Toad's Place in Richmond

New Haven's Toads Place has now opened a southern outlet in Richmond!

Hopefully they'll start booking some decent acts to make the drive down well worth it..

Yeah, I was excited about this being in Richmond, but the lineups are pretty ugh so far.

I was given free tickets to one of the shows the opening weekend (Rooney, I think) so I might go to that just to see if the club is nice. I'll report back.

The current 9:30 schedule looks weak. It's just that time of year.

Oh wow finally a decent good size venue down in Richmond!

I liked the one up in New Haven. Had a blast playing there last summer, although I did not like how you have to have the 21+ sectioned off if you had a drink in hand. I'm sure has to do with city laws, not the club...I hope.  :)

toad's place in new haven used to get some quality acts. i grew up going there in the early '90s. i saw hawkwind, the butthole surfers, lush, and monster magnet there.  however, their schedule has pretty much sucked ass for the past decade.  if they book the same shit in richmond, expect lots of bar bands and tribute bands.

It is my understanding that they are booked and/or co-owned by the folks who run the norva.  I work about three blocks from the Toads and will do my best to support it.  Richmond has a well documented history of not supporting live music.  Historically the acts that sell out here are Cher and Elton John (not that there is anything worng with either one of them, just thats all that sells out here).  I'm sure I'll still be hitting the 930 at least on a monthly basis though.  Too many good times and good people there to pass on it completely.

Rising Tide Productions? I don't think so. From looking at the two venues' sites (and Rising Tide's) I see no overlapping names or email addresses for the two entities.

The people who put the money into a project are often not the same as those who have email in such easy to find places.  May not be the same folks, but thats what the word has been aroud here for a while.
