I suppose that's valid.
But their 60's and 70's stuff is just great rock 'n roll.

Joe Cocker, Jefferson Starshit, and Boston are vying for my coveted 5th spot. If you're looking for ideas, here's a list that might shed some light. I can't believe nobody has said Kansas or Toto.

Eddie Money is the worst singer ever. He should be shot on sight just to prevent a tv exec from crapping out another bad idea, like having him sing the new theme to Tara Reid's show "Two Tickets to Taradise."

Eddie Money was once an NYC cop. At least that's the introduction Marilyn McCoo used to give him on Solid Gold.

I saw them open for the Stones in Philly in 81. People were throwing things at them they were so bad. They retreated for good around the 3rd song when a bottle broke after hitting the keyboard, sending them scurrying.I almost felt bad for them. ALMOST! Best Stones opener,Peter Tosh in '78.
-
Anyone who hates AC/DC, Led Zepplin or The Rolling Stones clearly hasn't really listened to them. Maybe they're sick of hearing their big hits on the radio, but these bands deserve respect and shouldn't be hated. Just my humble opinion.

I had to sit through one of his sets in Zanesville Ohio at a place called Legend Valley. He was staying at the same motel as we were and came out to hang by the pool. A few friends noticed and went down to say hello. He was such a jerk that they literally picked him up while in his pool chair, and tossed him, chair and all into the pool. He took off running to his room and shut the door. A few seconds later 2 huge bodyguard/bouncer types came from the next room over from his and glared up at us but made no approach. There were alot of us and boy did we laugh.Others at Legend Valley that day were Cars, Cheap Trick and Todd Rundgren's Utopia.Ah,good times!

Hate the Eagles more than anything.
Actively dislike the Doobie Brothers.
And... there's not one Steely Dan song that I like, and many that I don't like.
10,000 Maniacs are now 20 years old, making them classic rock. And I hate them.

Any band that crafted "Street Fighting Man" can't be bad.
Also, Led Zeppelin might have led to hundreds upon hundreds of crappy metal bands, but they are pretty fucking good. Just listen to their second album and the first half Physical Graffiti if you're not convinced.
AC/DC, I have no comment on. Just not a fan.

Clearly you don't know what you are talking about. I was bombarded by the entire Led Zeppellin catalog during my youth. I was forced to listen to them.
The reason I hate the Stones is because they've been playing for decades, and they still can barely play their instruments.
I was bombarded with AC/DC during my youth. I hated them then. But as an adult I have found that I don't nearly find them as repugent as I used to. AC/DC has aged well. I think that I finally GET them.

i went into DC9 after the death cab show and walked into a full-on butt rock set from the jukebox ... heard some styx, AC/DC ... i put a few random songs like "brimful of asha" on, then it went right back to the butt rock ... never heard that at DC9 ...

1. Eric Clapton - might be able to play and i luv cream, but man i just cant stand HIS songs.
2. Van Morrison - sounds like he's got marshmallows in his mouth when he sings.
3. Chicago - peter cetera's solo career should be testify to their suckedness. go ahead and sing a high falsetto like him u kno u want to. then pick your nuts up from off the floor.
4. supertramp - 'ol vice-grip nuts'. amazing how i like rush tho, probably b/c they dont whine like a bunch of queens. "take the long way home...." [as i put a gun to my head hearing it]
5. Allman Brothers - i hate southern rock, period.
runners up:
kiss, boston, kansas, grand funk, BTO er um guilty pleasure "go go godzilla way-ay-ay", doobies, zz top, styx [so bad their good] good singer tho, mr roboto wow they mustve been so high], aerosmith's comeback, eagles, bad company [bad music]...

need to revise my list...
1. Janis Joplin
2. Jefferson Airplane, etc
3. The Eagles
4. David Crosby, like me some CSNY but C gets on my tits
5. Rod Stewart remains because of the American Classic crapola he keeps spewing out. Who buys this stuff..
Ted Nugent is kept off the list ONLY because of his involvement with the Amboy Dukes and the classic "Journey to the Center of the Mind"
The Doors are completely ignorable...
Going to a high school in the Detroit area in the late seventies it was kinda hard to avoide Bog Seger and Ted Nugent on the radio. I remember it being a big deal when Seger did a six night run at Cobo Hall. Had some of those awkward teenage blues and "Live Bullet" on the stereo. But Seger like many other bands of my youth were distant memories replaced by increased devotion to The Clash, Talking Heads, Devo, U2, Wall of Voodoo, Replacements, Circle Jerks.
Because Bob is such a control freak he wont let his early and better garage blues material be re-released legally, because it's too raw and far flung from his polished "Like A Rock" spewage..
-
Foghat should get a special mention... Bought their greatest hits to get my mitts on "Fool for the City" and "Slow Ride". Only to find out that besides the obvious singles the rest of the stuff was crap. If the compliations remaining material is considered "great", I shutter to think what the rest of their catalog sounds like.

For the record, the original Dawn of the Dead has aged very badly. Is it more funny or scary now? Tough call...

you've obviously never been there when i've taken over the juke box. a little "carry on my wayward son," followed by "more than feeling," then for the indie kids, "mr. blue sky," then i bring the set to a close with "wheel in the sky." all the while chugging the schlitz and rawking out.

It is a black comedy NOW. It wasn't intended to be. At the time - it was a straight up fright fest - with a little social commentary thrown in to illustrate Romero's genius.
The best moments of the entire series are the first 15 minutes of the Dawn re-make. I think it's brilliant. Too bad the remainder of the movie tends to devolve into an MTV-like video.
-
What have you been smoking? It always was a black comedy. Romero said so back in '79.

aerosmith is more because a) they're really bad and b) what they've done recently compared to what they did back in the 70s, but this isn't strictly limited to what they did during a certain time frame, is it?

