Is that where WHFS moved to?  Did they do that Hootie and the Blowfish concert at the 9:30 this year?

interesting to think that a classical station is more profitable than a "modern music" station, guess  some people out there actually listen to terristeral radio for free to hear what they crave.

My fav. was Sunday night's show, hosted by Jenny Chase, called Capitol Scene.  She showcased local musicians and bands, and raised a lot of money for Ronald McDonald House and Katrina Relief.

No other local stations, in my memory, gave airtime to unsigned band's demo CDs...I'm sad about their demise.  Even if the hipsters didn't stoop to listen to 'em, losing another choice ain't good for anyone.

On yet another frequency, Kenneth:

Washington Post to Launch Radio Station (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060104/ap_on_bi_ge/washington_post_radio)

Washington Post Co. said Wednesday it is launching a new radio news station that will begin broadcasting in the nation's capital in March, saying the move could boost interest in its flagship newspaper.

The company is creating Washington Post Radio in an agreement with Bonneville International Corp., a Salt Lake City-based media firm that owns radio stations around the United States. The new channel will broadcast locally and feature staff from the newspaper.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for The Washington Post to encourage the radio audience to read more of the newspaper," said Boisfeuillet Jones Jr., publisher of the Washington Post, in a statement. The Post's circulation â?? like that of many other papers â?? has been on the decline in recent years.

Washington Post Radio will draw on content from the Post, with the paper's editors, reporters and columnists providing more context on their reporting. The station will also broadcast news and commentary from journalists and others outside the Post.

The new station will take over the 1500 AM spot that Bonneville's all-news station WTOP currently holds. While still on its old signal Wednesday, WTOP also began broadcasting on 103.5 FM. By late March, officials said that will be its main home.

This is not the first time WTOP and The Washington Post have been linked. The Post bought a partial interest in the station from CBS in 1949, then purchased the rest in 1954 and began the all-news format in 1969. The Post sold WTOP in 1978. Two owners later, Bonneville bought it in 1997.

The new Post station will also be heard on 107.7 FM from Warrenton, Va., which currently airs WTOP. WTOP will continue to broadcast on two weaker stations: 820 AM from Frederick, Md., and 104.3 FM from Leesburg, Va.

Shares of Washington Post Co. rose $7.90 to close at $793 Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange.

Could prove to be interesting but it certainly does absolutely nothing for us looking for music when stuck with terrestrial radio waves.

BTW, HFS is now on 105.7FM in Baltimore.

The loss of Z104 is almost meaningless to me, except that there is one less button to push when trapped in a car, out of CD's, and desperate to hear anything that's not extremely bad out of a very poor selection of choices.

So if I heard correctly WTOP is leaving 1500 AM.  That is just wrong.  I loved getting WTOP in Vermont.

I was expecting a standard top 40 list, and wasn't much suprised until I saw Let Go by Frou Frou. Then I officially damned the Garden State soundtrack.

The local show was cool, Jenni Chase who ran it definitely had her heart in a good place and really wanted to do something good for the bands around here.

 Too bad.
