Gift for a music fan
« on: June 21, 2007, 04:37:00 pm »
A'ight kids. A very good friend of ours has a birthday coming up. This person is really into music and I'd like to get a music themed gift.

Any suggestions? 9.30 club gift card?  A Numero Group subscription?

Unlike Dupek I will permit you more than one suggestion per poast

Can you get them a guitar? I've given lots of those away. You can find perfectly good starter guitars on Craigslist for $50. Sure, most of the time they end up in a corner eventually, but I've found that people get really excited when they open a (big) box and find their very own axe to wield. It's also how I started playing.

If they're a concert addict like myself, a TicketMaster gift card is a good place to start.

Or a complete box set of an artist they love. (i.e. The Police "Message In A Box", The Complete Led Zeppelin Recordings Box Set, etc.)

Or plan a night out on the town if one of their favorite artists are performing this summer.  Just thoughts . . . . .

If you have the time, a slighter larger budget, and they're good enough friends surprise them with at road trip to see one of their favorite bands.  If they're as big a fan as you say then there should be plenty of possible gigs and you can choose from here, Philly, NYC,  and still be able to drive, but there are also cheap flights to boston, buffalo (Toronto), Norfolk.  I've done this a couple of times, and if you're able to really keep it a surprise, probably take a couple of white lies, it has gone down pretty well, and if you take a bullet (ie. take them to see someone they really like, but you think sucks) in the process it shows that you genuinely care that they are getting something special and not just taking them to a show you wanted to go to anyway.
