ITunes question
« on: February 21, 2008, 07:42:00 pm »
OK, I might be a moron, but I simply cannot figure out how to put a smart playlist in the order that I want. I can't move songs up or down in the actual playlist, I have to settle for whatever order the program puts them in. How do you move them? I'm trying to make a Bob Mould mix for a friend of mine, and it's really frustrating me!

Pull up the playlist and at the top where you have different columns, click the one all the way on the left (it's untitled, just left of "Name"). Can you still not change the track order then?

That just reverses the order. I want, say, track 1 to be track 8, track 2 to be track 3, track 14 to be 11, etc, etc....

Yeah, I know. Sometimes, if I accidentally click  "Name," for example, it'll sort by track name alphabetically and then I can't move tracks around until I click the untitled/trackorder column, then I can move them around again.

have you tried right-clicking an individual track, and on the info tab giving it a track number corresponding the order you want it in?  sort of a destructive way of doing things since it would ruin the order the songs belong in on the album it came from.

Start an empty regular playlist. Drag the contents of the smart playlist to the regular playlist. Reorder as you please.

You can change the sort order of smart playlists but not the order of the individual tracks.

Thank you all for your help. In smart playlist, you have to click on the number once, unclick, then click and hold, then drag to the position you want. Jesus that was complicated to change the order of a playlist! You'd think it would be a little more apparent and user friendly.
