wow, i think i agree with everything you just wrote darth ed! i will add that the sound for the editors in march was very good, but last night, i thought it was excellent. i came into this show expecting that they were going to draw out some songs to hit that 75 min set they were probably contracted for. and it definitely detracted from the overall quality of the set.
 
 the only word i can think of that accurately describes his voice is rich. he has a very rich voice. just lovely.
 
 what i like about lake trout, is that every time i see them, its a different sound entirely. while i thought the pairing on the bill was a great, i odn't know if they were necessarily my thing in this latest reincarnation of theirs. can appreciate it, but just not my taste.
 
 congrats fico! great to see your band and talk with you. and clearly you had a lot of support in the audience with all the folks that kept stopping you and your band mates when you came out to watch the rest of the show.

The singer of the Editors has a very good voice, but their songs are just too derivative and unmemorable for me to enjoy. I mean, Interpol have derivative songs but their music have more variety and are more memorable. Didn't you guys notice the audience after the main set was over? They was really no one screaming for more.
 
 I enjoyed Lake Trout very much, though.

Editors were good. The sound quality was excellent, and that helped a lot. I like the singer's voice, but his whole "I'm so anguished I have to hold my hand to my ear" thing got old very quickly.

 Also, I picked up a Cedars EP at the end of the night- really solid, very impressed.

hahaha...sorry.  Same old tricks, eh.  I think he was having big troubles with his in-ear monitors.  Apparently, when you sweat alot, it causes crackling noises and distortions.  I think that explains the "anguish" thing.
 
 On another note:  I LOVE Lake Trout and I agree, they morph into something different everytime I hear 'em.  The lead guitarist, Ed, is mezmerizing to watch.  I think he was a dancer in a prior life.
 
 Sadly, I arrived during the last two Cedar songs...but I think you know how much I love your sound, Fico.  Wish I could have heard Fleets... next time.
 
 I think the sluggish crowd was a direct result of the freekin HEAT.  It didn't seem quite that bad on Tues. night, but I think there were a couple hundred MORE bodies last night.

Could be. It was noticeably warmer than usual in the club last night. I've often wished the 9:30's AC was better.  :roll:

great show last night ... started the night out early with happy hour at duffy's, hadn't been there before and i like the place, although a bit antiseptic for an irish joint
 
 cedars were spot on, thought you guys sounded good ... there were a couple of moments from lake trout that i really liked, particularly the last song, had some great explosions-in-the-sky-type anthemic rock going on ... but i didn't really connect with most of the rest of the set
 
 editors were fantastic, you can tell they've been playing to large audiences and they just know how to rock ... i really hadn't heard much by them other than "munich" before the show, and that's often a recipe for me getting bored, but definitely not this time ... the light show was perfect, not too intense but really added to the atmosphere

Agree with both.  
 
 The Editors aren't winning too many awards for originality in songwriting or sound, which is probably why I'm pretty lukewarm on their album, but they really put on a good live show.  Good voice.  Great sound last night.  I agree that some of the songs were filler and could have been cut, but overall they still met my high expectations I think.

All of you people who loved Lake Trout are jam band fans waiting to happen, whether you know it or not.  I think they come off as a jam band trying really hard to be an atmospheric rock band, and not quite making it there.
 
 If you dug their set, I highly recommend checking out the Disco Biscuits or Brothers Past, both of whom are doing comparable things, but a lot better.
 
 I thought Editors were great, if a bit more workmanlike this time around than last time.  Seems like the "holy shit, we're touring the world" factor has worn off from their show.
 
 Cedars sounded great in that room.  Outstanding sound mix.

i agree completely ... i actually tried to go down to the back bar after i heard the first couple of songs, but it was closed last night for some reason ... but i really think the last song "worked", you don't agree?

Thanks to everyone for the kind words...we had a great time and the other bands in the bill had a great time as well... everyone in Lake Trout and Editors were extremely friendly which is always a plus..their guitarist even set our set beginning to end which was quite cool of him to do after being on an 18-month long tour.. Tom the singer told me that as soon as they finish the tour they'll go into recording the sophomore and have some things already written for it including live favorite "Bones"...

I have no idea.  I left for exactly the reason you mentioned - since the Backbar was closed, I went to DC9.  I thought they were pretty bad, personally.  I've got an affinity for some of the jam bands that really pull off the more dancey, club based stuff - Disco Biscuits and Brothers Past, as I mentioned, both do it very, very well.
