Title: The Biden / Harris thread
Post by: ye-ole-hatch ıll|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|̲̅̅=̲̅̅|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|llıl on January 08, 2021, 03:23:20 pm
God, I so look forward not talking about cheto

So just heard Biden say he was pretty darn close to picking Bernie
but Bernie told him, losing the senate seat and control of the senate would do more damage than good he could by leading the DOL

UNIONS also are getting a nice shout out!

I have a feeling we'll be talking more about the Cheeto over the next several months than Biden/Harris.

so there really isn't a DNC thread...
Jaime Harrison is the new chair of the DNC.

seems like this should have been Stacey's job, seems like an odd pick since he hasn't been heard from since he lost to lindsay
welp...seems like he knows where they keep the paper clips at the DNC
Harrison is a current associate chair and senior counselor at the DNC

I wonder what in normal times with no pandemic or armed nutjobs running around, what attendance at Biden\Harris inauguration would have been  doubtful it would have been the levels of Obama's, but definitely better than 45**   Regardless, it would probably be significant with lots of happy people.. and you know the events at Anthem, etc would have been boffo

a D prez is always going to have bigger innauguration crowds than an R, due to the proximity of DC, MD and NoVA.  there will always be plenty of folks who will drive/fly in from outta town for either side, but the blues have the benefit of being able to sprinkle some locals on top of the out-of-towners.  lucky geography/demographics.

The New Radicals will reunite for the first time in 22 years to perform "You Get What You Give" during Biden inauguration virtual parade

Long-dormant band will perform 1998 hit “You Get What You Give” – Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff’s walk-on music during presidential campaign – to close out “Parade Across America” event

Wow I had no idea about the song having a connection with Biden..I never read the book although I saw Joe talking about it at the Anthem

I thought they were never a real band so this seems a bit idiotic

It’s not a Beatles reunion!

But cool story and whatever cheers people up

It's a better name than Khaleesi and hopefully the finale will be more satisfying to revisit than GoT.

There is definitely a ton of digging out to do in year one but there’s an adult back in the room who is actually interested in doing the job of being the President — and that’s going to make a huge difference. Problems will continue to exist tomorrow but it’s perfect fine to be optimistic and see this as an inflection point.

I feel so much better today.

Getting Trump out of the White House was the key.. and not at all a sure thing

I am skeptical what would have happened if the events of January 6 hadn’t taken place

The much maligned McConnell helped preserve the republic... what would have happened if Mitch had sided with the traitors and refused to reconvene the senate to certify results?

I'm am skeptical what would've happened had Covid not occurred. I'm afraid to say that I think Trump would've hands down won had covid not ravaged this country... Additionally, the African American turn out in key states obviously helped as well. I guess it was the perfect storm of shit.

That’s true all other things being equal
Without covid Trump would have been re-elected

but Trump winning was not necessarily the same thing as turning America into a dictatorship...if Trump had won he would have continued to maintain the form or appearance of democracy... he would have had no reason not to

But Trump losing and McConnell joining other Republicans and refusing to certify would have created a scenario I can’t even map out....

Good for that guy.

I love all of this "vetting" that is all of a sudden happening regarding the 25k National Guardsmen that are in DC... What a crock of shit. It's a bit disheartening to think that there is undoubtedly Magat's holding machine guns (both cops and military) today within spitting distance of the new admin.

We know for a fact there are elements in the military that support Trump and large elements in police forces...

Often coup attempts are led by a small military unit under the command of a fairly lowly ranked officer.. not the commanding general!!

it wasn't the mere appearance of the coronavirus that sank trump's chances - it was the pandemic PLUS the botched response.  if trump had actually addressed and managed the pandemic, had he followed the science and promoted truth instead of fantasies - he would have been reelected.  thanks to his denialism and conspiracy theories, he turned away a good chunk of swing voters.

Biden signs several directives on first day, including mask mandate on federal property and rejoining Paris climate accord (https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/biden-trump-orders-masks/2021/01/20/7b6a1bec-5a98-11eb-b8bd-ee36b1cd18bf_story.html) (WaPo)

We do still have to contend with that impeachment question...Pelosi will send the articles to the Senate tomorrow. Trump still hasn't named a defense team, which may be a strategy to couch this as an unfair trial.

