a place to concentrate our chatter about the upcoming tour, St. Robert's quest against ticket fees, being a middle-aged former goth, etc.
The Cure opens North American tour with hits, new songs, huge rarities — setlist and video (https://www.slicingupeyeballs.com/2023/05/10/the-cure-new-orleans-setlist-video/)

The Kiss is one of my favorite deep cuts (first track of KMKMKM)
I just recently came across this
The Kiss (RS Home Demo 3/86) (Instrumental) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsnVk8LU3Bs)
it doesn't hold up to the blazing guitar on the original but it was interesting to hear the origin
https://youtu.be/WTNKsVWz9rA
they have been known to break it out, but somewhat rare
thankfully Charlotte Sometimes ->Push seems to be permanently added to the set list and I couldn't be more happy
we also seem to be getting one deep cut that hasn't been on the set lists for a while
-
Anyone else excited also about the opener?
Never heard of Twilight Sad before but they sound purrty good....
Anyway.... I need plainsong, doing the unstuck, forest, fire in Cairo, and fascination street.
We'll see.
-
Should we propose a meetup nobody will make?
-
Somebody make a " Friends of Kosmo Vinyl" sign!

I like them on record but they kinda bored me to death this past Thursday at MSG. Maybe the anticipation for The Cure was very high.

parking is free, but they are 'selling' tickets
does this mean if you show up at one of those parking lots and don't have a ticketmaste 'ticket' they will turn you away?

also longtime boardies Lilly1 and K8T

Still in need of 1 please.
I’ve been beat out at least 60 times trying for a resale on Ticketmaster. Like it’s in the basket and poof a message that someone got my basket.
I’m gonna be one of those people at a formal event this afternoon looking like an asshole as I’m on my phone the whole time as I refresh Ticketmaster’s site.
-
Ok let’s meet at 6:45 at 932!!!
See you guys soon
-
seen some decent pavilion singles show up today

Good luck getting to the end of the buying process. And now TM thinks I'm a bot. Guess that happens when you refresh 1000 times.
-
I feel somewhat better I’m not the only one that’s having challenges with Ticketmaster.
I may just throw in the towel and go see Baby Rose at the Howard tonight instead.
-
Outside box office waiting on Tiffiny..will be late to meet

have a “decent” sky lawn spot and can’t even see the monitors let alone the stage
Unless you get the railings you can’t see shit
The twilight sad Does sound good though
Was at 9:32 around 6:20 and there were zero lines (although weak beer selection)
Seeing tons of empty pav seats, but we are an hour before the cure hits the stage
They must make more on their merch than tickets
-
Ok night saved, made a power move to get a small bit obit I could throw my blanket on and now can se the stage
Also WTF with the dc airports tonight, SO got grounded on a flight from Orlando to dc in Charlotte
Pilot was like “umm we have radio silence from all dc airports and we ar landing out of caution “
!!!!

I got in and am over in section 201. No thanks to fucking Ticketmaster. Even calls to them were useless. Fuckers.
Big thanks to people at a restaurant in Columbia that sold me their extra. All of us in dining room were going to the show. .
Sorry to miss you guys at 932 but I didn’t get in until 7 and wanted to check out opener. Which I like. I see a 930 date this fall…
Looking forward to the show dissection tomorrow 😆😆😆😆

Funny there is a Cured (meats )restaurant where I parked
I bumped it to people ask if they were getting on the right elevator
Them: we are going to cured
Me: this is the right one mpp is right over there
Them: no the restaurant cured, we are going to the show after
Me with the dad joke: oh so you are going to get cured first and second
-
Never seen lawn so crowded. Instead of taking spot BEHIND the back fence grabbed a spot near IMP tent. Can't see stage but closer to the action. Also stopped by 9:32 didn't see anyone familiar (I don't know what any of you look like), I left

Ok we had the meet up. Thanks to all attendees

This extends down the coast. Richmond and Raleigh also have/had ground holds. My flight got bumped to tomorrow. It’s a radar system that’s out.

I am far today but show is just awesome
Of course the Cure is probably my second favorite band ever after New Order and they beat them one month a year. It makes me happy that they are so popular now
Sound is tight
-
Reeves Gabrels Is in the band!
Felt that wailing guitar was off in Charlotte sometimes
But was wailing most of the night
-
Yeah ugh they haven’t played Charlotte Sometimes
-
Great show… lots of songs I didn’t know
What the heck is Omar coming?

