Any suggestions on where to stay when visiting the club? I'll be traveling there for the 1st time and would like to find a place within walking distance. Anyone else going to see the Old 97s?

there are some fine $499,999 condos and crack-houses in the area, but no hotels ... just get one downtown or in duport and take a cab ...

 There aren't any hotels in walking distance. Depending on how much you want to spend, there are a wide range of hotels in downtown DC and neighborhoods like Dupont Circle and Woodley Park.
 
 I usually recommend the Jurys Hotel in Dupont Circle. Since the show is a week away, you may want to try your luck on Priceline. For the location choices, only check off "White House-Downtown" and "Dupont Circle-Woodley Park."
 
 The less costly hotel rooms are located in the MD and VA 'burbs (e.g. Silver Spring, MD and Arlington, VA), which may be an option for you since you're driving.

I agree on Jury's -- a good price there would be between $99-129.
 
 Also check the Days Inn on Connecticut Avenue.  It's in Van Ness, a few neighborhoods away, but you can take the metro and bus down, and a cab back for $12...

I believe there is a new Days Inn down in China Town too - which may be closer than Van Ness...and Jury's a great choice cause it's got a nice bar/restaurant with outside tables for before/after the 930!

i believe this only counts on making reservations in advance, like a month or so, but you might wanna check anyway.  if not, this place is awesome for later.  the hotel is called the sofitel, and it is behind the white house, overlooking lafayette park.  they have this option where you pay the entire amount in advance and you can't cancel or change the reservation, called "hot deal", but you get their $400 superior room for $150.  i was so excited, i almost claimed that i loved the pixies.  they have a killer gym, 24 hour room service, a bar open until 2, if you're nice to the bartender, and hookers within walking distance.  no place in d.c would be complete without hookers you can point out to your family.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.  Especially the crack house and hooker info.  I'll be sure to check both of those out while I'm visiting.

I wouldn't stay in Van Ness and deal with all that Metro crap.  Follow Random's suggestgion of Jury's, or if you want feel like a hipster, stay at  Hotel Helix at 14th and Rhode Island.  (They also have a cool bar.)
 
 Either Helix or Jury's are never short of cabs, and from either of those it's a $5.50 ride in under 10 minutes.
 
 
 If you're determined to walk, Helix actually *is* walkable from the 9:30, but it's a 20 minute walk and I wouldn't recommend it after the show if you're a betty walking alone.
