Pitchfork today and Bevis Frond
« on: November 21, 2003, 05:38:00 pm »
Gave Bevis Frond a 9.1

Is it really that good? I cannot say I know anything about them....

And several times in the last couple of months things have got compared to the Byrds. Is there really more to them than turn turn turn and Mr Tambourine man?

The country album the Byrds did when Gram Parsons was in the band, Sweethearts of the Rodeo, is excellent.

The guy from Bevis Frond has also collaborated with and written some nice stuff with Mary Lou Lord.

"Younger Than Yesterday" is also an amazing byrds album...more 60's rock than Sweetheart. I love it.

Tom Petty practically made a living on his early albums just ripping off the Byrds.

I haven't heard a Bevis Frond album in about a decade. This sounds like its worth checking out.

I like it, but I don't really understand why everyone else is so crazy over it.  I bought this  at the recommendation of a friend who is a huge fan.  In fact, I brought it into work today, because the pitchfork review reminded me about it.  I'll try to listen a little closer today.  It's not the reissue though, so I can't comment on the extra stuff.

Relating this to another thread, I bought this at the amazing Amoeba Records in SF earlier this year.  Talk about feeling like a kid in a candy store...
