own list was an omission
-
Acclaimed music which is an aggregator but seems to have stopped in 2018

Protomartyr - No Passion All Technique
Kendrick Lamar - DAMN
Danny Brown - Old
Death Grips - Exmilitary
Parquet Courts - Light Up Gold
Wormrot - Dirge
Wake - Misery Rites
Angel Olsen - My Woman
Double Negative - Daydream Nation
Killing joke - Absolute Dissent

I'm legitimately stunned its that high, even if you take away the TSwifties.

Respectable Space! How many library buys approximately?
-
I'm utterly shocked that Space still buys CDs when he could be contributing to his 401k or his child's 529.

For $9.99 a month, you'd never have to buy a CD again.

What is a reasonable list length? I have 43 artists, some with multiple albums.
That's like a kilsaly list, except with band you've heard of.
Need to whittle it down some....
-
I so bad want to post in this thread, but the album which affected my life the most, in such a profound way . . . came out in 1999. boo!

For you we can make an exception...

This, is the album, that changed my everything. As when, I was first introduced to the Dead Kennedys back in 1985, this band and this one particular album . . . proved to me that music can change your life.
-
I feel the same way about the new Heilung album, but I’ll wait to expound on that until the thread for the 2010s
Edit: oh wait, this is that thread!!

Women played a big role this decade for me

Whitney - light upon the lake
Big Thief - Capacity
A giant dog - Toy

Frank Turner - Tape Deck Heart

Superorganism -Superorganism
Mowgli's - Waiting for the dawn
Houndmouth - little neon limelight

David Bowie - Blackstar
Except for LDR and Girls (who had already broken up) I'd seen all of these artist's live multiple times in this decade
Of my concerts in the decade, there was a really high nostalgia rock quotient, but feel I kept up a little with the youth of today
-
I like Lana del ray’s one that came after born
-
Meta critic has Ghosteen as #1

vice just put out their list
https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/qvg5j3/the-100-best-albums-of-the-2010s
have to say...I sometimes feel I'm intouch with the music scene
I think I've only listened to less than 5% of this list and close to 2/3rds I'd never even heard of
Its a weird decade for music
I'm curious how we'll look back in 20 years
