« on: July 09, 2007, 11:38:00 am »
i am going to see a show at the tower theatre in upper darby, pa.  has anybody been there?  i heard it's not the greatest place, and the neighborhood is even worse, but others say it is fine.  anyone here weigh an opinion.  thanks.

It's not that bad.  No worse than the 9:30 neighborhood.

i saw tool there last year.  nice venue.  free parking in a garage up the street.  decent dive bar/restaurant right next to the loading entrance.  didn't notice the neighborhood being bad at all.

what ggw said - comparable to 930's hood.  slightly more built up (more of a business district, whereas 930 feels a little more like no-mans-land), a little run down, but i felt safe.  i parked on the street, whatever the main one is just north of the venue - no probs, other than some nasty locals who tried stealing my parking spot when i arrived... frustrating, but safe  :)

I've been there a couple of times, the most recent being Radiohead last year.  My only advice is to make sure you allow plenty of time getting there.  I can remember the traffic being horrible in the neighborhood right around the venue.

The neighborhood itself didn't seem too bad or unsafe.  All the parking seemed relatively close and there were obviously lots of people in and around the area.

The venue is really nice, and the area is similar to 9:30 clubs, but a shorter walk from the bus/ subway station.

But give yourself plenty of time to make it to the show.  Traffic is terrible.

Also if you don't want to drive all the way and risk the traffic snarl you can jump on Septa and there's a station just a few blocks away.

never been to this venue either and noticed interpol will be playing there. now seeing that interpol is playing at msg in nyc, curious how big tower theater is in comparison?

if its closer to 9:30 size - im definitely getting tix to that show.

Warner Theatre would be a better comparison than 9:30

yeah, the tower seats over 3000 so it's a bit larger than the 9:30. parking was easy, but i do remember traffic being pretty bad. last time i was there was about 10 years ago so things may be different now.
