GarageBand

So Steve Jobs had announced GarageBand software in the Apple Keynote today, they are saying it is a pro-music tool for everyone.  So for you audio people out there, is this a load of crap, or is it supposed to be decent?

They also just announced the iPod mini, is the size of a business card, but 1/2" thick.  Comes in silver, gold, blue, pink, green. Shipping next month in the US for Mac or PC -- April worldwide. 4GB storage. $249

Pro Tools or Pro Music Tool.  Pro Tools was the industry standard for a while.

I am pretty sure they did not say pro tools, they said pro music tool.  And John Mayer and Sheryl Crow were there, I bet they use it.

GarageBand really isn't anything earth shattering.  There are two programs that are similar, ProTools and Digital Performer, that I'm aware of that have been around for a while.  I'm sure there are others.  Mac just bundled this into their computers and claimed it as their own.

They did make it more personable though.  I'll give them that.

4 GB?  Okay, that covers my Siouxsie, Replacements and R.E.M libraries.  But that's it.

I'll get pissed/envious when they announce the new, smaller 50 GB model for $499.  What I paid for my 20 GB just 15 months ago.

heard somewhere that the existing $299 ipod would be upped to 15gb, so the mini doesn't really turn me on.

Yep, they are getting rid of the 10gb ipod, replacing it with the 15gb model for the same price as the 10.

The real market for the mini is going to be all the people that go out and buy the 256mb mp3 players for $200. I don't know how anyone could buy one of those now.

Rio Cali 256 MB Sport MP3 Player $199

Creative Labs Muvo NX 256 MB MP3 Player $173.94

Samsung YP-55V 256 MB Digital Audio Player with FM Tuner $199.87

Digitalway MPIO FL100 512 MB Silver Titanium MP3 Player $$249.99

 Or:
Ipod Mini 4gb, $249.00, seems like a no brainer to me.
