ok, disclaimer: this is complete and total conjecture, just a gut hunch, none of it backed by any kind of fact
 
 i'm thinking that Macy Gray has kind of quietly moved from being a "pop star" appealling to the younger MTV/radio crowds to attracting more of the "contemporary R&B" and neo-soul set (think Me'Shell NdegéOcello fans), who tend to be an older and more wealthy crowd and who don't necessarily change allegiances as someone becomes "unhip"

I didn't this time, but I saw her at the club back in 2003.  I think it cost about the same.  She puts on a great show.

Yeah that Foriegn Exchange album is nice.  Phonte is the MC on that album and he is in the group Little Brother which I did play. Good call.

I would agree. I saw her with the hipsters in 1999 or 2000. Only then, the price was $20 or less.
