Someone Explain to Me
« on: November 11, 2005, 12:28:00 pm »
Ok, so Elliot's Xmas bash is: Shinedown, Silvertide, and Living Things. Someone explain to me why a Clear Channel owned station that dominates the (limited) rock radio in DC can't get bigger named acts?  WHFS did it for years.  What gives?

They push the Hell out of cheap shit for maximum profit. They are smart enough to know that most sheeple eat up any old kind of crap that is force fed to them. Sadly, they are right.

I saw Silvertide at the Black Cat with Bad Wizard and Mondo Generator a couple of years ago.  There were maybe 11 people in the club while Silvertide was playing.  They didn't seem to care -- they were going crazy with the big rock routine.  The singer was doing the DLR splits, and running out and sliding across the floor of the club on his knees; the guitarist was pulling out the windmills and the rest of the heavy metal guitarist moves.

Say what you will about their music (I can't say I'm a fan of it), but I've got nothing but respect for bands that play all-out balls to the wall to a nearly empty venue.

Yeah, I have to fully agree with you on that point.

My diss was directed more towards Clear Crap than the bands actually.

Heh, I was one of those 11 people. I definitely remember sitting on the side going, "What the...?" when the singer jumped out onto the empty floor, asking people to move up. I think two guys shifted a few inches.

the only good band on that bill is silvertide. i find their black crows meet ac/dc sound quite refreshing. my dad got their album this past summer and at first i was skeptical, but it's really quite fun.

but yeah the rest of the line up seriously sucks. hfs nutcracker however totally rocks. violent femmes and psychadelic furs! which if you ask me is totally worth 35 bucks. let's face it, it's hip to be retro and thank god for that.