Because I defy you to tell them apart. I mean, how is it possible to be this overwrought and bombastic, and still have no distinguishing characteristics?
100% of the other candidates suggested are not even in the same league of horribleness as these arena rock drones. In fact, virtually all of them have at least a few songs that qualify as guilty pleasures, if not true classics. And a few of those nominations, well, the pathetic attempt at trendiness by those dissing them to show how hip they are (we'll protect the names of the guilty) is more reprehensible than the worst excesses of the sellouts I listed above.

hey just a second now! i have to stand up and say hey! :p
having been a musician, drummer, however mediocre, i have to point out and stand up for RUSH. i think if you hate them you may not just not be getting it with them. playing an instrument makes all the difference in recognizing what's worthy about them.
yeah some of their stuff is a bit um over the top in a way but lemme tell ya if u play an instrument u listen and go "damn, thats some good shit!" im especially speaking of geddy lee's bass playing and especially neil pert's drumming. not to mention some decent songwriting. yeah they had a an ethereal genre. but get beyond it and thats good shit they're playing on their instruments.
methinks i should demonstrate with some of the lesser known goodies they spit out.
Rush-La_Villa_Strangiato (http://www.yourfilehost.com/media.php?cat=audio&file=Rush-La_Villa_Strangiato.mp3)

I've been playing bass and guitar for a long tim. The longer I play the deeper my hatred for Rush grows.
Knock Knock?
Who's there?
Neil Peart
Neil Peart who?
Neil Pearty much a statement of fact, my band sucks shit.
-
you play bass. so you think geddy lee's bass sucks? that's some pretty nifty shit he plays, no?
afterthought, at least they dont have basslines like boston's "long-time" that's about as complicated as an oom-pah band banging on the fattest bass string for the whole song. didnt the bassist die, of boredom?!
confession, i like polka. Jimmy Sturr, baby!! yeahhh!
-
I think he's technically a good bass player that overplays in a band that overplays everything.
His tone is atrocious, his voice is spawned from the pits of hell and I'm pretty sure his yelps of rock excitement (ala in New World Man) are the rallying sound for insurgent thugs and killers across Iraq.
Other than that I have no real opinion.

honestly, i do think theyre over the top and after MovPict, Signals especially but having been into them from age 13 on their over the topness escaped me b/c i focus on their technical abilities. hell i dont even notice the rest anymore. at 35 i hav to admit i dont listen to them often and theyre not somemthing one can listen to everyday but they still hav merit besides i realize every band has the vehicle they ride towards success but the driverisnt necessarily the vehicle. its not like there's a whole lot out here that shows real hard technical skill and altho i like to hear hard shit sometimes that's over the top too and sometimes some bands try to get across by their hardness but man where's the skill on some of them. i need to hear some virtuosity sometimes b/c i kno better. every band's got their amount of fluff that you've just got to se thru. but skill to the music is always there beneath it all unless they suck like the eagles and other dumbed-down pop-oriented shit. i think i might make sense here i dunno.

The last time I saw Rush was in 1997 or so at Nissan. I was a fan in middle school and wanted to see if they still held any interest, but that was the final nail in the coffin. No more RUSH after that.

Hahaha, nice one.

i heard that band that sings that line "u gotta keep 'em seperated..." i hate every song they sing. something about the singers voice is so generic and the music too seems be alternative pop crossoverish. "hat-ed it!"
-
Michael Bolton and Joe Cocker definitely deserve a spot at the top of the classic rock hate list.
Ditto for Bob Seger. And Eddie Money.
And yeah, the Rolling Stones were great in the 60s and 70s, but they have sucked since "Tattoo You." One thing irritating about many classic rock fans is that they seem to think that being great two decades ago means that anything they do subsequently is also great. The Beatles did themselves a huge favor by splitting up, because surely they would've followed the same sad downward spiral of the Stones. I think the Stones should've hung it up at the end of the 70s.
Bands like the Eagles and Journey are so cheesy, and therefore somewhat funny, that they really don't deserve to be hated. Ditto for any "progressive" bands like Rush, or ELP, or Yes, the anthemists of boys who never grew out of their Dungeons-and-Dragons phase.
I can't figure out why so many of you hate Aerosmith though. They rawk, and they're funny!

Peter Gabriel Acknowledges Meeting With Genesis To Discuss Possible Reunion!
Steve Hackett has recently stated in interviews that there was a possibility of a Genesis reunion and that there was to be a meeting with former band members to discuss this long-anticipated event. This was confirmed by Peter Gabriel on the tabloid television show Extra yesterday. Gabriel, who was promoting his forthcoming concert DVD, Still Growing Up: Live and Unwrapped (due November 15th in North America), was asked about a Genesis reunion and commented that the meeting Hackett referred to will be taking place - although no specific meeting date was mentioned. Stay tuned for details as we get them!
Phil Collins says open to Genesis reunion
By Corinne Heller
Sun Nov 6, 4:29 PM ET
TEL AVIV, Israel (Reuters) - British singer and songwriter Phil Collins said on Sunday he would be open to a reunion of his old band Genesis, a day before he is set to perform in Israel as part of his what he calls his final tour.
"I'm open for it," said Collins, 54, the most prominent international music star to perform in Israel since the start of a Palestinian uprising more than five years ago.
"I'm happy to sit behind the drums and let Peter (Gabriel) be the singer. If (a reunion) happens, I'll be there. If it doesn't happen ... it would just be because there are too many things in the way," Collins told reporters in Tel Aviv.
