It depends on how the narrative is spun after McCain loses.   If Republicans believe that Palin dragged McCain down (which appears to be an objective fact), she won't go much further.
 
 If she and her enthusiasts can claim that the McCain campaign held her back from realizing her true potential, then she might be a rising star in the GOP.  And given the Republican "base" capacity for self-delusion, that seems like a likely scenario.
 
 I really think the time is ripe for a new party that represents traditional conservative views -- limited government, meaning not just tax cuts but limited foreign interventionism and meddling in private affairs.  
 
 For those of you Republicans out there, since McCain/Palin is a doomed ticket, you can best express this desire by voting Bob Barr on November 4.

 And what a great time that will be for those of us who are Democrats -- watching her try to explain away the house that was built for free by the contractors who built the Wasilla sports stadium, her non-reporting of per diems as income, her failure to give the dresses to charity, her inability to name a single Supreme Court decision, her failure to cite a single printed news source, her continued misrepresentation of the role of the Vice President over the Senate, her failure to support her own campaign's positions on issues ranging from off-shore drilling to abortion rights, her inability to complete the word "caricature" on national television, her husband's membership in the Alaska Independence Party, her stonewalling of the medical records question, her refusal to hold press conferences, her abuse of power as Governor, including the late-breaking news that one in four of her appointments has gone to campaign donors, with little or no consideration for their qualifications for the positions they've received, her continued attempts to smear her former brother-in-law, her insistence that only some places in America are "pro-America places," her insistence that she is a better campaign strategist than the people who make campaign strategy for a living ("Aw c'mon, do we have to?"), her future son-in-law's description of his likes, on his myspace page, as "just hangin' out and fuckin' chillin' an' shit," her continued lies about opposing earmarks and controlling state spending, her continued inability to convincingly explain the maternity of her youngest child, her own mother-in-law's inability to endorse her candidacy, her horrific record as the Mayor of Wasilla, the videotape of her speaking in tongues at her former church, and the very real possibility that her refusal to stand accountable for an ongoing obstruction of justice in the Trooper investigation may yet lead to criminal charges.
