Too late for a Sunday quiz so something for the weekday...

Any guesses on where this band is from? What their sound is?

I'll guess they're an Anti-Nowhere League cover band from Detroit.

I'll agree with that one.

Maybe it's Fico's band as well?

Close, but no cigar.  What, you cheated, but still didn't get it correct?

HISTORY
Summer 1991 - The idea of a band dedicated to Brazilian underground was born, first rehearsals late summer as three-piece: Taurus Exterminio - guitar & vocals, Deadbrain Antitese - drums, Roberto Necrofago - bass. The first rehearsals under the name "Crucificados".

Late 1991 - The first studio tape with eight songs. One of them "Destruicao morte e dor" released on a Finnish compilation 7"ep called "Headquarters" along with four other bands. The band is now called "Forca Macabra" by Taurus and the demo tape and word about it spreads like a wildfire. Necrofago is eliminated from the band.

Early 1992 - The first live performance, with Andreas Vodu (from Rytmihairio) on bass. Soon after the steady line-up for near ten years to come was found: Taurus on vocals, Antitese on drums, Jaba MX Chakal on bass, and Pedro Anthares on guitars.

August 1992 - Recordings for the second tape "Para agonia e morte" with Taurus laying down also the guitar tracks. Three songs from the 14-song cassette end up on German "I kill what I eat" compilation CD with several bands from all over the world.

Early 1993 - Gets nationwide recognition as the "hottest new act" in the underground.

August 1993 - The third studio tape. One of the most appreciated of Forca Macabra recordings that materialized one three split-ep´s consecutively w/Corpus Christi (1993), Homomilitia (1994) and Crocodileskink (1997). A strong emphasis on playing covers starts to gain ground in the band.

January 1994 - The first foreign tour reaching several East-european countries predicting the crust-explosion. Uutuus shared the same bill on every gig. An extremely raucous journey. July 1994 - Recordings for the first album "Nos tumulos abertos". This time one day probably wasn´t sufficient as the final recordings turned out shitty in general. However the tape is released on Genet Records almost a year later.

August 1994 - The first festival appearance: a one-off festival appearance in Belgium on the Vort´n´Vis 3-day international hardcore/punk gathering. Forca plays "one and half sets" as the first night the band is uncontrollably drunken and thus are given shorter showtime the 2nd night.

January 1995 - First time trying to reach the countryside hotspots of Finland. It was a success despite the snow and breeze blowing through the broken car door. Gets elected as the 2nd to the most popular band of the Finnish underground scene in a wide readers poll.

Spring 1996 - Touring again in the eastern Europe, this time with Selfish.

March 1997 - After writing an uniquely wide selection of material Forca goes to record a long tape that eventually was spread to several international compilation records, a split album with Brazilian legends Armagedom (not released until 1999) and the best-selling title: a black sleeved, self-titled seven song 7"ep that has now 5000 copies in circulation! Curiously the ep was released with no lyrics or even the song-titles in order to "protest" against the prevailing, seemingly political attitude and plain hypocrisy that had become nearly self-evident in the so-called political crust scene.

Spring 1997 - Five long weeks of touring around Europe. The Spanish/Portuguese and the French legs were cut off as the van seriously broke down in the ex-Yugoslavija. A grassroots-organized tour with a shoelace budget can´t always be the best possible way to do things -and Forca certainly had its ups and downs in the long series of gigs in squats and bars.

Late 1997 - Recording another set of new songs that also appear on the split album with Armagedom. Produced by Esquizo Neanderthal. A Finnish anti-fascist compilation 7"ep "Never again" was released with one rough live-song "Cansado" by Forca.

Early 1998 - The first contact with Javier and Armagedom!

June 1998 - Recording for the Tribute to Olho Seco, done with one or two takes in a sound check before a gig. Produced by Anton of Selfish.

Early 1999 - Javier of Armagedom comes to Finland. Besides the regular "tourist in a new city" -stuff Forca gets the honour to see the master play his guitar. The studio visit a little later breeds a couple of cover songs and five originals that were later released as a 7"ep by Overthrow Records in Japan. Taurus laid down the vocals later on as could not be in the recordings because of his tour with Wind of Pain. Shooting the first videoclip "Os quatro cavaleiros".

