OK, so here's the deal: The question isn't: where will you be watching fireworks this Friday night, it's: Where are you going to go *afterwards*?
May we humbly suggest heading over to the Marx Cafe in Mt. Pleasant? Per the subject heading of this post, Brandon and I will be joined by our friends in one of the most critically admired bands around today---Darla recording artist Mahogany!
Hailing from Brooklyn, Mahogany has carved out quite a reputation for creative excellence with their two atmospheric-laden full lengths and impeccable compilation of singles and non-album tracks. Critical praise from Pitchforkmedia, Magnet and NME has helped catapult the band to an international spotlight (but more importantly, John Peel loved 'em!) and last year, they toured the UK with Bloc Party and even did a show in Lima, Peru.
We are truly feeling like lucky ducks at the moment. But it gets better...
Mahogany are playing this Thursday at the Black Cat with legendary noise merchants Lorelei! We highly, highly recommend this show. Mahogany is known for their fanastic and unusual live performances---the last time they were in DC (September '06 at the RnR Hotel), they played as an eight-piece ensemble complete with cellist!
These are the kind of events DC music fans will be talking about for ages...trust me, you won't want to say you missed out!
