Bad Brains/Soul Brains show 11/19

well that little bit of news just about made my year.  should be interesting to say the least.  i hear hr is so fucked up after being on pot for years but whatever.  when they start playing attitude or banned in dc, the whole place is going to go apeshit.

I've seen them both times they've played at the 930 under the name Soul Brains.  As a band, I think they are phenomenal.  HR is a bit screwy though.  Yes, the place will go crazy, but it seemed the audience really loved "I and I".

Anyone know where to find a full tour-schedule?  Slackers don't have a website anymore!

what you have to realize is that they're going to play the classics but they're also going to jam the dub-reggae a lot too. When they played Superbowl of Hardcore in 2001, they got Right Brigade out then an H.R. dub free style, then all hell broke loose on the next hardcore song, some dude got his throat slit by spikes or something, riot, no more show. Never seen a full Bad Brains set.

i heard about that stabbing but didn't know it was during bad brains.  is that why they stopped doing the superbowl of hardcore?  i don't think people getting stabbed and inciting riots should be a problem (hopefully) at 930.

the first time soul brains played the club a few years back, it was nuts.  i dislocated my shoulder in the barricade.  it was a blast.  the second time, it was not nearly as crazy, but still a lot of fun.

There was a Superbowl of Hardcore the next year with The Circle Jerks as the 'big' thing, a bunch of wuss emo bands played that show too, must have been some package tour that played the show. There was no superbowl this year but two big shows came that were as good as the Superbowl of Hardcore (the Madball/Blood for Blood/MPB/Death Threat show & the Hatebreed/Agnostic Front, combine them and it's a Superbowl alright). Nation's doing a bunch of local hardcore shows, so maybe it's back in their agenda.

It'll be interesting if my theory that punk reunion shows tend to be rather lackluster holds out.   And it's mostly owing to the significantly mellowed audiences, because even if the bands rawk, since those days most of the formerly young dudes in the audience have found alternative outlets for their testosterone, and thus are significantly less frenetic in the face of loud fast music.

Last time I saw Bad Brains was in Philly in say '95 or so.  The band came out but HR refused to.  He sang the first song or two from backstage.  When he finally did come out he made his disdain for the audience obvious, pretty much singing the next song or two in a mocking way.  Then he left and the band soon followed.  The crowd was pissed as hell so BB's manager eventually came on stage and apologized to the crowd and basically pleaded with it to stay cool cuz tensions were real high.  Finally everyone just left.  A real ripoff.  A few days later HR was arrested for assaulting the bands manager, thrown in jail and the tour was scrapped.

I also saw the band a bunch in the 80's, including at the old 9:30 and they were easily one of the best live bands I've ever seen.  It's just too bad that HR has been such and unstable character over the years.

isn't he pretty chill these days though?
Like they've done successful tours without problems in the last couple of years. I'm still pissed for missing the tour they did with the Cro-Mags (more or less), Bane, and Candiria. Are there gonna be other openers for 9:30 club show besides Murphy's Law?
