my friend just received this email concerning the general Pearl Jam ticket sale from a couple of weeks ago and the predictable violations of, among other things, the Sherman Antitrust Act which ol' Ticketmaster pulled. The email outlines (a) how their computer "glitch" fucked people who didn't buy the CD along with their tickets and (b) makes no fucking sense with respect to how those were not fucked by electing to try to buy tickets without ordering the CD. all in all, part and parcel of ticketmaster's shabby, illegal, and unethical business practices.
and yeah, i got mine through tenclub, my friend was not so lucky b/c he had some glitch with his 10C account due to PJ's website which gets buckled every single pre-sale. anyway, suffice it to say, ticketmaster must have been contacted by the New Jersey Attorney General's office if they sent this email out.
Dear Pearl Jam Ticket Purchaser:
If you ordered tickets to see Pearl Jam's June 2006 performance at the
Continental Airlines Arena during the first few minutes of the on-sale,
due to a unique programming error, you may not have had the ability to
order tickets without ordering Pearl Jam's new self-titled studio
album.
Please be assured that the intent was to let you order those tickets
without having to order the album. Consequently, we are giving you an
opportunity to cancel that Pearl Jam album order and receive a $16.99
refund. In order to cancel that album order, please notify us by
replying to this email by April 7, 2006, and insert into the top line
of
that email the words "Please cancel my album order." Canceling your
album order will not cause your ticket order to be cancelled.
Please note that if you email your order cancellation request to a
different email address, or fail to notify us at the email address
specified above by April 7, 2006, your album order will not be
cancelled. We regret having to impose the April 7, 2006 deadline, but
hopefully you understand it is necessary in order for us to meet
fulfillment and shipping deadlines.
Additionally, please note that ticket buyers who purchased the CD had
access to the same tickets as those who did not purchase the CD and the
purchase of the CD had no effect on the seating locations. The full
range of best-available tickets for this event were offered to the
general public at the time when the event went on sale.
We look forward to serving you in the future.
Sincerely,
Ticketmaster Customer Service
