Zep To Fly Plantless?
 Tuesday, Oct 28, 2008 10:30AM
Rock icons Led Zeppelin are planning to record and tour sans frontman Robert Plant, according to a report by the BBC.
The band, which reunited for a tribute to the late Ahmet Ertegun last December, is said to have already begun auditioning replacement singers for Plant, who has dragged his feet with regard to a reformed Zep.
Bassist John Paul Jones told BBC Radio although he, guitarist Jimmy Page and drummer Jason Bonham are raring to go, the search is a complicated one.
"We want to do it. It's sounding great and we want to get on and get out there," Jones explained.
"It's got to be right. There's no point in just finding another Robert. You could get that out of a tribute band, but we don't want to be our own tribute band."

Terry Reid would be a more logical choice

By Jove, you may be onto something there!

Wasn't he supposed to be their original choice for singer way back in the '60s? Kind of like finally getting it all right. (Note: this coming from a big Terry Reid fan who does not like Robert Plant at all.)

yup that's his story... page wanted him in the band, but he was already signed as a solo artist... isn't there rumblings that he isn't entirely with it these days?

dude posting big pictures on forums make the log lady cry...  and if this is response to Terry Reid, then you owe to yourself to check him out, as one could say that robert plant is a dead ringer for him  :D

Don't know. Last I heard was that he was living and occassionally performing in L.A.. I think in the most recent photo I've seen of him, he looked like some Lounge crooner. But then again, so does Moz and Bryan Ferry.

If you find out anything more recent, please let me know.

Regarding Reid sounding like Plant, yes and there is a major similarity except, in my opinion, Reid can actually carry and hold onto a note and his voice is a bit more masculine sounding than Plant's. But, as noted, I am obviously biased.

I'm thinking Michael Bolton.
