Ryan Adams Roll Call.
« on: July 20, 2006, 11:24:00 am »
anyone else going to be at Sonar tomorrow night?

Also, anyone know what to expect him to play?  I feel like he has a number of different styles...slower country stuff and more rock songs.

does he mix it up or should i forget about him playing "So Alive" ?

he does a great cover of bryan adams' "summer of 69" ... but you have to loudly, drunkenly, and repeatedly request it

I haven't seen him w/o Cold Roses in a bit...I don't remember him playing too much off of RnR, but who knows. Check ryanadams.org msg. board.

You can probably forget about "So Alive."  I've seen him five or six times now since that record came out, and the only time he played it was during the Rock N Roll tour.

All in all, seeing Ryan & The Cardinals is kind of like going to see the Grateful Dead.

I think b/c RnR was as some of his fans say, "his FU! album". Or, something?...Anyhow, have fun, good to see him if you haven't.

Edit: Okay, I read up - I didn't even know he was with the Cardinals. Yeah - kinda like seeing the Dead. When I saw them, mostly songs from Cold Roses. So, I would expect songs from that album and their recent double-disc (which is pretty much the same, but CR had more variation). Toss in a few Ryan songs. More country/alt-country, whatever kids call it, singer/songwriter stuff. Nothing off of RnR when he's w/ Cardinals.
 Catherine Popper rocks!

He did perform a few songs off RnR at the late-night Bowery Ballroom in late June (check the RA Archive site for a torrent of the show, excellent quality). Every Ryan Adams show is different, so who knows. I've been to five so far and each was great in their own special way.  :)

Yeah, there can be a Grateful Dead vibe, but at least no one is doing twirly dancing.  :D  It was awesome to see Phil Lesh and RA jamming at the end of 4/24 show in Portland, though.

Any idea of approximate set times?  Doors 8:30. Opener 9:30, Ryan at 11 maybe?

This was a great show and was well worth the trip to Balmer.  The Cardinals are a hell of a backing band.

The highlight of the weekend was certainly the Handsome Family at Iota, though.
