anyone know yet?
-
Goldfinger, Foo Fighters, Cracker, Afghan Whigs, The Presidents of the United States of America, Garbage, Jewel, Gin Blossoms, Everclear, No Doubt, Lush, Jawbox, Gravity Kills, Fred Schneider, Girls Against Boys, Jimmie's Chicken Shack, Dishwalla, Guided By Voices, Solution A.D., Howlin' Maggie
-
and where'd you get this information from?
-
that was a pretty crappy one. GBV and fred schneider were awesome on the second stage, but not much else was good. was that when jewel got bonked with the frisbee?

It is set to be announced on April 3.

rumors have been saying Depeche Mode is confirmed
other bands mentioned have been The Strokes and REM I think.

the combo of those band could make it worth going to ... nice long DM set with a 30 minute Strokes "hits" fest and hopefully a tight REM set. REM of course having one killer group of support musicians....
-
but what about Kanye West and Matisyahu??? certainly at least ONE of them must be playing!!!!

That would be odd since they're playing a week earlier at Nissan.
-
yeah, i think D Mode is a sure no go.
also, if you are looking at whos NOT playing...check the lineup for sasquatch in seattle the same weekend, i would highly doubt anyone would be flying across the country just to play at HFStival.
-
does anyone else think Matisyahu sounds a bit like Adam Sandler?
-
why no go on dm... it's billed as the hfstival, not a dm show and the other show has been on sale for awhile... maybe seth convinced them not to be such corporate sellouts
-
How about the Pixies, Infusion, Bloc Party, and the Walls?
Kelly
-
Dave Matthews
-

i dont think it's depeche mode whom seth would have to convince.
plus, why would HFS want to book them? most DM fans already spent ticket money to see them....headliners are usually booked for their drawing power...DM doesnt seem to have much of that left after the Nissan show...not enough to be worthy of a headliner..
-
Jesus Jones?
-
I also have a hard time believing REM would be there. They don't really have anything to promote, do they?

James Blunt can be the Jewel of the show.
-
my guesses:
Artic Monkeys, We Are Scientists, The Stills, The Raconteurs, Editors
-
Bands that play the HFStival agree to not play in the Baltimore/DC area one month before and after the event...

i cant believe, with this crummy lineup, they are charging more than Coachella, Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza...unless you want nosebleeds...what a joke.
-
egads the warped tour is more interesting then this... and nosebleed seats = lawn
-
it's pretty bad when the only interesting artists are
1. The Riverboat Gamblers
2. The Fixx
3. The Strokes
-
This is the most LOL-worthy lineup ever. And at that price, they're going to sell all of 5000 tickets to each day.
-
no they'll sellout.. kayne and dashboard will pack 'em in... or has dashboard been gone so long that his fanbase wont care anymore.. also i suspect that the exodus after dashboard plays will be pretty noticeable
can you imagine what the soccer moms there for kayne will make of cypress hill?
-

Ok, Kanye I'll give you, but I do not see Dashboard fans paying $65+ to actually be able to see the stage when it's pretty obvious the band will be touring most of the year.
-

soccer moms listen to Kanye West?
what the hell are soccer mom, really?

soccer moms = middle class women who drive their "precious" children from activity to activity in their gas guzzling suvs and buy chart topping music at best buy...

Is stereotyping really a good idea? I've certainly gotten in trouble for that on this board. ;)

well, i would think most soccer moms would be between 27-35 right?
that would put them in high school when Cypress Hill came out. so i would imagine most soccer moms have heard of Cypress Hill :)
notice no one has actually posted the whole lineup yet?? lol.
-
thats because it's a graphic on the whfs2.com website and i'm not about to retype it and to lazy to find a text version...

who says were are a bunch of elistist pricks around here..... eros posted the lineup mere seconds before i did :D
-
That's only 32 out of 60 bands. Maybe they're just announcing the crappy ones first.
-
post of the week... :D
seeing as they haven't announced the artists locals stage it run the risk of getting worse :D
-

They do that every year. 8-9 local stage bands per day + 6-7 buzz ten artist will flesh out the rest of that 60. What you see (that sucks) is what you get.