A guilty verdict
never going to happen...DC Statehood and ending the Filibuster are more likely than this

It’s totally different when he was president acting on my behalf, with my dollars and taking decisions that affected me and my family!! But even then the focus on his every tweet was way overdone... particularly given they were mostly lies and he adopted multiple positions on the same issue.

To each their own but this constant focus on Trump is an illness...and it’s counterproductive. It is not even good citizenship whatever people want to convince themselves of...

It is not even good citizenship whatever people want to convince themselves of...
It did feel like it tho...

the biggest issue was the 'shock and awe' volume of it, there were just so many abnormal things going on at once, it felt like if you didn't point it out, it would be missed

but he's just taking a breather...the people who should be worried are the GOP, he is going to badger them to no end to get his base to come to his tv network and join the patriot party
question is will the big donors go too

Do not forget the last global pandemic was followed by the ROARING 20's!*

*I highly recommend you not look at what happened in the decade after the 1920's.

I think this is great:
President Biden wants to replace the government's fleet of almost 650,000 vehicles with all-electric vehicles produced in the United States,

Go Dick, Go Dick!
Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said Tuesday that Democrats can use a special process known as budget reconciliation to increase the minimum wage to President Biden’s proposed target of $15 an hour without any Republican votes.

a stupid quote.  throwing Manchen and Sinema under the bus like that isn't going to help his cause(s).

I kinda felt the same way, jilting them won't make them want to do anything (but they weren't anyway)
Maybe it was for the base so they had a little red meat even though in the end they will be eating soup with rocks in it for dinner

It was very off-brand for this presidency which has been marked by not slinging shit at both enemies and friends

I don’t know.... it’s called the stick

It achieves some objectives actually

It signals just what he says “I would like to do this but don’t have the votes...” and shifts blame from Biden to Manchin/Sinema

It signals Biden isn’t playing...this is a bit of a rebellion and if he ignores it he looks weak

It puts pressure on them... it may not get them to change but they may think twice on future votes and believe me they are going to hear it

Should we just ignore their not standing up for critical needs?

Sinema in particular is in danger of not being re-elected and can’t entirely ignore the base... she is likely to need every vote!

Sinema is acting a little bizarre actually

So I don’t agree with you guys! Your reading is just surface level

on the one hand, i'm all like "eff 'em". trump stuffed his cronies into a bunch of different places hoping to maintain his influence on policy.

on the other hand, every president nominates folks to serve in positions that outlast their administration, and it's tradition to let them serve out their terms... so it's not a great look for biden to be firing the same folks that other presidents haven't.

Oh boy

I don’t get why so many seem so bent on hating Manchin and Sinema… it’s so counterproductive… whether you hate them isn’t relevant and makes no difference… we need their votes

Why hasn’t Biden just cut deals with them? Why this constant standstill? What are we waiting for?

West Virginia is damn poor… why not cut a deal with Joe M to give him some cover (lots of $ for WVA would be rather insignificant in grand scheme of things) to vote for bill with as many dem priorities as possible ??

I mean WTF Biden understands politics, right? Cut the deal you can get.

The longer we essentially call these guys satan (it’s all over the web, emails from Democratic Party interest groups, etc) the higher the price for their votes. You think following Sinema into a bathroom and yelling at her helps?

Another rule of politics they seem to ignore: the longer you dilly dally the weaker your hand gets…

What is being gained here? If there is no way of getting their votes other than a smaller bill then pass a smaller bill!

This all makes democrats look like a bunch of losers that can’t even reach agreement on what they want!

couldn't agree more...wasting so many cycles on this is a MAGA dream as less other stuff will get focused on then it will be a break and another break and now it's 2022 elections and we lose all the power

I think they should just throw a few bil at both AZ and WV any and all pet projects they want

Hating them solves nothing, if we try to primary Joe...we're basicaly giving up a seat in the senate
Not so sure about Sinema, but I feel like she is still fairly popular with AZers

Was at the Wharf Monday night and there were a bunch of climate change protesters in front of the Yacht club (joes boat is there...media keeps making it like it's some lux liner...it's pretty mediocre and old...guess it kinda fits him)
