Title: Audio-scrobbers
Post by: you be betty on January 23, 2006, 11:01:00 pm
ALRIGHT, who was listening to "Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker"???

Not me but I've been meaning to come back and try to stir up some action for us in that group. We need some more members and activity. Also, there are a couple members who haven't listed their Audio-Scrobbler name vs their 9:30 name.

I have been listening to Zelda Pinwheel but that's one of the many that don't show up on my list.   :(

What is that?  It sounds like the title for some kind of bad 70s prog-rock.

Music from a Nintendo Gamecube title... Saw some Christian rant about how this game is blasphemy because it involves the appearence of multiple gods. People like that need to get a life...

I had a friend in middle school whose parents bought him the second Zelda game, only to realize that you could cast spells in it.  His parents put the game in a bowl of water and prayed around it.  Of course, I did hear his dad speak in tongues on numerous occassions...

as far as I can tell the 9.30 club group isn't tracking what I listen to anyway - my personal page works fine

Hey, from a quick check, the group isn't tracking any of mine either. Not a one!

Have to run now. Will look around a little more later to see if I can figure out what's up.

Ditto. Or, if it is, I clearly don't understand how the group charts are compiled.

maybe it only notes something if you listen to it a lot?

I do listen to the Halo Soundtrack on occasion.

I think it notes how many people listen to each individual artist or track.  Thus, I listened the 60 Elliott Smith tracks last week, but I only count as one "point" in the group charts.

That's what I've been able to gather, but I really have no idea.

The last FM site is just too damn slow for me, I don't go there much as a result.

I think the coolest thing about it is you can take the RSS feeds and then publish them on your own website...

 Hoya:
I think it will take tracks from the recently played playlist, so if you  have your ipod set to auto sync it should update from the ipod

and as far as the group charts...i'm not sure exactly how they work either, but i assume that it is recording how many people have listened to that artist.

One thing that's kind of a bummer is it also doesn't count what you're listening to on Internet Radio.  That would be kind of cool if stuff from WOXY or KEXP or whatever streams was listed, as well.

Actually, yes, it does. Or it can, if you tweak the correct settings. I can't recall if that's the default setting or not. It may depend on the type of iPod? (I'd be surprised if it works for iPod Shuffles, for example.) You can only specify one iPod per account to sync up with last.fm, and it uploads which tracks you've listened to on your iPod when you sync up the iPod with iTunes. Which you would need to do at least once per week in order for your tracks to show up on the 9:30 group charts.

Select "Preferences..." from the notes menu in the menu bar. Click on the "Enable iPod Submissions" checkbox. This is the Mac version. I have no knowledge of the Windows version.

It apparently just updates from your most recently played playlist on your iPod.  Not the most accurate, but whatever.

Awesome.

#21 Gwen Stefani - Hollaback Girl

Although, I'm shocked and appalled that nobody else listened to a single Britney Spears song.  What do you guys listen to when you get dressed for a Friday/Saturday night out on the town?!!?

last night I witnessed Grand Buffet perform a live mashup of U2 and Ghostbusters, I hope to god this never sees the light of day and ends up on these charts

I still don't think that any of my music is showing up from what I see on the latest chart. There are about 4 bands listed that I've listened to but I can't be sure I've had anything to do with it.

Also, I'm now suspecting that at least 2 different group members have to listen to any one artist for it to reflect on the charts. If so, that leaves Smackie and I off the charts for the majority of our music.

Kosmo, would you please sneak into this thread and add an 'l' in Audio-scrobbers (sic)?

New charts are up.

I'm still pretty sure that at least 2 different group members must listen to any one given artist for it to show up in order to weed out the anomalies.

Brennser, let's try an experiment. Since I know that you and I are probably the only ones who have the following CD, sometime between now and next week, play your Silver Screen CD. Make sure you use the CD and not MP3s just to make sure that the properly tagged files get sent up since Last.FM is so picky about such things. If my theory is correct, if both of us play them, then they should show up on the next chart. If not, then I have no idea why we are being ostracized, providing it does show up on our personal charts.

I had to laugh at my latest personal chart because it looks like I've been hanging out in the early morning garden.    :D

That seems fairly unlikely, though; do you really think two people listened to Wheatus or the Legend of Zelda soundtracks in the same week?

It doesn't have to be in the same week except in the weekly chart specifically but you make a good point.

I can't figure out why some of us don't seem to be affecting the charts in any way. Well, there are a few bands in the charts that I listen to but most of mine are nowhere to be found but are showing up on my personal charts which tells me they are on their server but not making it over to the group. The common ones of mine are also the bands that are more commonly listened to among others so I'm not even sure if any of my listens have contributed to their presence.

I suspect that it takes at least 2 different listeners to create a 'network' within the group, so to speak. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong.

Betty, do you have any controls at your hands that allow you to see who listened to what? Maybe in the 'Profile Editor'?

It looks like the weekly charts only list the top 300 entries.

New group charts are up and it still looks like Brennser and I are being left out. I don't get it at all. What are we doing wrong? It's obviously going up to Last.FM because you can see our charts on our personal pages but we aren't being counted within the group charts.   :(  There's nothing about it in any of the FAQs either. Brennser and I are some of the original members too so we've passed any time limits and file numbers required before they are accounted for.

Anyone else being left off or any accounts of only playing one song and you know it's there?

a song you played this week would only have shown up on the weekly chart if 2 other people played the same song
