We all know it was the Lounge Lizards

But while “internetting” came across this interesting piece

Interesting. Was Joy Division very popular in America when they actually existed? What other size venues did they play?

Well it looks like it fell apart even before Curtis died....I wonder if IMP or it’s precursor negotiated with Gretton...from the website it looks like only a few dates where on the final itinerary (the one Hook hawked to make a few bucks)

But yeah...also would have made Joy Division first English act and not Furs to play 930

Joy Division would have been invited to the 30 year anniversary free show at the 930

The mind reels

To answer question I don’t think Joy Division was well known anywhere but Manchester

After all in 79 they were opening for Buzzcocks...the Jan 11 1980 Paradiso Amsterdam show would have been in the small room in front of at most 250!

But of course they had an ace up their sleeve....they were finetuning and recording Love Will Tear Us Apart!!
