To me the run from Permanent Waves to Power Windows is exemplary

so what other bands have had awesome runs?

I would discard the Yellow Submarine soundtrack and run the Beatles thru Abbey Road.
I'd also start Radiohead with "the Bends".

I'll add:

The first 5 or 6 Black Sabbath albums
Replacements "Let it Be" thru "Pleased to Meet Me"
REM's "Murmur" to "Life's Rich Pageant" ( I don't care for much of anything that followed but some may disagree).

Rolling Stones - Beggars Banquet to Exile is one of my favorites

Ween - Chocolate and Cheese to White Pepper is another

New Order - Power lies and corruption to Technique is another

Lately Bowie - Station to Station through Scary Monsters

This is arguably the best four album run of all time.

Edit: 5 if you count live LPs which I absolutely do not.

No one has said Spoon from Series of Sneaks to Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga yet? Throw it in the mix.

Dude, every fucking Ween album rules. It didn't start with Chocolate and Cheese.  It started with God Ween Satan.  Fuck, Pure Gauva blows away Chocolate and Cheese. Out of the fucking water.  If you think Ween got good at Chocolate and Cheese, then you sir, are not a fan.

The, end.

Cool topic!

AEROSMITH released four solid albums in four years 73-76.    DrawTheLine would make it five in five , also.

THE CULT - Love, Electric, Sonic Temple

Eno in the 70s was virtually untouchable

If you add the production work, the side projects (Eno Moebius Rodelius), the first Roxy Music, his four classic records for Island, Music for Airports, etc

Just incredible

Try to map out his work schedule 1977-1978... jaw dropping

The first 5 or 6 Black Sabbath albums

i'd say first 5.  "sabotage" has its moments, but it was the start of their decline.

aside: i'm aware that "never say die" is/was widely panned, but i have a soft spot for it. i stumbled across the vinyl when i was about 13 or 14 and it left quite a mark on me... i knew very little of who/what black sabbath was at the time, so the album didn't clash with any preconceived notions of what a black sabbath album should sounds like.  "johnny blade" and "junior's eyes" still hold up, IMO.

Love those 2 and the title track. Pretty much it tho. I think it’s a better album than most give credit to.

And I agree on “Sabotage”. Some great stuff but not quite on par with the ones that came before it.

Definitely Sabbath had a great run...

Master of reality and Vol. 4 are my favorites
