Fiery Furnaces
« on: July 05, 2007, 01:38:00 pm »
Anyone interested in the show tonight at Black Cat?  I've seen them once at 9:30 Club and was pretty underwhelmed, but I love some of their records.  I just did an awkward interview with them here:

See the mid-week roll call.  There are a few of us going, myself included.  Feel free to say hi if you see me; I'll most likely be wearing a red & white striped polo shirt and jeans.  And say hi to Joe also; he'll be the one making crude & unwarranted sexual advances on me.

Ah, sorry, glanced through the boards quickly and didn't see there was already a topic started.

I'm going to take that as a compliment, I try to make my interviews a little different from the typical indie rock star interviews.  I also just did one with The Boy Least Likely To who was seriously the cutest sweetest guy ever.  He was like "is that ok?" after everything.

you can always tell the difference between an interview that the person wants to do and one that their manager tells them to do.

It's not unwarranted if you like it. Bring your owl. I'll take a picture of the three of us.

it being painful to read isn't a compliment. i'm sorry. you yourself even admitted it was awkward. it didn't even read like he was taking the questions you answered him seriously and he was just sluffing you off - so why bother even posting it?

and yes, you can tell the difference between the interviews the managers make them do and the ones thy do on their own - but just because you ask 'different'  questions does not a good interview make. i read the boy least likely
to interview too and it's an obvious difference in the person you're interviewing.

Yeah, I mean, that was my intention though, that's my sense of humor, there are like 10 serious interviews with him already out on the interwebs if you want serious rock star insights, but why do something that's already been done?  It's kind of like a running joke/theme of our site, I interview all these people and ask questions they don't normally get asked from typical indie interviewers, some of them "get it" and go with it, while others, not so much, either way, I find it more interesting (personally) than a 10 page Pitchfork interview. Like here is another "sluffing off" one that a lot of people seemed to love:

I guess it's the same idea as The Office, painful = funny?  Except that I am way way way way way less talented than Ricky Gervais.  Actually just pretend I never even made that analogy.

Anyway, sorry you didn't like it.
