Devin Davis

Anyone heard his record "Lonely People of the World, Unite!"?  With a description like this on Allmusic, I'm was off like a shot in search of more info...

It's not everyday an indie kid comes out of nowhere and drops a guitar pop record as assured and melodically powerful as any by Sloan, the New Pornographers or Jason Falkner. Unknown Chicago wonder geek Devin Davis pulls it off on his record Lonely People of the World, Unite! Self-produced and almost totally played by Davis himself, the record is a stunning debut by an artist with tons of potential.

Listened to the song samples on his website and while pretty darn good, it's still a bit to "indie pop" for my tastes and certainly not sounding like the masterpiece the Allmusic reviewer is hailing it as...

salon touted him a few weeks ago and I downloaded some songs from his site - pretty good but didn't make me want to drop everything and order the album

Actually found a used copy of this last night at CD Cellar. Pretty good stuff - bedroom power-pop. GVB fans would probably like this a lot.

Yeah, I got the album a while back and wasn't disappointed. It's nothing groundbreaking, really; just a damn solid pop album.

I thought of Gen G. Pollard when checking out the songs... The Devine Miss M. might like it as well... enjoyed what i heard but not sure about liking his  vocals enough to buy the record.  maybe seeing him live would sway me.  i much prefer Andy Bopp's indie power-pop.

It's as if Bob Marley inhaled a lungfull of Laibach and coughed up Whistling Jack Smith.
