I was also at the R.E.M. concert this week, and it was great! They really dug deep into their oeuvre with their set list. It's really cool that fans can request songs for them to play on the tour too. It really puts a lot of variation into each concert. I've never heard Michael Stipe sing better. He can hit notes now that I'm sure he never could even touch in '84.
I'm tired of hearing the complaints about "Bad Day." I think it's a fine song. I won't claim it's their best work, but keep in mind that it's a non-album track that was thrown onto their new greatest hits compilation to give their hardcore fans a reason to purchase it. Whether you like the song or not, it's hardly indicative of their current work. People who complain about R.E.M. having lost it really need to listen to "New Adventures in Hi-Fi," one of the best albums put out by a mainstream U.S. band in the past ten years.