Is this a “local” reference to the wire??
-
Probably a reference to the Wire; who knew Robert was a fan.
He sure did have fun on stage last night. I don't think I've actually seen him smile before.
Solid show, solid set, amazing lights and graphics, top notch professionalism and performance from him and the rest of the band. Excellent example of what a large classic outdoor summer concert should be. It's been a long time since I've experienced that; Wolftrap is always so much more pared down from a set and lighting design perspective.
I'd give the show an 8/10. I deduct .5 point as I was hoping for another deep cut and another 20 minutes. Philly got 3 hours and we got 2 hours 40 minutes; there was time for them to do another 2 songs before they hit the 11pm venue curfew.
I deducted another 1.5 points because Ticketmaster can go fuck themselves. That was a debacle no fan should go through. And my inner conspiracy theorist thinks it was retaliation for Robert taking them on this Spring. I had to call both my credit card and Ticketmaster to see what was going on. Nothing off with my card and Ticketmaster said my account was fine and it was my card's fault. Yeah, sure, I had already used the card twice that day. In fact, Ticketmaster said I see tickets for sale right now Ma'am, why don't you try again on both the browser and app to which I replied that's what I've done already and I get the same message. Oh he responds, well, everything is fine with your account Ma'am. They changed policy and won't do phone so even though he saw tickets for sale, he couldn't process the sale. Another hour of trying. I'm already in Columbia so I stop for dinner and another hour of trying for a ticket with the same stupid messages online. In a lovely change of events, a group dining at the same restaurant had an extra which I overhear from a distance as I'm on other side of dining room. I yell across that I'll buy it and rush over to introduce myself and get a venmo address to pay them on the spot. They were just going to eat the ticket! (pun intended). So all worked out in the end and yet another wonderful example of good concert ticket karma.

Wow
glad to hear your efforts paid off

Good story lily... also, the "curfew" is false.
-
They're not doing 3 hours anywhere....the closest was NYC 3rd night with 31 songs - 2 hr 50 min.
I wish they did something from Pornography or Faith.
-
They did the same amount of songs in Philly and DC: 29.
7 years ago at merriweather they did 32…factor in 5 new songs (that people are unfamiliar with) and that means 8 less slots for deep cuts/classics on this tour. That’s a big difference. I can’t knock them for playing new music but only one of the new songs gave me anything to grab onto.
Having said all that, we got SEVEN songs from Disintegration including Prayers of Rain which I adore!! And the song Disintegration which was incredible. We got a set list very heavy on disintegration. And Fascination Street has only been played at 6 of 31 shows this tour. To me that’s a crowd pleasing set list . First show in 31 to get seven…numbers have varied from 3-6.
Now what does this all mean ..if you add the new as yet unreleased songs, from the edge of the deep green sea, 3 from seventeen seconds (an album that has been critically reappraised the last 10-15 years) and SEVEN from disintegration it means more than half of set were darker, slower more droning less pop songs accounting for probably two thirds of concert time…the other songs like the walk, just like heaven, in between days, boys, the walk, Friday were knocked out quickly and all in the end! There are pros and cons to this approach..we got the up wow bang finish but at same time first two thirds of show were more lumbering drony long songs
The Walk was fantastic
I don’t understand what was going on with the big screens but assume it’s the way the band wanted it.
I couldn’t make out what Robert Smith was saying between songs.
We did not find Robert Smith at the Lakehouse Hotel earlier today….don’t think he stayed there..oh well
Merriweather was so nice last night.
-
I wasn't able to secure tickets for the show for myself when they originally went on sale (never got selected to even purchase tickets) - but a friend had extra tickets, so i was able to go into the venue with them.....however that meant I was on their schedule - and they switched tickets around to have pavilion seats, so weren't sussed about getting there early....so anyway I HATE the lawn at Merriweather..might as well go home and watch recordings on youtube lol. also, the video screens for the lawn were pretty terrible..wide angle showing the entire band - about half the screen taken up by Roberts monitors and lighting. They switched to show the drummer 3 times...but never got to see Simon, Gabrielle, etc (it seemed like the screens inside the pavilion switched it up quite a bit, but they were hard to see from the lawn)
the cure sounded fantastic though, so i guess there is that. for the most part, i don't think i would ever get lawn seats at Merriweather..i made an exception for the cure, since it was the only thing i could get

I have it on good authority he's a HILTON HONORS guy.
-
He was not at the Hampton Inn we stayed at either….
Didn’t run into him at Grotto’s
-
Anyone else see one of the road crew walking a teeny tiny dog around what would be stage left?
Why did they close access to the pit? There were legit pit ticket holders that were told they had to go elsewhere and staff were holding up signs that the section was closed. Did they oversell the section? Or was it just too damn hot to safely smush more folks in?
-
They have champagne at 932 and other places at MPP. Much enjoyed that…
I watched some of my videos from last night…boy was the sound great… I feel like the sound at shows I go to lately has been really good…anyways I was reminded that Friday I’m in love got the biggest reaction and most singing along.
Playing In Between Days/Just like heaven back to back was sick. Tiffiny’s complaint is they didn’t intersperse the pop tunes during the whole show and instead played them all at the end.
Every set list approach is going to have its pluses and minuses.

And they did it while keeping ticket prices reasonable relative to other comparable acts.
