I bought a National ticket, but I'm bailing and seeing Team Dresch instead.

Any chance of a Team Dresch sellout?

Probably not, they've been off the radar for quite awhile and unless you were previously initiated to them it's doubtful you would have your interest piqued by the few references to them here and there in the press.  Until a new album is released and they play some higher profile gigs I think it'll just be old timers showing up at their shows especially in this market.  They sold out last night in NC, and I think both Brooklyn and NYC shows are sold out as well.  They play in Philly tomorrow, an early free set then a later gig that has a few tix left.

Any Dresch reviews?  I'm bummed I couldn't make it, but I've got a full show schedule this week already.

Excellent, they only played two new songs but they were damn good.  Everyone was much better on their instruments than what I remember, but the stand out was unquestionably Melissa York who played double duty with her own new band Ex-Members who opened and the Captain My Captain songs during the TD set.  She is so phuckin good, and made both bands run like a smooth engine.

The Ex-Members were not unlike most queer-core electronic minded bands and sounded a little (lot?) like Le Tigre, not a bad thing and had nearly everyone dancing around.  They only have an 3-4 song EP out so they augmented with some covers, definitely entertaining.

TD blazed through their set, and like I said when Melissa was on stage it was electric.  Jody was either tired or drunk, and was pretty lewd but hilarious.  Kaia sounded and looked great, and if she every decided to go over to the dark side Iâ??d be the first in line. All in all it was a little rough around the edges, the mix was a little muddy, but the effort was epic as all ways and Iâ??m salivating for new material and a proper tour.

Worth only getting a few hours sleep.

I use the same language I use when I talk to you online (because you're special), but I won't use the same language on this board.

Don't know if I'd go that far, actually I do know...I wouldn't.  But there does seem to be a fair amount of buyers remorse on The National thread.  TD may not be everyone's cup of tea, especially if you don't like being bludgened to death by killer riffs, soaring vocals, and a general metallic onslaught.  But two things are for damn sure at a TD show, you wouldn't be bored and you'd definitely have taste.

Well...I don't know if TD was THAT powerful, but it sure was a fun, rockin' time.  It's a shame there weren't more people there.
