Anyone heard him? Should I get to the club early enough to catch the set tonight?

Apparently he's an old Detroit R&B guy who has been around since the early '60s. I've heard mixed opinions. One friend said he was way past his freshness date; another swears Mayer can still bring it.
I'm sure this helps you in no way whatsoever.