Didn't they wait until later to announce the Cure a few years ago?

-
Originally posted by eros:

They dragged out the band announcements all week (like 3-4 per day) and the Cure was on the last day. Clearly they were not doing that format this year.
-
No, along with most everyone else here, I don't think the Cure are a crappy band. The comment just set itself up for a witty retort.

as an accomplished and experienced stereotyper, i've gotta call you out on this one ... soccer moms generally refer to upper-middle-class, over-protective, political moderates with socially conservative leanings, more like the tipper gore types who try to protect their children from monsters like kanye west ... and i'd guess the age would be more like 30-42 (most "soccer moms" are college educated, get their MRS degree, so i'm guessing have kids no earlier than 23-24)
i would assume that true soccer moms listen to crap like coldplay, michael buble, and james blunt ... but most importantly, they don't really care about music, it's just on as background sound and the filler in between those hilarious morning DJs ... maybe the more adventurous of them have discovered snow patrol or keane or other travis knockoffs
but definitely not kanye.
-
That's definitely a bad line up. I wonder if there was some other factor at play, such as a limited budget for booking bands, or Kayne demanding a high fee that ate up the budget for other bands. I hope they didn't intentionally set out to create this line-up.
-
point taken... i was admittly talking out my ass on that one
-
It's sad when the Chili Cookoff lineups blows the HFSestival away.
-
Here's the line-up, with more to be announced...
Saturday: Kanye West, Cypress Hill, Matisyahu, Rise Against, Panic! at the Disco, Matchbook Romance, Atmosphere, Jimmie's Chicken Shack, The Misfits, Rock Kills Kid, 2Cents, OK Go, and Cute Is What We Aim For.
Sunday: Counting Crows, Dashboard Confessional, Coheed and Cambria, The Strokes, Yellowcard, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, A.F.I., H.I.M., Boysetsfire, Blue October, Flyleaf, Augustana, People in Planes, The Fixx, Forty Acres, Love Arcade, Damone, Riverboat Gamblers, and Kill Hannah.
-
what the hell is the deal with jimmie's chicken shack? they've been around for what, 20 years? who the hell listens to them? is this a full-time job for these guys?

I actually don't mind JCS. They're definitely one of the lesser evils in the lineup.

do you think they play Kanye, Matisyahu and Atmosphere on HFS? I bet they havent played Counting Crows in a while either. and i cant think of the last time i heard a Misfits song on the radio...if ever!
is this lineup really representative to what they play on that station? Joan Jett?

but where do they play? what's their fanbase? i feel like they get dragged out every year for these festivals but i never see them on the bills of clubs around here
-
The line up might not be representative of the station's play list, but it is representative of some of the lesser acts in music.
(I acknowledge that the Strokes are not a lesser act, but I have no personal interest in seeing them)

jimi haha's "day job" is his band called the jarflys, i only know this because i know his guitar player who moonlights in a number of bands... i suspect jcs reunites to pay the rent
-
Way to expensive!
You'd think the show costs would be tremendously lower without renting and paying for all the vendors for a stadium and that would translate into a decent price.
I would've been shocked at a two-day pass that would be $100 but I would've paid it. But 146.00 or 216.00 pre svc chrgs is not fun.
-
Well you did mention something about attending a C&W festival in Chicago...

