The Brokedown signs with Merge
« on: August 29, 2006, 10:11:00 am »
So will they be the next White Whale which of course makes them the next Aracade Fire?  Only time will tell...

Los Angeles-based rock act the Brokedown has signed with Merge Records. The group will release its debut full-length for the label, "I Can't Go On, I'll Go On," in January.

The Brokedown's self-released EP, "The Dutchman's Gold," was centered on Dan Iead's mournful pedal steel guitar work, but bouncier songs such as "Down in the Valley" foretold the act's present, more rock'n'roll-oriented sound. According to singer/guitarist Ross Flournoy says, the forthcoming album is "a little bit more adventurous" than the EP.

Why does this sound so vaguely familiar...

 Changes

Perhaps you have noticed something a little bit different about our profile.  We are no longer the Brokedown, much as that pains me to say.  We are now The Broken West.  This will take some getting used to.  Here's the story, in an attempt to head off future explanations:  The Brokedowns threatened to sue us if we didn't change our name.  We're a real band, with a real record coming out, so we don't have a lot of time for frivolous lawsuits with wayward Nazi-youth punk bands.  So we changed it.  We hope you all can adjust, as we have (kind of).

I do believe that NKOTBie rocks harder than The Brokedowns who describe themselves thusly... "We are a soul-ripping punk rock band that plays Dashboard Confessional covers. Our influences include Avril Lavigne and New Found Glory."

Wow.  Thanks for the vote of confidence, Kosmo  :D

I've tried less and less to be a music snob in 2006, but the fact that theyr'e proud of their influences is mind-numbing to me.

Too bad. The Broken West doesn't quite have the same appeal to me as a band name for whatever reason. It sounds too country-western.

But, hey, looking forwarding to the new album when it's released.
