building service charge waived?

just curious, I bought a ticket to last night's Howie Day show at the door and did not have to pay the $1 service charge that my friend paid when buying tickets the day before I did. Why?

there is no service charge at the club if you buy tickets once we're open for the show.  actually, the charge goes away just before we open.  you won't get a fancy ticket stub for your collection, though.