June 1999 - Another tour in the East-europe that has always welcomed Forca with open arms -and this time was no exception! Another one of the Forca cassette albums was released in Poland.

Late 1999 - Forca becomes five-piece! A mechnical monster called Abutre joins the 2nd guitar and marks a very clear take-off from the traditional d-beat based hardcore that had before created the core of the band´s song-writing.

March 2000 - Recording with Esquizo Neanderthal for a split with Ulster from Brazil. Some leftover songs later on various releases. The sound was perhaps the most metallic the band ever got?

Summer 2000 - A tour to Sweden with Selfish to support Olho Seco from Brazil. Great fun!

August 2000 - Under the surveillance of the label-manager Jack Control (of Mind Control, USA) the new album entitled "Caveira da forca" was recorded by Neanderthal again. The studio set consisted only of new, unheard songs again of a considerable variety. The last recordings with Chakal.

Spring 2001 - Forca Macabra "Jokohama moshashin" Tour in Japan was basically a great success despite some drunken haze. Chakal decides not to leave on the tour. A tour 7"flexi was pressed, and 1000 of those came also with the first pressing of the "Caveira" album. Top-notch photo footage on the Japanese Doll magazine!

September 2001 - The 10th anniversary gig of Forca Macabra takes place in Helsinki. Three sets with three different line-ups and setlists. A very special appearance by Roberto Necrofago. Abutre was filled in by Javier Aamonhammer (of Rytmihairio). This was also the last ever show with Chakal since he had to leave the band. Thanks & good luck! Speculations of a new member are soon muffled and the band is back to the four-piece formation now with Anthares on bass.

Late 2001 - A 60-minute-video "1991 - 2001 The dirty years" celebrating the band in unleashed worldwide, accompanied by a limited DVD that collects together a horrible 120 minutes of sheer aural butchery. Both however contain the first "official" videoclip 1999 of Forca: the thrash & mosh & playback a lot -miracle of one minute and seven seconds. Seeing is believing, or is it? Antitese and Chakal were replaced with stunts back then ;-)

Spring 2002 - Official repressing of the first album "Tumulos" with bonus tracks on Italian Agipunk and Angry Records. An alcoholocaust tour to Sweden with Kuolema and Viimeinen Kolonna, getting banned from there probably forever. It was appropriately titled "Finnish armageddon on tour"...

May 2002 - Tour in UK with The Rong Uns. Excellent thrashing and drinking! But beware as white cider kills! Recording a full album of Brazilian thrash metal and punk/hardcore cover songs only, was supposed to be out on HG Fact but got never released. Some of the songs will end up on compilations and others might be rerecorded for a proper treatment.

July 2002 - Finland´s biggest punk-festival announces Forca Macabra as one of the more attractive names. Javier comes all the way from Brazil to play the gig so Forca was again a five-piece for that night a lot of people will remember. The concert was simply awesome!

October 2002 - "Thrashcore destruidor" Tour in Brazil with 15 shows in several states and an appearance on the national television. The album "Caveira da forca" was released on CD in Brazil as well as a retrospective compilation/oddities CD called "Histeria - the Brazilian version" (as opposed to a Forca Macabra bootleg CD called "Histeria" that was released in Mexico some years prior!).

February 2003 - "Blow back to life" -tour with Selfish rsching the remote areas in Finland. It was another interesting one in the series of Forca´s extensive touring and gigging over the decade and more.

March 2003 - A tour to Spain and Portugal, finally, but all the Spanish dates got eliminated leaving Forca with only two gigs of brutal thrashing in Portugal with Subcaos but plenty of time to get loaded. On the plus side the band recorded in a studio five new songs for a split album with a Portuguese band that already split-up so the remains are to be seen...

Autumn 2003 - The band is very busy playing shows and supporting touring foreign bands. The shows now have often a mixed audience and the type of bands Forca plays with ranges even more than before.

November 2003 - A vast tour into the remote areas of Finland. "Morrer mais uma vez" -tour was done together with Rytmihairio and gained great response from all over!

December 2003 - Forca´s annual x-masslaughter show in Helsinki (this time called "Rush hour at the river Styx!") was another sold-out night and a great final for the year.

April 2004 - The first live apparance in months at the Vuoritalo festival in Helsinki
