Chicago Bars/Pitchfork
« on: July 13, 2007, 01:24:00 pm »
Heading up to Chicago later today for Pitchfork with a few friends.  We are trying to find a bar to go to tonight.  Any suggestions on a place with a decent jukebox, decent drinks, etc..We are trying to find something similiar to the Black Cat Red Room or RNR Hotel here in DC.  Dont necessarily need live music, just a lively scence with good music being played.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We considered going to Schubas, but Spoon is playing there tonight so it may be a bit packed...

I wonder if Delilah's is still around, I think it is. If you like punk rock, that's a good place. Anywhere near the Double Door would be good, TONS of bars there and if you don't like one you can stumble to the next one. Well or badly, I always kind of liked the Smart Bar (downstairs from the Metro), or the Ginger Man just down the block on Clark. I think the Liars Club was pretty good (on Fullerton if my hazy memory serves me).

Getting ready to jump on a plane in a few minutes, there are a couple of semi-official PF afterparties, that probably won't be as low key as you're looking for but if you have the stomach for late night shennanigans, tonight at Metro from 11-4 there will be DJ's kicking off with a showing of the Daft Punk film followed by the chicago debut of Mr. Ozio, also tonight at the empty bottle there will be some serious post pitchfork drinking and whatknot til 2am.

both had pre-sales for cheap and you might want to try and get tix online before because door sales are likely to be crazy if existent plus you don't want to have to rush right over there.  If you need more details PM me, I'll be on the ground around 4:45 CST and will get back to you before Slint goes on.  Peace.

My absolute favorite bar/jukebox is the Gingerman.  It's in Wrigleyville about 4 doors up from the Metro.  Good beer, nice people, excellent tunes (and pool tables in the back)

If you're up for a movie, there's also the Brew and View where you can drink and yell at the movie screen.

Also excellent places to eat (sorry, I don't know the addresses for most of these)

Greek Islands in Greektown (on Halstead)
Penny's Noodle Corner (cheap awesome noodles)
 Bongo Room (fucking fantastic Brunch)
 Cloud 9 (yummy martinis)

I once led a group of drunken Irishmen in a chorus of Van Halen's "Dreams" after doing a little air keyboard at Emmit's around 2 AM on St. Pats.

Actually, that's the story the pictures and my friends told me - I don't remember any of it, myself.  But be careful, it's a 5-0 bar.
