John Vincent III Cut Off Early?
« on: October 12, 2024, 11:16:17 pm »
Went to the show tonight and John Vincent III wasn't able to finish his set list or come back for an encore. He started at 8pm and was promptly cut off by the stage crew at 9pm. What gives?

I've been to shows at 930 Club where they have a double header and they usually manage stage times fine and let them play a bit after 9pm. This just seemed like terrible time management on either the venue or artist side. Such a disappointing end to an otherwise great show. Please do better next time 930 Club.

Did he go on on time? I think there were  two shows scheduled tonight…he was scheduled to go on at 7:45 with doors opening for next show at 10 so he had to be off by 9 to allow for setting up for next show am guessing…

Bummer for sure. I feel for people that paid to see John Vincent

Yes, two shows tonight. He went on at 8pm, so 15 minutes late according to posted set times. The opener was promptly off at 715pm. Not sure if that time management falls on the artist or venue, but a disappointing end for sure. I've been to 930 Club and stayed for a late show after going to an early show and they've definitely let them play a bit later. Not sure if the strict 9pm is more recent, but you have to have some flexibility or make it clear with the artist, so they don't waste time back stage.

I have no idea if it was made clear to the artist but would assume it was…wouldn’t you? If opener was done at 7:15 taking 45 minutes before going on seems f’ed up

Sorry for your experience. It’s a bummer for sure

That does suck and not sure who is to blame?

9:30 out of most venues I’ve been to is typically very good with keeping set times, so this surprises me

I always think the early show gets shafted regardless

Definitely, I'd be curious on Seth's thoughts on this and how this can managed in the future either via the artist or venue. I'm with you, I've been to countless shows at IMP venues and this has never happened before hence my surprise, especially since the opener was done so early. Honestly, don't mind an early show when the set goes all the way through. As I get older, nothing better than heading home by like 930pm rather than the headliner just going on...

I've never seen them let the early show play 1 min later
I do think that the opener who didn't get on stage promptly at set time was on him for the short set

I also waffle on the set length times, of course I want 2 hour shows, but sometimes non-stop awesome 1 hour set is actually better
less fluff

Isn’t the most likely explanation that John Vincent messed up not going on as scheduled? Maybe he thought the 9 pm hook was flexible and it wasn’t. Maybe he thought there weren’t enough people in by 7:45 to go on. Maybe he was having dinner on U Street when he started chatting up a hot bird and forgot he had to be onstage. Maybe he was busy doing lines and didn’t want to stop. Who the fuck knows

Every time I have seen the early show they have been religious about going on and stopping on time.

Otherwise the crowd lining up to come in to the second show gets screwed over. Otherwise the second show will go on really late which will suck. Imagine you are already bemoaning fact headliner or whatever starts at midnight and then it gets pushed back even more!

When you have two shows in one night you have to keep to the times if you are the first act. And I will add that in some cases a band gets the early slot or I think would not be booked at 930 that night. I think this was true with Luna at their last 930 show. If they hadn’t played the early slot they would not have been booked. Being part of the two shows in one night sometimes I think makes the show possible when you crunch the numbers from the venue perspective.