Doubtful, but Joan Jett IS from the area. So that's probably how she gets away with being asked to/playing that...
-
Wow, expensive tickets for a lineup that seems lacking to me. I'm bummed because I'd like to see Merriweather kick ass and take no prisoners all summer.
Though it's no better than the Cook-off in my estimation, at least the cookoff is only $30.
-
I think Joan Jett is on warped so she is probably on this because of that.
-
PS the Chili Cookoff lineup is TERRIBLE. At least HFStival has, like, three redeeming bands...
Actually, I'd love to go and see Ok Go, The Strokes, and Joan Jett. But I'd rather not pay that much to see any of these bands, when I can just see OK Go at the Black Cat, or wait and see Joan at Warped Tour. The Strokes I'm impartial about, don't want to see 'em really anywhere other than a club (if that ever happens). So I'd just rather not fuss with drunk, horny frat guys.
-
Just drive the extra hour to philly and go to jam on the river instead. $30 for secret machines and Ween beats $100 for counting crows and a bunch of other bands that will be forgotten in a matter of months.
-

I can't believe I'm saying this, but the Warped tour actually looks better than the HFStival this year. Ugh.
Is Joan definitely playing the Warped tour here? Pollstar doesn't show her playing any Warped dates, although I've seen press stating she'll be there. I know there are other bands on that tour only playing "selected dates" (like The Germs and The Buzzcocks). I'm wondering if she's playing everywhere.
-

Agreed. Warped tour usually is good about letting people know who is playing what date, but they don't have any indicators on the site. I definitely want to see Joan Jett and The Buzzcocks, but if neither are playing here, it's probably not worth it for me. Again though, because Joan is from this area, I would assume that at least she would be playing the Maryland shows.

so i guess the secret machines are no longer refusing to play outdoors shows because it "compromises their ambience"

Joan Jett apparently is playing the entire tour, not select dates.

if that was a dig on the Secret Machines....go to hell!!!
they played coachella last year...allbeit in a tent, and they are playing Lollapalooza.
on a better note..i just found out i will not have to buy an HFStival ticket as i will be working at Merriweather this year :)

I don't have to buy an HFStival ticket this year either but that has more to do with good taste then employment locale.

Nooo, not me - I don't quite get it either! For one reason or another, nearly every other Jewish being I know is obsessed with Matisyahu (including my friend who has always agreed with me on music 100%, and has impeccible taste). And I told him, "Dude. You don't have to like him just because we're Jewish...he sucks." And he didn't get it. So now, pretty much, we both don't get it. It's an endless cycle of confusion and bad music.

Alas, I didn't reference "The Wagon" in that thread, as Julian claimed. Though I did reference REO SpeedWAGON.

Well, I was half right. Still don't know why I was attributing that statement to you.

Are you a witch? I'm seriously asking.

Perhaps because I'm one of the few people on here ancient enough to remember when "Dinosaur Jr." was just called "Dinosaur".

Have you guys actually seen Joan Jett live? If you had, you sure wouldn't be getting so excited about seeing her again.
Really? I don't know whether she was having an off day when you saw her, but when I saw her, it was damn awesome. [/b]
I've only seen her once. I thought she sounded fine. Not good enough to put up with one of these festivals, but I'd be all over another club show.

that lineup + ticket price is a really, really good laugh.
if it were put up friday or saturday i would have thought it an april fool's joke.

Ha, yeah, I have -- opening for the Police in 1983. Can't remember if it was the JFK Stadium show in Philly or the Orange Bowl in Orlando. Aaahh, the days.

This lineup is a LOLer! :)
-
I saw her in 2000. Some festival in downtown DC. She was defintely washed up at that point. 1983 may have been a different story.

My girls don't play soccer, but I take them places, drive a Toyota Sequoia, and can't stand Kanye West. I wear Chucks and Dickies, and band shirts. I work backstage security at Nissan and I absolutely love the rock shows, Judas Priest last summer was the loudest show I have ever worked. OMG! I have a degree in Communications from Ohio State and how about that, someone got the age right that I had my first child. So I guess I'm not a soccer mom but...what the hell am I then? My daughters and I need to go so we can see P!ATD, OKGO, The Misfits, and Cute Is What We Aim For. It looks like they are trying to bring in the 14-22 age group to the Saturday show, along with us "soccer" moms.

The Bloodhound Gang alone is worth 40-50 bucks if it were at the 9:30 Club or Nation, then throw Better Than Ezra in and its a bargain.....too bad it's the Chili Cookoff though. Guess I'll find out when the Gang is playing and catch them outside the fences.
