Title: Ticket Broker Shenanigans
Post by: kosmo vinyl on February 24, 2023, 01:58:14 pm
or more specifically Stubhub

Thanks to some ranting on part of David Lowery about a proposed bill in GA regarding ticket resellers, I'm now aware there is a similar bill somewhere in the MD legislative process as well.

While Lowery tends to take the firehose approach to such things... The major take away is that these bills would supposedly limit fees added by artist, venues, etc, then restrict to only authorized re-sellers the ability to re-sell tickets.  whose fees and prices of course wouldn't be regulated.

He points out the NY fell for this rouse and the ticketing market there is a fiasco

Also, the group behind this, Fan Freedom, appears to be a total astroturfing project

The only other thing I saw on this so far is an Rolling Stone story which has this about the legislation in GA, MD and a couple others.

Live Nation has pointed out that "if passed it would prevent artists from limiting transferability of their tickets to resale. (Such legislation protects the scalpers and their ability to make profits"

No clue as to where in the process the MD legislation is, hopefully it dies in committee somewhere...

oh mr lowrey, always on the soap box
although he 100% has a point, he has become the old man shouting at the cloud these days

I do like he has a physical NFT.  Signed. Numbered. Not on streaming services

A blind squirrel finds a nut from time to time but he’s a thoroughly annoying Twitter follow.

The GA Stubhub bill was tabled in committee, guess I need to see what happened to MD version.
